After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.

"I wasn't born here in Ame. I'm part of an old, prestigious clan called the Uchiha, who live in Konohagakure. My parents were important members of the clan."
Seiya's emerald eyes grew wide. The Uchiha? She'd heard of them. And not nice things. But Kaede had been nice. Noticing his shaking hands, she took them in her own for support. He looked really uncomfortable.
"They were... dissatisfied with me. I wasn't fit to be their heir, they said. My father would hit me, burn me, do anything he came up with to hurt me."
The genin's lips parted slightly in surprise. She'd experienced that sort of thing herself. As he contined to talk, Seiya stood slightly, feelings beginning to well up inside her chest. It was one thing knowing that sort of thing happened to her, but meeting someone else, someone who had gone through similar experiences without being there with her, reminded her that there were even more monsters in the world.
"But there are some things you can never forget."
It was the bitter smile and that last statement that did her in, and tears spilled free from Seiya's eyes. It wasn't out of pity or sympathy, but the pure empathy of someone who knows what it's like. But, Seiya's heart hurt for the male more. She'd never had a family to betray her. But Kaede's family, the people he was supposed to be safe had betrayed him. Seiya couldn't even begin to imagine what that felt like, and it made her heart hurt to try. She hugged him again, this time more gentle, arms going under his. She rest her chin on his shoulder.
You just need a new family, she barely breathed into his ear. Forever frozen vocal chords didn't change her ability to breathe. I've always wanted a family. Can I call you “big brother”?
He squeezed her hands gently, the warmth of another person encouraging him to continue his story. When he'd finished, he was silent, and looked down at the wooden floor beneath them. He'd left out some of the details, and he was sure she had too. Nonetheless, they had both learned that there were more of the monsters they feared in this world than they had thought. And that was terrifying.
He looked up, tears welling in the corners of his eyes. When he noticed that Seiya was crying, they fell, spilling from his eyes like rain. Kaede's arms automatically went around the girl as she hugged him again, pulling her close. The man strained to hear her whisper, and when he realized what she'd asked, a strangled sob was torn from his throat. He held her close, whispering, "Yes, you can call me 'big brother'... imouto-chan."
He had always wanted to be an older sibling - and he was, twice over now, technically. He had a blood brother back in Konoha that barely knew he had ever existed, that he hadn't gotten to watch grow up, hadn't been able to protect, would never get to teach or know anything about. That was the only regret he had about leaving his place of birth. He'd never had the chance to be someone's big brother.
Until now. And he was damn well going to be the best big brother a girl could ever have.

At the sound of the older male's sob, the girl's breath hitched in her throat. Just when she thought she could control herself, she silently cried along with him, not even caring about being squeezed. She didn't find Kaede threatening in the least anymore.
"Yes, you can call me 'big brother'... imouto-chan."
She squeezed tighter, unable to do anything more to respond outside of sniffling. She had an onii-chan. Aniki... aniue. That's what she'd call him. Aniue. Holding Kaede close, she patted his hair. He seemed to be more upset than she did, and she would do her best to comfort him.
Kaede pulled Seiya into his lap, holding her close - the closest he'd been to another person in nine years - and sobbed into her tea-colored hair. It was completely undignified and unfitting for a jounin, but he didn't give a good goddamn. He'd finally found somebody he could connect to, and he would never let her go.
Eventually, he leaned back and wiped the tears from his eyes with the striped arm warmers he wore. "So, imouto-chan..." He shifted the girl from his lap onto the picnic table. "Want to tell me more about yourself? Some, uh, happier stuff?"

Seiya gasped in surprised when she was pulled into the male's lap, but didn't resist him, continuing to stroke his hair as he cried. It seemed he needed this relief a lot more than she did, but she couldn't stop her tears either. It was a good long while before the male calmed down, and she let go when he pulled away, watching the puffy pink eyes.
"So, imouto-chan..." Seiya tilted her head, taking her seat on the bench. "Want to tell me more about yourself? Some, uh, happier stuff?"
Seiya tapped her lip in thought, exhaling a long breath. She'd always wanted to be a singer, but she couldn't exactly say that was a “happy” thing. She pulled up her sketchbook.
"My name is Kurosaki Seiya. I'm a genin on team 1. Our sensei has been sick the last two weeks so my team and I have been training together." The girl tapped her pencil on the paper. "My favorite food is taiyaki, and I like to dance."
Kaede took in the information, nodding. He'd thought she was a genin - she didn't look anywhere near old enough to be anything else - but the confirmation was nice.
He then decided, despite the girl not having asked, to give her a little more information about himself. "I'm Uchiha Kaede. I'm a tokubetsu jounin and a member of the ANBU. Our squad is one of the best in Ame." At this, he actually smiled, a stark contrast to his puffy eyes and the tear tracks that still lingered on his cheeks. "I like all kinds of sweets and I never go anywhere without candy." He rustled in his pockets for a moment and pulled out a tea-flavored hard candy, offering it to her.
"I like reading and making music. I can't dance or cook to save my life. I kind of have a typical bachelor pad going on." He'd been about to invite her over, but stopped short when he realized how it might sound. Kaede would save that invitation for some other time, if they got to know each other better.

"I'm Uchiha Kaede. I'm a tokubetsu jounin and a member of the ANBU. Our squad is one of the best in Ame."
Uchiha... Kaede didn't seem like one of the scary Uchiha the girl had heard stories about. Perhaps it was all a misconception? Or maybe Kaede was just different from the other ones. But when he smiled at her, the genin responded in kind; smiles were contagious.
"I like all kinds of sweets and I never go anywhere without candy."
Seiya hadn't been expecting candy from him, and gleefully accepted it. The tea flavor was unusual, but tasty, and she pushed the candy into her cheek.
"I like reading and making music. I can't dance or cook to save my life. I kind of have a typical bachelor pad going on."
She perked up at hearing that he made music. That made a common interest. She could also kind of cook, and how hungry the jounin had been when they'd met led her to believe someone needed to feed this guy. Gripping the pencil in her hand, Seiya wrote on her pad, turning it for the Uchiha to see.
"Well, I have some classical piano training, because y'know - fancy old sticks-up-their-asses clan, they want their children to have all these skills that don't impress anyone." Kaede rolled his eyes and snorted, crossing his arms over his chest. "What I really love, though, is playing the guitar. Acoustic, of course. And I try to sing. It sounds okay... sometimes." He could hold a tune, at least.
"If you want, I can play for you sometime. I guess you like music too, right?" The man grinned at her.

Kaede found it a little sad that the girl who had wanted to be a singer had had her voice taken away from her."I can definitely play and sing for you, sweetie."
He had to be careful about where he took his guitar because it wasn't exactly good for it to get rained on all the time. Usually, he just played it for himself at home, and sang when he was feeling down. Music always lifted his spirits.

"I can definitely play and sing for you, sweetie."
The girl bounced in her seat. That would be so fun. Everyone at the boarding house was completely tone deaf. Remembering her bag of taiyaki, which were getting cold, the girl pulled it closer, withdrawing another one to give to the male and one to eat herself. She'd just have to buy more later. After a moment more, Seiya eyed the male with one green eye. ANBU had all sorts of special training, right? She didn't really know a whole lot abot ANBU, but she held the pastry between her teeth, putting her hands together to sign, not jutsu, but words.
'Do you know sign language?'
If he did, that would make communication a bit more conveniant. If not, she was just flapping her fingers to a confused shinobi.
Her excitement was kind of adorable. Kaede never thought he'd make somebody that happy just by promising to sing them a song, but hey, he was glad he could.
He accepted the third taiyaki and munched on it, getting crumbs all over his face - which he didn't realize until a few minutes after, when he covered his mouth to yawn. The tokujo promptly turned red and rid his face of the crumbs.
'I sure do, sweetie.' So those lessons in signing he'd gotten in ANBU were going to be useful for something else after all. Sweet.

Seiya was a step away from strangling the boy with her arms when he signed back at her, absolutely thrilled. She didn't meed a lot of people who knew how to sign anything more than papers or jutsu. She hardly knew this guy but felt bonded to him. Perhaps it was because they shared a similar past. Maybe it was because he looked like a starving drowned kitten when she crossed him. Whatever the reason, he wasn't scary like other men she'd met. That alone made him pretty awesome.
'What were you planning on doing today, before I met you?'
'Until I figured out I didn't have my wallet, I was just gonna buy some food, go home and eat it, and then go back to bed so I'd maybe get rid of this cold. Sneezing all the time isn't fun.'
It wasn't like he had anything else to do; being friendless, he didn't have anybody to hang out with, and his squad was on a mandatory break after performing a bunch of missions, so he was pretty much just planning on chilling by himself at home and eating out so he didn't have to try to cook.
'What were you going to do?'
