After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
His expression softened. "Only if you're sure, hon. I don't want to make you uncomfortable." He waited a few moments to confirm that she hadn't changed her mind, pulled the hood of his jacket over his head, and beckoned for her to follow him.
After a short, jaunty walk, they arrived at Kaede's favorite place in the village: the little gazebo situated so that from inside of it, you could see the whole expanse of the training grounds. It was a quaint little place, and it was dry, which was why he liked hanging around it.
Sliding onto a bench, he gestured at the seat across from him. "Take a seat."

"Only if you're sure, hon. I don't want to make you uncomfortable."
Seiya shook her head. She had to work to get used to being near guys, and Kaede seemed safe enough. She'd be fine. She could handle herself. So, taking her parasol and sticking her sketchbook back in her bag, the genin followed after the male in the raincoat, keeping on-guard in case something went awry.
When they finally reached where he wanted to go, Seiya's eyes lit up. She didn't know this place was here. The gazebo was pretty, and she trotted underneath it before Kaede did, shaking the rain from her parasol and closing it. It was hard to find a dry outdoors place, so it was nice. She smiled at the technicolor male, sitting across from him when beckoned. Digging out her sketchbook, she flipped to a clean page and wrote in bigger letters so he could see.
"How did you find this place? I didn't know it was here."
Kaede chuckled as he recalled the story. "My sensei might have thrown me into it once, ehe," he explained, amused. "Broke my arm and got a concussion. And my team had to repair the damages. Heh, that was eight years ago... Funny how time flies, ain't it?" Not too many people would look back fondly on getting thrown into a gazebo and badly injured. Kaede wasn't most people, though.
And then he just had to ask the question he'd been pondering since she offered him a taiyaki. "Why don't you talk, hon?"

Seiya listened to the male speak, rather quizzically amused. How could someone remember a bad thing so fondly? Though if time goes by, sometimes bad things aren't all so bad. But sometimes, they never stop being bad. She nodded when he mentioned time flying. After a moment of silence, the older male spoke again.
"Why don't you talk, hon?"
Seiya felt a prickle of discomfort in her chest. It wasn't talking about it that bothered her, it was the memory that accompanied it happening. She broke eye contact with the male, wondering if she should tell the truth or not. He'd been okay so far, and she could still handle herself if it turned out to be not okay. Getting up, she moved to a bench closer to Kaede.
Facing him, she made a slitting motion with her hand across her throat, as one would make as a silent threat. But, her face was not indicative of a threat, and her hands dropped to the ribbon tied at the back of her neck. Pulling the ends apart, she hesitated. Removing this ribbon made her feel naked, but it was just another step, and she pulled it away from her neck, revealing a pitifully healed scar across her throat, scars from the poor stitching still visible.
'They took my voice from me,' she mouthed to him, barely breathing the sounds of the words. 'That's why I don't talk.'
At first, Kaede didn't know how to react. His pink eyes widened, and he covered his mouth with his hand. "You poor thing," he breathed eventually, shaking his head. "Honey, who did this to you?"
He had his own scars, to be sure. Some physical, concealed by his clothing, that he didn't make a habit of thinking about. Mostly mental. Those he could hide even better. Just plaster a smile on his face and pretend everything was alright. Even when it never, ever was.
Clearly, this girl had been abused. He, of all people, could certainly tell. And he was seized with the desire to find whoever had hurt Seiya and put their head through a brick wall. Sure, Kaede didn't know her too well, but he damn well knew she didn't fucking deserve it.
"Come here and let Kaede give you a hug, Seiya-chan."

"You poor thing. Honey, who did this to you?"
Seiya shook her head, trotting over to where she'd left her bag to retrieve the sketchbook. Scratching words onto it, she held the page up for him to see.
“I don't know,” it read. “When I was really little they took me. I never learned who they were. But, I'd like to.”
Placing the book down on the bench beside her, the genin retrieved the black ribbon from her beside her, re-tying it around her neck to obscure the scar on her throat, reaching for the book once more.
"Come here and let Kaede give you a hug, Seiya-chan."
She froze, glancing at the male from the corner of her big eyes. The very thought of it made her uncomfortable. Her gaze slipped to the rain outside of the gazebo. There was plenty of water. It would be okay. It would be okay... Taking a breath, the girl somewhat forcefully dived at him, arms going around his neck. This was a child who was untrained in the art of physical affection—nothing about her past experience was affectionate—and she knew that hugs went something like this. But, now that she was here, the girl in pink really, really did not want to let go.
Kaede nodded, frowning. It was good for those people, whoever they were, that Seiya didn't really know who they were, because the tokujo would absolutely go make them pay for what they did, even if he didn't know the specifics. He knew enough from her behavior thus far to know that he wanted to smash some heads.
His face lit up when she dive bombed him, one arm going around her back, the other staying in place at his side. He didn't want her to feel like he was trapping her, so he didn't hug her too tightly; and he made a point of avoiding the back of her head, her lower back - places that he still didn't like to be touched - just in case she would have the same sort of reaction he did. Kaede really didn't want to scare off this little girl.
He patted her back gently. "It's alright, sweetheart. Everything's alright now."

Seiya stiffened, arms tightening, when she felt the arm go around her back. But it was only one. He wasn't constraining her. He wasn't touching anyplace uncomfortable. This was okay. Today, Seiya learned something. Hugs were warm, not scary. This was okay. His words to her were kind. Seiya didn't know how she felt about this. But already she knew that this was someone she'd like to see again, even if he was a lot older than her. Of course, now she was kind of scared to let go. But she was also kind of scare to keep holding on. Was that weird? Now she just kind of wanted to bolt. Entirely lost on what to do, she squeezed Kade tighter, making a huffing sound that would have been a squeak.
Kaede wasn't quite sure what to do now. Seiya seemed both afraid to keep holding on and afraid to let go, oddly enough - although he could understand that, seeing as this was his second hug in the past nine years. He settled for gently ruffling her hair and smiling, hoping he was providing her with some sort of comfort.
"Hey, Seiya..." he spoke hesitantly. "If you ever... need to talk about what happened to you... You can confide in me." He paused, unsure if he should have offered. But ever since he'd spoken with Yuu he had felt a little lighter, like there had been a weight lifted off of him. "It helps. Trust me."

Seiya's shoulders raised when she felt the hand on her head ruffling her hair.
"Hey, Seiya..."
She stared intently at the rain outside the gazebo behind the boy.
"If you ever... need to talk about what happened to you... You can confide in me."
Talk, he says. Grabbing the arm that was over her head, Seiya pulled away from the hug, sitting and sliding her fingers to hold the larger hand with both of hers. Her story was one that she felt should never be shared. It was not for shame—Seiya knew what happened to her was not her fault—but more that it was a story that people shouldn't know about. Most people were better off not knowing what kind of monsters existed. But it might help. Keeping the grip on his hand, Seiya raised another to Kaede's forehead, touching it with her palm. This wasn't necessary but it helped weird people out less.
“If you want to know,” a young voice rang in Kaede's mind, “I can tell you.”
Kaede didn't question what she was doing, just squeezed her hand gently as she looked at him. In his mind, he heard a projection of what he assumed her voice had sounded like, when she was able to speak. He had to admit that he was impressed by her ability to project so easily - if she still wanted anything to do with him after this encounter, perhaps he would ask her to teach him how. It was a useful skill to have.
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, sweetie," he assured her. "But I do want to know..." If what happened to you is anything like what happened to me.

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, sweetie." She looked up at the male's rose eyes. "But I do want to know..."
Seiya shook her head. No, she'd already decided she would tell him. She lowered her hand, maintaining eye contact. Taking a breath, she considered how much she should really let him know. Part of her wanted to splurge all of her memories onto him, just to have someone to share it with, but at the same time, he was a stranger she'd met maybe about fifteen minutes ago. She didn't need to give him such details. But still...
“When I was very little, I remember being at an orphanage. But then, the orphanage got attacked by bad people. They killed a lot of our teachers and the older kids. There had been a lot of blood. They took the younger kids like me, four, five, and six year olds.” She watched his expression as she spoke. “I was five. They took us to a place, it was underground. I remember dripping water, it was probably a rain sewer.”
Seiya found that she wanted to tell this male more and more. She hadn't even told Jin some of these things she was going to tell Kaede. Maybe it was because Kaede was an adult and may understand things better. She then tapped her right cheek, just below the eye, where the quadra-pointed star was tattooed.
“They came around and put these marks on some of us. The ones who didn't get the marks were killed, cut all open with kunai. There had been so much blood...” She took a break, dredging up the memories, weeding through which ones she didn't want to share. “They taught us stuff. How to fight, how to obey, how to be pretty, depending on who the kid was. I was taught how to obey those older than me and be appealing. They...” she bit her lip. “They started raping us after I was eight. I used to have long hair, and it would get pulled. They were teaching us things that were were expected to go out and do with other people to earn them money. If anyone fought back...” she rubbed her throat idly, “They would hurt us. I never found out who they were, because big strong shinobi came and took them out, saving the few of us who survived.”
She looked at him expectantly, waiting what his reaction would be.
Kaede carefully schooled his face into a neutral expression, listening intently as she described what had happened. Throughout about half of it, he was able to keep his expression controlled, but when she spoke of the rape of children and the expectation that they would teach Seiya how to sell her body on the streets... His eyes flashed with anger, and he bristled. In a lot of ways, what had happened to this poor girl was worse than what had been done to him.
But she had been captured by strangers, at least, and not betrayed by her own family. Not that she had ever had one, it seemed.
"People like that make me sick," he growled, eyes narrowing, fists clenching. However, he realized abruptly, that an overly aggressive response might scare her, and took a few deep breaths to calm himself. "Sorry. I just.. Anyone that preys on a child is sick and twisted and deserves a slow and painful death."
Kaede wanted to return her confidence with his own and tell her what he'd gone through, but he was still hesitant. "I have a story too. Kind of like yours. Kind of different," he spoke quietly, biting his lip. If she wanted to know, he would tell her.

Seiya took a breath. Time's up. The projected link between herself and the male diminished; she still had trouble keeping it up for extended lengths of time, but she was working on that. Kinda.
"People like that make me sick."
Seiya drew back at the aggressive tone. She knew it wasn't directed at her but old scars still remained.
"Sorry. I just.. Anyone that preys on a child is sick and twisted and deserves a slow and painful death."
He was right; she knew that now. It had taken her a long time to understand what was normal and what wasn't. She had just come out knowing she didn't like anything she'd survived through, and didn't want to do any of it. She just kind of thought it was expected of her and wouldn't leave her teacher's home for months to avoid those sorts of interactions.
"I have a story too. Kind of like yours. Kind of different."
Seiya tilted her head at the technicolor male, interested. She'd expected him to say something bad to her about all of this, but his response was unexpected. Reaching towards the bench the genin grabbed her book, writing her words in the corner of the page.
Kaede nodded. He'd figured that she would want to hear it. That didn't stop his heart from racing and his hands from shaking. Only one other person knew what had happened to him... That fear that they would find out he told and punish him still lingered within him despite the elapsing of time.
"I wasn't born here in Ame. I'm part of an old, prestigious clan called the Uchiha, who live in Konohagakure. My parents were important members of the clan." He paused, considering how to phrase the next bit - he wasn't just going to up and tell her that he was born female. That was something he flat out did not feel comfortable sharing. "They were... dissatisfied with me. I wasn't fit to be their heir, they said. My father would hit me, burn me, do anything he came up with to hurt me."
He was lost in thought for a few long moments, then he looked into Seiya's eyes, his own clouded with hurt. "I was ten when he started... raping me. Eventually he decided to pass around his worthless whore child to the rest of the Uchiha council. One day, when I was thirteen, he almost killed me. So that night, I faked my suicide and ran away. I ended up here... Started over. Tried to forget." Kaede smiled bitterly.
"But there are some things you can never forget."
