After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.

Kaede pulled Seiya into his lap to improve the angle of snuggling, clinging tightly to her as if his life depended on it. And honestly? It kind of did. Heh. That made two life debts he owed the little girl, didn't it? "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry," he murmured into her hair, still sobbing softly.
He eventually calmed himself, taking deep breaths and rocking the girl in his arms. "I hate myself," he admitted, in a whisper so quiet he could barely hear his own words. That was the only explanation he could give for the blood seeping through Seiya's fingers from his wounded wrist, and for the scent of alcohol that hung strongly around him.
He froze and gave her a hurt, wide-eyed stare when she 'spoke.' "Aneue? W-what happened to aniue, Seiya?"
Post by Kurosaki Seiya on Nov 16, 2014 1:03:23 GMT
Seiya's heart raced when the larger female pulled her down and clutched onto her. So much contact, so close, she felt confined. But, she could endure it. Kaede needed her. Warm crimson seeped through her fingers as she gripped the one wrist, her other arm clutching the woman and listening to her apologies in silence. There wasn't much she could say.
"I hate myself."
Seiya let out a steady breath, resting her head on Kaede's chest, listening to the irregular fast-paced heartbeat. She knew that feeling all too well. Her mentor had been a good person to Seiya. The saving grace. Perhaps she should offer that kindness to Kaede, and try to be her saving grace.
"Aneue? W-what happened to aniue, Seiya?"
The girl's eye's opened and stared blankly outward. Aneue was for sister, and aniue was for brother. The more she thought about it, the more confused she got. With wide, innocent eyes, Seiya looked up to Kaede's face, voice ringing in the Uchiha's mind.

Seiya's question was innocent. Of course she didn't know. Didn't understand. But he still flinched when she asked if he was a girl. "No! N-no, I'm not." Only the presence of the girl on his lap kept him from huddling up and burying his face in his hands. How the hell was he supposed to explain this to her? "I'm a guy. I just - I don't exactly have the body of one. I wasn't.. born with it."
He fell silent, trying to get his thoughts arranged. Kaede didn't want Seiya to hate him... But he couldn't just lie to her. Not now. "I was born a girl. But as I grew up, I felt less and less comfortable with being a woman. It didn't feel right to me. So I went with what my heart said. I cut my hair and bought a binder and men's clothes. I am a man, Seiya. Just not the traditional kind. I chose to leave my body the way it was instead of getting surgery to make me more, I guess, 'authentically' male."
The jounin began to cry again. "I just want to be myself."

When Kaede flinched, Seiya didn't know what it was but she knew she'd done something wrong immediately.
"No! N-no, I'm not." Her confusion increased, and she blinked at him. "I'm a guy. I just - I don't exactly have the body of one. I wasn't.. born with it."
The more Kaede spoke, the more confused Sieya became. “She” wanted to be called a “he.” Even if Seiya couldn't grasp what Kaede was trying to explain to her, she could respect that. If anything, she felt absolutely wretched for doing it. She'd hurt her aniue. However, the more Kaede explained how much of a man and not a woman he was, the more Seiya became aware that she was sitting in his lap in a guy's lap an even-if-he-didn't-look-like-a-guy-Kaede-said-he-was-a-guy's lap. Close, too close. The panic was short-lived, however, when the male began crying again, which made the revelation at the anxiety make her feel more wretched still.
"I just want to be myself."
The girl held onto the older male. She felt like he was in a place she couldn't reach. But from what she had gathered from his time in the hospital, Kaede had no one to climb the tower where he kept himself locked up. She needed to find the key to the gate and do it herself. Having someone to look out for, to care for, and to actually be able to do something about gave Seiya a feeling she'd never had before. What it was, she didn't know, but it felt like she'd found something missing.
But, the blood seeping through her fingers was starting to drip down her arm and onto the floor. She couldn't coddle him forever, she needed to clean this wound. Wriggling out of the Uchiha's lap, Seiya stood, snatching the other wrist and attempting to pull Kaede to his feet. She didn't know where his bathroom was but she'd seen the kitchen and would have him put his arm under running water while she located bandages

Kaede offered her a small smile when she called him aniue again, letting her pull him to his feet and lead him into the kitchen. She was really determined to help him, wasn't she? He had never had that person, the one that would reach into his darkness and light it up, if only for a while.
"Bathroom's past the kitchen, first door on the left. The cupboard in there has bandages and other medical supplies," he informed her, obediently placing his wrist under the running water until she returned. Just having her here brightened his mood a bit.

Seiya's fingers rolled over the cut in Kaede's arm with care, washing away the blood. It continued to leak through the water, which worried her. He'd nicked the vein, which was what he'd been trying to do. Well, no, he was trying to cut through it, and a simple nick was better than that option. She took Kaede's other fingers in her hand, replacing the pressure on his cut with his own hand and clutching it so he knew what she wanted him to do.
"Bathroom's past the kitchen, first door on the left. The cupboard in there has bandages and other medical supplies."
Thank god he knew what she'd be doing next. Shaking the water from her hands, she wiped them on her skirt, smearing Kaede's blood on the pink fabric for she hadn't been concerned in washing it off of her own hands. The girl wandered where the directions took her, trotting into the room once the door was spotted. Seiya pulled up her skirt like a basket, fisting the cloth so it could be held together with her left hand, and pulled open the cabinet. Gauze, bandages, tape... antibiotic cream... peroxide... she grabbed the soap dispenser off of the sink as well and a pair of scissors. That should do it, and if it didn't, she knew where to come back to.
Collecting all of the items in her skirt-turned-basket, she pulled it up, the black cuffs of her skin-tight shorts peeking out from under the dress. She was pleased to find the technicolor male in place at the kitchen sink where she'd left him, keeping pressure over the cut. Going to the counter beside him, Seiya stood on her toes and raised the skirt until she could dump the contents onto the counter, dropping the cloth and swiping the soap to clean it. First aid was one thing she was pretty good at, she'd had to be to survive, and she swatted away his hand to clean the wound, squeezing it dry with a dish towel. Once the medicine was applied and the wrist bandaged, she inspected it, his arm held up in front of her, then she let go, hands at the ready as if expecting his arm to fall apart from weak glue. When it was clear it was okay, she sighed in relief.
It was then that the genin allowed herself to be angry at him. Raising her hand, Seiya slapped Kaede across the face.

It was easier to go along with it than argue with her. She might not have been able to actually talk, but she could chew him out without speaking a word. And that was far too troublesome to bother with right now. Kaede still didn't think he wanted to live, but he could go a little longer if Seiya was here with him. Probably.
She sure fixed him up well. Kaede could appreciate that, he supposed, but the source of her first aid knowledge still made him want to smash in some heads. He wished that she had never had to learn those skills, not the way she did...
The man was abruptly torn from his thoughts when his precious imouto-chan straight up smacked him. Hand covering his cheek, he stared down at her, mouth agape. Well. Someone was pissed. And Kaede wasn't even going to try to tell her she was wrong for being angry. She wasn't.
"Do you want some ice cream, Seiya? There's a carton in the freezer," he offered weakly, knowing that his distraction wouldn't work but still hoping that ice cream would pacify her a little bit. She couldn't smack him with a bowl of dessert in her hands.
Post by Kurosaki Seiya on Nov 19, 2014 12:31:40 GMT
Ice cream? Was he trying to placate her with ice cream?! The hell did she think she was, seven? Seiya had half a mind to hit him a second time. However, she chose not to. He was trying to change the subject, distract her. So, the genin humored him, but the irritation she was brimming with sapped any humor from her response. Without taking her emerald eyes off of the man's pink ones, she backed towards his fridge, yanking open the door. She spared a glance to the contents to locate the carton and no more, grabbing it and while she didn't slam it, it still impacted with the counter significantly enough to rattle the things that sat atop the surface. Closing the freezer, the girl gestured to the frozen treat as if to say, “Here's your ice cream. Do something with it.” Like hell she knew where his scoops and bowls and spoons were, anyway.
'I thought you were going to be my family, Kaede?' She signed to him, spelling out the letters of his name instead of using the sign for “brother.” 'How am I supposed to look up to someone like that? When I finally had someone to look up to, you were going to take him away from me? You don't get to do that.'
Seiya approached approached the tokujo again, raising her hand to hit him again. However, instead of smacking him, her hand landed gently on the cheek she struck and lingered for a moment before dropping to continue signing.
'If I need to protect you from yourself, I will. I'm not willing to let go of having a big brother yet. Don't hide from me again,' she signed, 'Just because I'm younger than you doesn't mean I can't understand.' It was then she tore the ribbon bracelets from her left wrist and held up her arm for him to see. Her ribbons and lace hid lots of stories, and the raised hatchmarked lines she revealed only told another one. Putting the wristband into her mouth, she continued “speaking.” 'I understand more than you think I do.'
Seiya's expression was unwavering and solid, daring the male to give her one good reason as to why hiding in that closet was a better idea than staying and talking to her.
'Don't make me promises that you don't intend to keep.'
n o t e s ; ; That last line is in reference to him saying he'll answer her questions later about being a girl and all that and whatever else they discussed.

All he had done was make her even angrier. He supposed that it wouldn’t hurt to actually eat the ice cream, though. He took the carton and got out two spoons, sitting close beside her and offering her one of the utensils. Kaede didn’t want to dirty bowls when there was a completely acceptable carton to eat out of.
Until she started signing to him, he hadn’t realized what he had almost done to her. Never in his life had he really had to worry about how someone else would feel if he offed himself; he had never had anyone to even care. The realization stilled him, eyes wide and horrified, looking to his precious little sister. “I’m so selfish,” he murmured, burying his face in his hands. “I’m selfish and I’m a coward and I didn’t take two seconds to think about what I would be doing to you. I’m so sorry, Seiya. How can you ever forgive me for being so awful?”
He was crying again, looking at her so she could continue ‘speaking’ to him. Kaede lifted his hand and gently traced the scars on her wrists, realizing what they meant. And of course, Seiya was right. She wasn’t just some innocent little girl that needed protected. She’d been through hell and came out stronger on the other side, and she deserved his respect for that.
“I’m sorry, Seiya,” he repeated, knowing that his words didn’t mean anything. His actions did. “Let’s go sit on the couch and eat the ice cream and I promise I’ll tell you everything you want to know. I won’t lie to you again. Ever. And I know you don’t have any reason to believe me. I’m just…”
He stood, putting an arm around her. “I’ve never had anybody that cared like this before. You deserve better than I’ve given you so far. So, from now on, I’ll be the best big brother you could ever have. I’m going to try, Seiya, to get away from all this darkness. For you.”

The tea-headed genin accepted the spoon she was given, clinking it against her teeth as she held it in her mouth out of habit. A needed utensil not in use? In the mouth it goes.
“I’m so selfish. I’m selfish and I’m a coward and I didn’t take two seconds to think about what I would be doing to you. I’m so sorry, Seiya. How can you ever forgive me for being so awful?”
Because if I didn't, who would?
It was not a thought of arrogance. It was one of understanding. Kaede was alone; even moreso now than ever. The squad he'd taken pride in was dead. Anyone else he'd ever talked about didn't reside in Amegakure and none of those names held fond memories. She held her arm still and allowed him to inspect it. They were the crude marks of a child who knew nothing more that there was an important blood vessel there, and if she bled enough, the hurt would stop. Not only had the hurting not stopped, but when they'd found her, the hurt had become worse. They had ensured it was something she dared not ever try again.
“I’m sorry, Seiya,” The girl dropped her arm when it was released, reaffixing the bracelet. “Let’s go sit on the couch and eat the ice cream and I promise I’ll tell you everything you want to know. I won’t lie to you again. Ever. And I know you don’t have any reason to believe me. I’m just…”
Even as the older male hugged her, Seiya wanted nothing more to beat the ever-loving hell out of him. He was never ever EVER allowed to do something like that again.
“I’ve never had anybody that cared like this before. You deserve better than I’ve given you so far. So, from now on, I’ll be the best big brother you could ever have. I’m going to try, Seiya, to get away from all this darkness. For you.”
When he released her, Seiya took a step back, absently chewing on the metal spoon in her mouth, green eyes squinted as she tried to figure out what she wanted to do with him. Oh, she did want to beat him. But he'd just gotten out of the hospital, she'd have to save that fit of emotion for later. Pulling the spoon from her lips, Seiya grasped it backward in her hand, fisting her hands into the collar of Kaede's sweatshirt and pulling him down so they were eye level. If looks could kill.
“You damn well better.”
Releasing the Uchiha, she swiftly snatched the ice cream carton from him and went to the livingroom, plopping dead center of the couch and spooning out a bite, daring him to do anything but sit down next to her and also eat this—what the hell flavor was this even?—ice cream with her. "I will, Seiya. I'll get better, because I don't want to take your aniue away from you ever again." He looked downright pathetic, waiting for her to slap him silly again because of how stupid he had been. What he wasn't expecting was for her to storm away with his ice cream.
Spoon in hand, he followed her and settled down on the couch, close enough that they were touching. He dipped his spoon into the carton and took a big bite, swallowing the cold cream and munching the brownie bits encased inside. "Double chocolate fudge brownie. It's my favorite," he informed his imouto, licking chocolate off his lips.

"I will, Seiya. I'll get better, because I don't want to take your aniue away from you ever again."
Hearing that made her happy, giving her a weird feeling in her chest she'd never felt before. It wasn't a necessarily bad feeling, so she marked it as a good thing. But she was supposed to be mad at him, and in the end she kind of ended up pouting around her ice cream. She leaned on him when he seated himself beside her. She hadn't known Kaede very long, but she felt connected to him. They shared something that she didn't have with anyone else. It wasn't exactly lonely; the abuse she'd survived was not something she'd wish upon anyone, but being with someone... well, of “her own kind” as it had been said... she felt a source of comfort from Kaede. Her aniue had been betrayed. Because of that, he won't do that sort of thing to others. And because of that, Seiya felt safe with him. But that didn't mean he wouldn't betray her.
"Double chocolate fudge brownie. It's my favorite."
She glanced up at him when he told her the flavor, looking back to the brown in the carton. She absently chewed on a chunk of brownie. She didn't really have a favorite anything. She'd never had much of a chance to taste a bunch of things to have a favorite. Yeah, she really liked taiyaki but... it didn't really matter what flavor it was, she thought the fish were cute. Food was just something she'd always been grateful for, it was still a bizarre thought to take food for granted enough to favor one thing over another. But she was at a point in her life where that was okay to do, wasn't she? That sounded a little selfish...
Putting a new spoonful in her mouth, she sucked on the basin of the spoon, signing to Kaede.
'Can I stay here?'
She wanted to keep an eye on him. He'd already lied to her at the hospital.

He put his arm around her, keeping her close as they ate the ice cream; even though it kind of still hurt for her to be pressed against his ribs, he didn't care. He wanted to be near his imouto-chan; that was what mattered.
He was momentarily puzzled at her inquiry, but then understanding lit his eyes. "Of course you can, sweetie. I have a guest bedroom, or.. I guess there's enough space in my bedroom that you could camp out in there, if you wanted," Kaede offered, putting another spoonful of the chocolatey goodness in his mouth and licking the spoon clean.
Then the man was silent as he leaned against her, spoon in his mouth. The steady rise and fall of his chest would be a clear indication to Seiya that her exhausted aniue had fallen asleep.

"Of course you can, sweetie. I have a guest bedroom, or.. I guess there's enough space in my bedroom that you could camp out in there, if you wanted."
Seiya shifted under Kaede's weight, unsure of what to feel about all the closeness that had been occurring today. A guest bedroom was conveniant; Seiya was literally capable of sleeping anywhere. She had preferences yeah, but was not picky. But she couldn't leave Kaede alone. She didn't relish the idea of sleeping in his bedroom with him, but she could easily “camp out” and sleep on the floor. She was about to answer him when she realized the tokujo's weight against her had increased, breathing slowed. Kaede had fallen asleep.
For a little while she stayed still and ate more from the tub of ice cream, but it was starting to melt. Carefully, she licked her spoon clean and closed the carton, retrieving the spoon that still hung from the adult's lips. Setting them aside, Seiya carefully wroggled free from Kaede, laying him down on the couch, pulling his legs up onto it. It stirred up old, old memories, from a time when she would care for the younger children, back in that place. Finding a blanket to pull over him, the girl put the ice cream away and washed the spoons. While Kaede was asleep she'd take the time to liberally explore his home, learning where he kept his belongings so that they would be easy to find when needed, as well as seeing what food he had to cook with. She might need to head out to get something to make. Keeping herself busy would be the best way to keep her mind free of the haunting dark images that continually tried to surface because of the situation. It would pass.
