After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
It had only been a few days since she had left Yukigakure for the first (and last, presumably) time. Almost as soon as she had stepped onto the giant vulture, the little fox had regretted her decision to leave; upon learning that she would not be allowed to return to her beloved village, she had been quite nearly inconsolable, curling herself into a tiny ball and trying to shut out the world.
Now, she was trying to look on the bright side. Yeah, she'd been tricked and lied to and stolen from her home, but she was alive. The woman that had taken her, her Goushinjou-sama, hadn't hurt her. And she was a really good cook, and the pretty vulture Vivvian was nice and liked it when Shiori petted her. She wasn't comfortable here, but she could be reasonably certain she was safe; the woman had kidnapped her for something, and she doubted Goushinjou-sama would let anything happen to her before she got that something.
Really, she just had to avoid dwelling on things, and take everything one day at a time. Not thinking about the bad things that could happen in the future wouldn't stop them from happening, but at least she wouldn't be constantly sick and terrified out of her wits all the time.
And she wasn't alone; besides Goushinjou-sama and Vivvian, there was another boy that she had found. He was older than Shiori, and he had pretty green hair; she hadn't been able to talk to him yet because he'd been sleeping, but she'd taken care to make sure his room was nice and organized so he would have something good to wake up to.
Now, she was hovering in the kitchen, watching with wide eyes as her scary Goushinjou-sama baked some really yummy-smelling cookies, tail waving behind her. When the new boy approached, she turned to face him. "Good afternoon~" she chirped, grinning.
NOTES Even crazed criminals have their hobbies. Cookies are great, man.

The fox child had been all but nonexistent when Nayami first brought her into her home. She brought Shiori food, and the plate would be empty when it was retrieved, but that was the only sign of life she'd get from the girl. This morning, though, she'd asked for a bath, and afterward she'd followed Nayami around like a lost puppy. It didn't bother the woman too much; Shiori did as asked, and had prepared a room upstairs for Momaru-kun and was helping in the kitchen. The boy had missed breakfast, but it appeared he'd been lured out by the smell of her baking.
"Good morning Doc."
“Good morning, Momaru-kun.”
"You're pretty... you can bake a mean smelling cookie.... and to top it all off, you... are one of the most... experienced medic nins I've come across... I think I'm going to be ok..."
The medic frowned. The flattery was nice, but he seemed to be still a little incoherent. It was to be expected, though, the sleeping drugs she'd administered to him the night before were rather strong. She didn't need him up and wandering around unsupervised.
"Good afternoon~"
Nayami's eyes fell to the blonde fox who'd spoken. Right, the two hadn't properly met yet.
“Momaru-kun, this is Shiori-chan, Shiori, this is Momaru. You two will be housemates. The girl has prepared you a room upstairs, Momaru.”
