After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
Yuu hummed and closed his eyes, thinking about the last time he'd used his suzumebachi seriously in a fight, and then the time when he flooded the field...
“It took a lot of chakra, but there was one time where I summoned a couple thousand when we had a lot of people against us. We won, thanks to that. Okami got himself stung, though, and ended up passing out with the enemy. They made me carry him until he woke up, like it was my fault he was trying to kill them.”
Yuu chuckled at her second question.
“Yeah, he's nice, if not a little weird. You'll find out when you meet him. I still need to take his coin back.”

Chi's purring cut off abruptly from her surprise. "A... a couple thousand?" she asked, awed. "That's a lot of bees." Stating the obvious, there, Chi. But really, compared to her (rather pathetic) five... holy crap that was a lot of freaking bees. "Can you teach me to summon that many?"
Nice, but a little weird... Weird how? A good kind of weird? She'd find out when she met him properly, she guessed, and for now she let her mind wander.
The tone of Chi's voice was extremely amusing to Yuu. He doubted she'd seen that many bees collectively in her life, by that response, let alone at one time. He'd look forward to teaching her, then. The expression on her face would probably be amazing.
“Of course I can teach you. That's why you came, isn't it? And to find family.”
Yuu shifted her out of his lap to set her beside him.
“Let's get to sleep. I can keep petting your tail if you want, if it will help you go to sleep better.”

"Yeah, that's right. I wanna get strong so I can protect what family I do have." she murmured, giving him a quick lick on the cheek with her sandpaper-textured tongue.
"Can you rub my ears too, please?" she inquired, settling down beside him. Chi was beginning to get sleepy again, finally - and hopefully, with Yuu's presence, she would be able to sleep through the night and not have any more nightmares.
“That's the best reason to get strong for, to protect people. That's why I became strong, so that I could help others.”
Yuu flinched a little bit when her face came in close out of nowhere, the surprisingly rough tongue running across his cheek. He blinked, unsure of whether to be embarrassed or excited that he learned a new cat thing about this person. It was the former option that won, and he rubbed his cheek.
"Can you rub my ears too, please?"
“Yeah, no problem.”
This wasn't quite as uncomfortable as it had been the last couple of nights. Was he already getting used to her? Either way, once she settled in, he began to stroke one of her ears with his free hand, wondering if he should eventually get a cat. She was rather pleasant to pet.

She purred, contented. "I'm gonna get strong enough that I can beat up anybody that calls you names," she declared, nodding. She didn't have anybody in Kusa that she was close enough to to feel a personal desire to protect them; despite having only known the medic for a few days, she was quite attached to him, so when thinking of protecting the people she cared about, he was forefront in her mind.
Chi leaned into his touch, ears twitching. Her purr rumbled steadily, soothing the both of them - quite a useful ability to have, to be honest. She made a quiet, sleepy trill, and curled up, ready to doze off again.
"I'm gonna get strong enough that I can beat up anybody that calls you names."
Yuu would be lying if he said that didn't make him smile.
“That would be nice, yeah.”
Over time, Yuu had gotten used to being called things and had actually become quite good at brushing off insults. A lot of his family had a lot to say and most of it hadn't been nice or encouraging. However when Chi made that sound—Yuu didn't even know how to describe it but it was the most adorable thing he was positive humans couldn't do—he hugged her, scratching the twitchy ears. Hopefully she didn't stay too long... it would suck to get used to this and then she had to go home or whatever would happen with the Kage. She was with him because she didn't have anyplace else and hadn't wanted to alone in a strange village.

She made a soft eep when he pulled her into a hug, ears flattening because she'd been startled. Then she relaxed hugging him back and making the trilling noise again. He seemed to like it, judging by his reaction.
Chi snuggled up to him and trilled right in his ear, then began grooming his face with her rough tongue. Every so often she'd pause and trill again, just because it made him happy. Eventually, she fell asleep in his lap, chin resting on his shoulder.
