After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.

Heiki smiled a little, refraining from pointing out that “starving a little” didn't make sense. But in the end a dip would be relaxing.
“I suppose you're not wrong. I can run out and not get anything because my author forgot I have no money help you prepare what there is in the kitchen. There is also a small grocery store nearby that I saw, if the food here is not sufficient.”
Heiki could hear rats. He knew those would need addressed. Poison and traps were such a waste, in the faun's opinion, when the meat was edible. Sending the blonde away may provide a chance to catch some of these. Rodents were attracted to shiny things. Lure them out with glowing dolls and catch them, not so hard. By the time Okami returns the meat would be skinned and cut up into nuggets that the Iwa Nin wouldn't be able to identify, therefore, unable to complain. Hey, the wolf would be lucky that Heiki would cook it just for the sake of the human's weak stomach.
notes Yuu would slap the shit out of Okami if he heard that. He gets plenty of light, thank you. Heiki is going to feed Okami rat nuggets and Okami will find them tasty and not know. Vague as fuck, too. “Where did you find this? It's good.” “I found it here in the kitchen.”

It seemed that the woman had gone out for the day seeing as she hadn't responded to Okami's call nor could the young shinobi find her anywhere. Guess she didn't want to get in the way of work or went to run a few errands for supplies or tools to help with the repair job. Guess it was just the wolf and the goat...lizard left all alone here, guess the owner wouldn't mind if they helped themselves to some of the inn's food right? Okami would be sure to pay for it at the very least.
Heading back into the kitchen Okami was greeted with Heiki already preparing some meat for them to eat, it looked pretty delicious, that or the boy was just starting to get really hungry. "Looks good, one of your own original recipies?" he asked, never before seeing meat prepared like that before. Usually Okami would just toss a slab of steak on the grill and leave it at that. He knew how to cook he just wasn't a fancy chef with his cooking is all.

Heiki waited until he was sure the blonde had left the property before moving to the edge of the kitchen, hovering near the wall and walking as lightly as he could. There was a hole around here somewhere, he could see evidence... there it was. Behind the cabinet here. Crouching, Heiki balanced on his strong ankles, tail swaying in thought.
The rats needed to see the light for it to be effective, and the hole was small. But Heiki was also betting that the hole was dark inside. Since he knew where it was now, Heiki flipped the light off in the kitchen, the only light filtering in pink from Okami-san's improvised “skylight.” Moving over back to the hole, Heiki crouched again, performing handsigns and placing his fingers down at the entrance of the hole.
From his fingertips a dark seal extended outward, crawling up any hard surface it contacted until it reached full size. Once it completed, it activated, glowing a bright white-blue. Heiki willed the created dolls to be much smaller than normal, to appear almost like dancing physical balls of light to whatever rodent saw it.
After a few minutes, Heiki brought the illusory creatures out from the hole, entranced rodents following behind. Four of the creatures wandered out, and Heiki curled his tail, the bony spade blocking access to the hole. With a quick swipe, the faun grabbed the four rodents by their tails and dispelled the jutsu, loud squealing suddenly permeating the silence. It would end fast enough so Heiki was easily able to ignore the sound of their wailing.
Getting bitten was a painful yet necessary evil, and Heiki winced at the teeth sinking into his fingers with a curse as he dangled the creatures in front of his face, snapping the neck of each one individually before laying them down on the counter. Running water over his fingers in the sink, Heiki thought maybe there would be some bandages in the front. There often were. Going to look, he indeed found some and cleaned up the bite marks, grabbing some gloves to prepare the creatures for cooking.
Normally it didn't matter to the Kumo chuunin, but it would keep the bandages clean and keep the Iwa shinobi from asking too many questions. Finding some dishes and knives in the drawers and cabinets of the kitchen (they looked clean, thankfully), Heiki set up work skinning the fur from the rats, removing the heads, tails, and non-fleshy parts of the legs. Most of the organs removed as well, he only kept the heart, liver, and kidneys. Wasn't he thoughtful? Those were the most nutritious parts.
Carefully, Heiki cleaned the meat from the bones, disposing of all the unused parts in the trash, which he'd throw out before the blonde returned. Most people found scraps from skinning disgusting, Heiki had learned, so it would be best to do so. After a while, a bowl was filled with nuggets of meat from the rats and Heiki was bagging up the trash as the blonde returned.
"Looks good, one of your own original recipes?"
Heiki hummed, tying the trash and pulling it out of the can to take out when they got back to work.
“It's something like that. It is rather good, at least, in my opinion.”
But then again, Heiki would eat just about anything, so the stuff that was tastier counted as “good.” Heiki got some butter and some of the vegatables that were still good, digging up some soy and throwing all of the ingredients into a pan, heating it. Theoretically, Heiki knew more or less what ingredients make good food, but Heiki honestly couldn't say he was the best at cooking.
“... Why don't you watch this,” he said, cleverly passing the deed off to his partner. “I'll take out that trash and set up a place for us to eat.”

As Okami watched the goat man fill up a pan with more ingredients he couldn't help but lick his lips. Just the sight of it was already making him more hungry than he already was. He seriously needed to go out and buy himself a cookbook, he really needed to expand his stomach palette and badly, eating nothing but meat was only so healthy for a time being, if he didn't he'd probably be considered one of the Amikichi clan which he did find cool but liked having a nice body, helped turn a few heads now and again you know?
He turned his focused to the goat as he asked Okami to watch the food as he went to run a quick errand. "Sure thing. I'll just sit here, watching the food." Once again the boy licked his lips as he eyed everything, especially the meat. It looked so good yet so unfamiliar to him, who in the world made nuggets out of meat? Guess Heiki must had just thrown together whatever he could find in the kitchen and make a meal out of it. Speaking of finding things in the kitchen the wolf noticed a small bottle of spice sitting on the counter, surely a little bit of spice wouldn't hurt the food right? Besides it might help add a bit of flavor to this meal and the two deserved that much, so taking the bottle he sprinkled a bit of spice on the pan before quickly putting it away before Heiki showed up again.

Leaving the Iwa shinobi to cooking duties, Heiki grabbed the trash and headed outside, taking it to the trash can that was in front (he'd have to remember to put that out tonight). Turning back, the faun looked up to the sign, pink crystal chains holding it in place. Well, it was certainly attractive, if nothing else. Did the job.
Returning to the building, Heiki located the dining area, cleaning one of the small tables to eat at. When you really got down to it, the place wasn't in too bad of a condition... well, as long as you don't count the holes in the walls. The old lady probably couldn't keep it up anymore, and was too stubborn to ask for help. Less customers meant less income, which meant less hired help and less upkeep. From what he understood, no one had actually stayed here in a decade. People merely came to enjoy the springs here because it was relatively cheap, and moved on.
When he finished, Heiki returned to the kitchen, finding some clean plates in the cabinet and forks in a drawer. He could smell the meal, it was certainly appetizing.

As he worked on making sure the meat didn't over cook Okami could hear a bit of noise coming from the dining room, must have been Heiki setting it all up. Now he was getting more excited to eat since it couldn't be long now by the looks of the meat. A little push here, add a pinch more of spice, make sure each side if at least equally cooked good. It was probably his best work so far if Okami had any input about it. tty "Yeah its ready! Bringing it over right now!" The wolf shouted as he placed the food onto some plates and brought it over to the table. "You know you set up pretty nicely. Welp here's lunch." Placing the plates on the table Okami sat down and put some of the food on his plate and took a bite out of it. "Mmmmm~"
Miss allowede so..... Oh, and I'm mobile so nothing fancy... ~~~~~ It has been a long day. Lien has been hunting, fishing and collecting herbs from the. Day before and has been awake most of the night. Finally, she was able to sell all of the loot but she did keep. Some dry meat and fish with her. She needed to eat and didn't have much money. Buy she did earn enough to go visit the local hot spring and take a nice long bath.
It was not her first time visiting the place as she used to come to the town once or twice a year. The inn was in terrible condition but the baths were decent. The dirt and dust around never bothered the girl as she was used to living in the road. Having a warm bath once in a while was a blessing, usually she bathed and showered in rivers and lakes where the water was cold.
The ginger stopped at the entrance. The sign that was always hanging from one rusty chain was now held in place by two very pretty chains made out of clear pink crystal. Did the old inn keeper suddenly decide to rapair the place or did she get a sudden artistic touch? It was also possible that she just sold the place. It still made no sense. The crystals were beautiful but, the walls were still dirty and ugly. The sign was still worn out and needed to be repainted or switched. The old lady must have just lost her mimd or something.
Taking a step in with a piece or jerky ib her mouth the girl felt a familiar smell. Fried field rats with spices. She loved fielgd rats. If cooked right, their meat was as tasty as a rabit. Even better at times! This told her that the woman definatly has some screws loosen. No normal people will eat rats, unless they have no other thing to eat, at all. And even then some would rather go hungry.
Following the scent she entered the dining room. In front of one of tables, two men were seated. One blond with a starving look in his eyes wearing an Iwa headband. The other had horns and a kumo headband. Not a sight you would usually see. By sight, ahe would mean both the guy with horns and the fact that there were two shinobi, from two countried that don't get along well eating together fried rats. "Umm... Guys... I'm not sure you know but... You're eating fried rats...." she said not sure if she's doing them a favore or should have kept jer mouth shut. Anyway, if eather of them would not want to eat anymore, she qould gladly switch her chicken jerky and dry fish with him.
"Also, where's the old lady? I kinda want to ask her about all the crystals around and use the baths..." the girl added wondering. Asumimg none of the men would be a threat, she rwmoved jer hood and the scarf from her face.

“Thanks,” Heiki said, unsure of why he was being complimented for merely setting the table. He wouldn't complain. But at least Okami-san seemed to enjoy the meal, and that was satisfactory enough for Heiki to begin eating as well. He noticed a bit of an odd taste; a flavor in it that he himself didn't add. Pausing, the faun examined the meat more closely and noticed an herb he hadn't added. So the blonde had added his own touch. Not bad.
Only a few minutes into the meal did Heiki notice someone else enter the building. He could tell it was not the old woman. It didn't really concern him, though; it had been odd enough that no guests had passed through in their time cleaning, but at the same time it was better that way. No one to get in their way. Still, he did not expect this hooded... female, by the looks, to approach them.
"Umm... Guys... I'm not sure you know but... You're eating fried rats...."
“I know,” Heiki said in a rather bored tone. “I caught them.”
"Also, where's the old lady? I kinda want to ask her about all the crystals around and use the baths..."
“The old lady went out; she left us to clean up the place and make it more appealing to customers.”
With that, Heiki returned to his meal, tapping his toe against the wood floor.

One bite into the food and Okami could feel his mouth fill with such a wonderful taste. He really needed to ask the old lady where she got it from, boy oh boy would he like to make this again sometime, maybe even give some to Yuu, gods know that boy would probably starve to death if Okami didn't help sometimes. He was happily chewing away until another person came into the room, a customer at this time of day? Sure the lady must have closed the place up for repairs at the very least but from the appearance of this newcomer she probably didn't.
As he picked up another meat nugget with chopsticks he learned the ugly truth right before it touched his mouth. Rat, he was eating fried rat. He dropped his nugget and chopsticks all together as his face went pale and then red with anger as he stood up and slammed his hands on the table. "YOU WERE FEEDING ME RAT?! WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL, WHY WOULD YOU GIVE A PERSON RAT?! Oh god, I think I'm gonna be sick." the blonde said as his face went from red to green and he rushed back into the kitchen and from the sounds of it was busy hurling his lunch into a bucket.
"Caught them yourself? Impressive! They are not the easiest of catch, at least out in the fields.." the girls spoke. Well, now she was sure that the two young man were fine and the old lady Sid not loose her mind.
By the reaction of the blond, he apparently did not know and was horrified by the find. His bad. She took out the dry fish and chicken out of her bag and headed to the kitchen after the Iwa nin. "If you want, you can have my meat, but than I'm taking your rat." she apoke up from the entrance making sure both man heard her so that the horned guy won't get hurt.
"What ever you guys think, I find rat to be tastier that rabbit sometimes." whe added standing in her place with her dried food in her hand. Those at least looked like what they were. A dry trout and a wild chiken. Both are something she would gladly switch fir the freah food on the blonds plate.

“If you know how to lure them, it's not that—”
"YOU WERE FEEDING ME RAT?! WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL, WHY WOULD YOU GIVE A PERSON RAT?! Oh god, I think I'm gonna be sick."
Heiki flinched and stared blankly at the place where the blonde left and fled, the new female following after. 'Well, damn...' he thought, rubbing the back of his head. It wasn't as if he was poisoning the blonde; he even said it tasted good before he learned what it was. Humans and their mentality of automatically assuming some things are disgusting.
With a sigh, the summon finished his meal quickly, taking his plate to the kitchen and washing the dishes they used to make the meal. Humans were so difficult to please; Heiki was sure he was killing two birds with one stone, solving the meal problem and the vermin problem in one fell swoop. Oh well.

Still blowing a few final chunks out Okami didn't even hear the conversation those two were having nor did he even care. He was too busy trying to get all of that rat meat out of his gut before it digested and became one with his body. As he finished up he looked up so see the girl offer him a bag of leftovers from real meat, too bad just hearing about it made Okami throw up a little more. "No thanks. Think I lost my appetite, you can have mine no problem." he sickly said as he pushed his bucket away and looked up at Heiki with a glare as the goat man was cleaning up.
"You...I still want an answer about why you were feeding me rat! Were you trying to poison me or something?! Oh man...think more's coming up." he said weakly as he grabbed his bucket to vomit a little bit more, "I think I need to lie down." His face was starting to turn a slight green hue as he slouched over the smelly bucket, not really wanting to move anymore due to most of his guts being out of his body, so to speak.
Hearing the response of the blond about her being free to have his share of food she felt like she scored big time. But she also felt sorry for the poor guy. There were people who reacted much better than he did. Serching through her bag, she took out a small bottle with pills (made if harbs) and her flask of water.
"Those Will make you feel better. Whenever you truat me or not, I assume knowing they were made by a medic from your village. His name is Yuu. Apparently his stomach is stronger than yours." the no-longer-hooded female spoke while offering the medicine to the blond Iwa nin. Together with the medicine she also left him a whole dried fish. He might get hungry after he get better.
A soft pink light catching her attention she looked up. In the cieling there was an opening closed by a big pink crystal. "That is so pretty." she spoke, clearly impressed. "I wonder who made it."

Heiki didn't need to see it to feel the glare at his back. Dipping his head, he put extra care in getting every speck of grime off the plates, setting them up to dry and drying his hands on a towel.
"You...I still want an answer about why you were feeding me rat! Were you trying to poison me or something?! Oh man...think more's coming up."
Heiki winced.
“No, I was not. Actually, humans are capable of consuming raw rats, mice, and anything else that's small, let alone cooked. They're just about as diseased as anything else. House rodents are known for carrying fatal diseases but they are rarer then you'd think, and besides the place needed to get rid of them and it would have been a waste of—”
"I think I need to lie down."
Heiki didn't bother finishing his explanation. If it had not been safe, he wouldn't of tried to feed it to the damn guy. It didn't matter. These “higher beings,” as they liked to call themselves, were too difficult to please. Sometimes Heiki wasn't sure how his ancestors did it. But it didn't stop him from hoping he could find someone he'd enjoy making happy.
"That is so pretty." Heiki looked to the girl who spoke. "I wonder who made it."
“Akimichi there did,” Heiki said, jutting his thumb at the ill Iwa wolf, “It's nice, isn't it? Brightens the place up. Much better than what I would have done if I was alone.” He looked over at Okami-san, shifting his weight uncomfortably from one hoof to the other. “I'd ask if you wanted anything, Okami-san, but I believe your opinion of me has been made clear. Forgive me, I didn't realize my choice of meal would disagree with you so badly.”
At least be polite. That was one thing he was taught.

Being handed the pills that were made by his friend Yuu made the wolf boy sigh with relief. If it was made by Yuu then he knew that it was pretty good and worked really well, how this person got their hands on it was a bit curious, was Yuu secretly selling drugs and medicine as some back alley business? If he was then why wasn't he sharing with his friend and teammate?! "Thanks very much." he said as he took the pills and downed them with water.
As he was doing so the goat man soon explained that Okami was the one who made the pink crystals along the walls although he did call him one of those fat bastards from Khonoh, talk about rude. "I don't care if people can eat it or how rarely they can be filled with diseases, you still fed me rodents that you found running around here! Like you couldn't bothered to go get some prepared meat from a store or something?! I'm gonna go lie down on a bed or something..." he said as he walked out of the kitchen and turned around to face the both of them, "If you need me then...well don't need me alright?" And with that he was off to take a nap in one of the many rooms.
