After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.

"Is there something on my face?"
The girl shook her head. A fleeting idea crossed her mind, and she held her hands out, spelling simple letters.
'Can you read sign language?'
When the blank expression he gave her indicated he had no idea what the heck she was doing, she gave a sigh, dropping her head a bit. God damn did she miss having a voice. Looking back to him, she grabbed her book from her bag and opened to a clean page.
"What had you coming out to Amegakure?"

When she started making hand signs he almost mistook them for those used with jutsu. He realized that they weren't like any of the seals he had seen before, and he highly doubted a girl her age could have learned an alternative set. He settled with the reasoning that she was making words and was quite fluent given her speed. Unfortunately he didn't know what any of it meant.
Reading her question on paper he had half of an answer formed. It would be difficult to keep the alibi air tight on such short notice, but he needed to answer anyway. "I was supposed to drop something off for someone in town. But then I was attacked and the parcel was taken from me..." He sighed, his expression turning somber, "I'll probably be fired now..." Hopefully that would keep her from asking too many questions because she would be trying not to upset him. "How about you, Seiya-chan? You must live here, so what's your family like?"

"I was supposed to drop something off for someone in town. But then I was attacked and the parcel was taken from me..." Oh, dear... "I'll probably be fired now..."
That sounded awful. Seiya would hate to be fired for something that was out of her control.
"How about you, Seiya-chan? You must live here, so what's your family like?"
This would be the first time in Seiya's short life that she'd be able to answer that question positively. She felt a little tingle, like she was proud of Kaede for merely existing, and scribbled onto the page.
"Until recently, I'd never had a family. But now I have my aniue. We adopted eachother and now I will never let him go. I wish I could introduce you to him, but he isn't in the village right now."
He watched expectantly as she scribbled excitedly. The man returned her grin with a pleasant smile as she turned the note to him. "That's too bad. I would have liked to meet him." He responded, taking a sip of his water.
"Unfortunately I'll be leaving soon, and I don't think I'll be coming back; at least for a while." The statement was a true one, he had no intention of coming back to this place. The rain sucked, and he hadn't managed to get anything productive done during his stay.

Oh? The rogue had only left a single hunter who was after him alive recently. It seemed the bitch had been saved. Though the news that this girl was that person's little sister was delightfully ironic, and he had to work hard to keep the smirk lurking within him from reaching his lips. "Maybe we could, that's a good idea."
"I can't stay Seiya-chan. I have to go back to work, or finding work... Even if I could and did, there's no guarantee he wont leave the area." He lectured, shaking his head. There was also the fact that he probably wouldn't be able to hold the henge indefinitely... "I don't think I'll have to worry about him anyway. Being attacked twice by the same person would be a cruel twist of fate, would it not?"

"I can't stay Seiya-chan. I have to go back to work, or finding work... Even if I could and did, there's no guarantee he wont leave the area."
She absently doodled a simple flower in the corner of the paper as she listened to him speak, waiting for her turn.
"I want to be strong so that I can stop others from being hurt, stop my aniue from getting hurt. People like you, who didn't do anything wrong. But I can't do anything for anyone. All I can do is cast illusions and trick people, and that's not enough to do anything for anyone."
The girl worked the eraser on the paper once he had read her words.
"I don't think I'll have to worry about him anyway. Being attacked twice by the same person would be a cruel twist of fate, would it not?"
Fate was a cruel creature, and an entity she did not ever wish to speak of. So she changed the subject.
Xero feigned a frown as he read her words. Illusions huh? Sounded a whole lot like genjutsu to him. Though, that was to be expected of a shinobi's sister. "Dont say that about yourself Seiya-chan. You helped me into the hospital right? If not for you I might have died." This wasn't entirely untrue, there was definitely a possibility.
He looked over her question the second time she turned the note over. Where would he be headed? Anywhere but here, that was for sure. "I need to return to Tsuchi no Kuni." He decided, "I'm not certain what I'll be doing after that..."

"Dont say that about yourself Seiya-chan. You helped me into the hospital right? If not for you I might have died."
The teen frowned, shaking her head. Anyone could have done that, it wasn't special. All she did was give him someone to lean on.
"I need to return to Tsuchi no Kuni. I'm not certain what I'll be doing after that..."
Seiya's viridian eyes lit up at “tsuchi no kuni.” That was where Kaede had gone! Perhaps she could meet with him there? Going on an adventure would be fun. As a genin, she wasn't really allowed to leave the village alone, especially seeing as she wasn't too competent on her own. It would be a surprise.
"Can I go with you? My aniue went up that way, and there is safety in numbers. I'm not supposed to leave the village alone because it could be dangerous, but if I'm with you it should be okay."
The man thought about the question. She wanted to go with him? Well, that certainly made all sorts of plans run through his head. It would certainly get under that hunter's skin if his little sister went missing, but there were also other things to consider. He was saved from answering immediately by the arrival of their food. "Let me think it over while we eat, okay? I'm not exactly the best at combat, and I barely escaped from that man with my life..." The male said nervously.
As he ate, Xero ran through several scenarios in his head. He could certainly teach her to be stronger, but the problem was in removing her loyalties. It would be a problem if she were to run off. If they were to run into her aniue, worst case scenario was he had a hostage. She wouldn't exactly be able to return here once she left, just as he would never be able to go back to Konoha. There was a lot to consider, but in the end he decided it would be to his advantage to take the girl.
Finishing the last of his octopus he let out a content sigh. Then he downed the rest of the glass of water next to him. The man took a deep breath in preparation to answer the waiting girl. "I guess... I could manage to take you along."

"Let me think it over while we eat, okay? I'm not exactly the best at combat, and I barely escaped from that man with my life..."
Seiya nodded, scratching one more thing on her notepad before setting it aside to eat the little slimy balls.
"I'm no good at combat, either. I can try and scare him with illusions, but we'd need to run away afterward."
The girl poked at the octopus balls with her skewer stick. They smelled odd. Oh well. Bringing one to her mouth, she swallowed it in nearly one bite. She was hungrier than she thought she was, it seemed, and a second ball followed soon after. She took a sip of her water, keeping an eye on the man across the table from herself. Hopefully he said yes... but despite her impatience, not a word was spoken until the meal had been finished.
"I guess... I could manage to take you along."
Seiya lit up like a light. She couldn't believe it! He said yes! She had some things she needed to grab, but... oh, it was so exciting. She reached across the table and grasped his hand with both of her own, smile telling him of the thanks she could not voice.
The facade responded to her thanks with an uncertain smile. The girl was overjoyed, but for how long? Without a doubt once he donned his mask again she would realize her mistake, but it would be too late for her then.
When the waiter came by to deliver their bill, Xero confronted him. After all, what money the girl had would soon be added to his resource pool. It may come in handy later. The rogue latched onto the man's arm with one hand, discreetly forming a set of hand seals under the table. "You wouldn't make a young lady pay now would you?" He closed his eyes with a charming smile. "You can make an exception, right?" He opened his eyes, looking directly into the waiter's.
The man flinched, reaching for his throat and taking a step back. He was clearly fear stricken, managing to stammer out a "Y-y-yeah s-sure." before turning and swiftly walking away. He looked back to the girl across from him. "Shall we be on our way, then?"

The genin folded her sketchbook, putting the pencil into the spine, so that she could put it away in her bag and exchange it for the wallet that lay at the bottom. However before she could give the pay to the waiter, Sano-san had grabbed the man's wrist.
"You wouldn't make a young lady pay now would you? You can make an exception, right?"
Seiya didn't get the chance to express that, since Sano-san didn't have money, she was more than happy to pay the bill, for the man reacted strangely immediately after. Her breath caught in her throat at the familiar display, and she looked back to Sano when addressed.
"Shall we be on our way, then?"
The girl stood from her chair a little too quickly, the legs noisily skidding on the floor with her rise. Glancing around the restaurant, her eyes fell on the bathroom. Pointing at the sign so Sano would know where she was going, she scurried to it, pushing the door closed behind her and leaning over the sink. The terror of seeing a sight that none other than oneself can see. That petrifying fear of helplessness and pain at an invisible enemy... Seiya was intimately familiar with the effects of aggressive genjutsu. That man knew genjutsu. He'd assaulted a waiter over petty money, gods knew what the poor man had seen. And she'd vouched to go with him.
The girl stared at her reflection in the mirror, gazing at the black quadri-pointed marking that was forever etched into her face. She wouldn't be the manipulated, she'd be the manipulator. If this man knew genjutsu, she would get him to teach it to her. Somehow. That place had taught her how to survive. She'd kept her sense of self, she'd kept her name close to her heart. She hadn't forgotten herself. She wouldn't forget herself now. Many shinobi went through more difficult endeavors, right?
Oh, what was she getting so worked up for? Blowing things out of proportion wouldn't get her anywhere. This wasn't that place, no one was trying to manipulate her or hurt her, and Sano-san seemed like a good fellow. Taking a moment to collect herself, she used the restroom and splashed water on her face before returning to the blonde waiting for her.
Seeing the girl stand up and run to the restroom in a panic, he recalled how she reacted when he had crouched next to her in the hospital. The man shrugged, maybe he had gone a little overboard, but it got them a free meal. He stepped outside of the restaurant, waiting for her under the overhang in front of the entrance.
When she came out, giving him the okay to leave he gave a kind smile. "Of course. But is everything alright? You looked a little spooked in there." He said, taking the pink parasol and holding it over them as they left the shelter of the building and moved onward towards her home.

"Of course. But is everything alright? You looked a little spooked in there."
Seiya nodded her head. No way she was going to let on she was bothered. When he took her parasol again, Seiya hesitantly grabbed on to his sleeve, pulling him into the direction she needed to go, towards the boarding house that the old Niwatoko couple and Jin lived at with her. Bringing him inside, she slipped out of her shoes, trotting towards her own room to grab a bag filled with supplies.
“Seiya? Where are you going? Who's the guy?”
The genin startled when Jin poked his head into her room. She'd been so preoccupied with gathering some belongings for a couple weeks of travel with a potentially scary stranger that she hadn't noticed him, and she looked over at the boy.
“Is everything okay?”
Jin had never actually snuck up on Seiya before, so it was a tad jarring that he'd startled her. Stuffing clothes and other needs into her tote, she slung it over her shoulder and swept up the younger boy in a huge hug. Until now, he'd been her only friend, and the closest person to her. He knew what she was thinking before she said it. Now she had Kaede, and she was going to go with Sano-san to make a big change to her life. She didn't want to be the same as always, she was going to be better. Jin's red eyes eyed her black tote.
“You're going somewhere, aren't you?”
A nod.
“Is this a mission?”
She shook her head.
“...will you come back?”
This time a smile, and she squeezed the boy again. Of course she was coming back. Shifting her grip on the bag, she passed by the boy to offer hugs to the elderly couple in the kitchen. Once ready, she met back up with Sano-san, pulling up her sketchbook.
"I have one more thing I need to do before we can leave."
Pulling the man outside with a goodbye to the other tenants, she all but dragged him to Kaede's home. Her ani might not be home, but he will be eventually. In case she missed him on her trip up north, she wanted to make sure he knew she was okay. Finding a clean page of her book, she wrote on the page:
"I've left the village with someone to train myself to be stronger. We'll be headed north towards Tsuchi no Kuni, so I hope to meet with you, but if I don't, I'll be fine. Don't come looking for me, and you better be here when I come back.
I love you, Aniue.
せいや"
Tearing the page out of her notebook, she folded it twice, pushing it underneath the jamb of his door. “Love” was not a term she had used yet on him, on anyone, really. Ever—at least, not within her memory. Saying it felt like a promise, even if it was only written on the paper. Taking a breath, she stepped back, looking up towards the blonde man with unwavering eyes.
