After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
After Seiya ran off to her room the man was left alone, waiting near the entrance to the house. He noticed a young boy peeking out at him. Xero greeted him silently with a nice smile and a short wave. The boy then ran off, following the girl to her quarters.
He was patient with the girl, letting her take care of all her business before they left. He silently read the note over her shoulder. It was a sweet, childish gesture. More importantly he now knew where that hunter resided. Perhaps he would pay a visit next time he was in town, though that wouldn't be for a while even if he did.
In response to the girl's enthusiastic gaze, the man nodded. He took the lead, walking calmly toward the village gates. The only obstacle left was getting out of here. He didn't expect the guards to just let them walk out together without an explanation. Maybe his young companion would have an idea.

Rather than put her book away, Seiya kept it clutched against her chest, walking with the man to the village gates. She spotted the guard—it was the same guard who'd been there when she'd brought Sano into the village. Once the reached the gate, she moved to the window, writing on her pad.
"The injury wasn't as bad as it appeared. I'm taking Sano-san out to see if we can find any of his belongings that may have been left behind from the attack. If I sense any danger, we will return."
The gate seemed skeptical, but he let Seiya through. Seiya felt horrified, having lied to her own gate protectors. But it got them through, and they weren't coming back. Closing the book, she fitted it into her side bag and looked up at the man that held her parasol.
The man nodded at the girl. She was living up to his expectations. It wouldn't be long before he could drop his act, but he supposed it would be better to keep this form intact until he knew a little more about the girl. She had until they made it to where his things were.
"Seiya-chan. Show me what you can do. I need to know how we can work together in case that man shows up." Xero lied once they were far enough from the gates. He just wanted to know what she was capable of. There was a high probability of the girl being a shinobi, but she was more valuable to him alive at the moment.

Seiya looked on in curiosity when the man had a neatly stashed pile of belongings, something that did not line up with his story. Every moment she spent with him felt like she was making a mistake, but it would be okay.
"Seiya-chan. Show me what you can do. I need to know how we can work together in case that man shows up."
Uh... okay, she could do that. She'd already told him she did illusions, so he should be expecting her to use genjutsu. She used the most simple one first, giving him a voice he had not yet heard. She'd long ago formed a link with him once she'd left Kaede's home, the eye contact forming it.
“Try not to get scared, okay?”
She wouldn't be scary at first, but it would be good to warn him before that happened. Instead, she cast the False Surroundings Technique, and the leaves from the trees became pink, turning to cherry blossoms, where they wafted through the air endlessly and began to blanket the ground. Jutsu Used: Onsei Tōei [Voice Projection] Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu [False Surroundings Technique]
The man raised an eyebrow when he heard a foreign voice in his head, and yet the only one around was Seiya and her lips had not moved. "So you can speak. And don't worry about me, I don't scare easy." He answered with a calm smile.
He looked around as the trees changed from green to pink, and petals began stirring all around them. It was a nice effect, but it really wouldn't do much other than provide a momentary distraction or potentially nothing if the enemy was intent on killing you. "This is nice, Seiya-chan, but it doesn't do much to stop an enemy, you know."

"This is nice, Seiya-chan, but it doesn't do much to stop an enemy, you know."
Seiya closed her eyes, taking a breath. Whelp, here went nothing. Opening them again, she kept her gaze steady with the man's. The gentle breeze that blew the petals picked up, making them swirl around both figures. It would take a moment to realize that the falling petals were now in fact soft, fluffy flakes, and the petals that carpeted the ground were not sakura, but instead a blanket of snow. For all intents and purposes, the falling rain had become a winter storm with a healthy chill to match.
It was then that she cast her second genjutsu. For Sano, his surroundings would fade into grey expanse of snow, trapped in a blizzard. The snow would be to his knees. The only landmarks would be mountains in the distance, the only sound the howl of the wind soon to be accompanied by the ringing of his own ears. The only thing he would feel would be cold. Pure, numbing, bitter cold. And after that stage was set for the male, Seiya dug deeper into is mind, provoking his own thoughts and memories to fester into the illusion she'd provided for him to populate that barren landscape with unpleasant reminders of his fears and his past. Jutsu Used: Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu [False Surroundings Technique] Akumu no Akuma no Shinfonī [Demonic Symphony of Nightmares]
As the rain turned to snow, he knew the technique was starting. The wind picked up and the flurries intensified into a buffeting torrent of snow. His legs appeared to be buried and he felt an intense cold beginning to numb his extremities. The ringing in his ears was disorienting inside the howling wind. The man felt obligated to raise his arm to shield himself from the weather. Yes, this was something that could stop an enemy.
Just as the man was about to release himself from the illusion he heard a familiar voice. "Yuzu..." He breathed, turning toward the sound and falling backward as he was met by a feminine specter in a snow white dress. Long aquamarine hair waved around her youthful face with the wind. "..." The ghost called out, using the name she had known him by. It wasn't a name he had been called in several years. This brought a tear to the man's eye. "You can't be here..."
The apparition reached out a hand to him, causing Xero to take a step back. He then heard a weak cry from her. "Help me ..." The pure color of her dress was rapidly tainted by a bold red spreading from her bosom. He felt weak as another specter appeared behind the woman he once loved. It was the grinning form of his father."No!" Xero's fist clenched in rage, but he calmed himself. This wasn't real, it was the past. Shakily he tore the vision from his mind with Kai.
When he returned to reality his eyes were wet, and he was shaking. Biting cold still permeated throughout his body. This was more so from the rain than the illusory chill. Still the hallucination did manage to get to him. He would need to praise the girl for this one. He hesitated for a moment. The illusion had caused him to completely forget about his henge, making it dissipate sometime during it. In light of this, the girl was nowhere in sight.

Seiya's hands slowly fell from their sign as she watched the male's eyes glaze over, lost in the illusory world she'd ensnared him in. His body wavered, mind wracked with whatever his imagination supplied. However, it was with watching him that she noticed his visage slipping. The short blond became a long black, the glazed green became a bloody red. This man had been using a henge. That was the third strike. She couldn't do this after all.
Hoping the man would be entranced longer by the illusion, she slipped her parasol from his grasp and folded the spokes flat. From there, she ran. Running directly in the road wouldn't have been good, so she took to the woods. A child of the rain knew how to move in the rain, and she moved through the mud and the slick without slipping, heading towards the village where she wouldn't easily be seen whenever he snapped out of it. Seiya had no idea what she'd walked herself into, but she was getting the idea it was in over her head.
The man sighed, given the amount of time it felt like he'd been in the illusion she was probably halfway to the village by now. Cursing under his breath he quickly grabbed his mask and sped off after the girl. It would be trouble if anyone saw his true face. He stuck to a high vantage point, leaping across the branches of trees lining the path. She may have had the head start, but he was most certainly faster, even with his recent injury.
The rogue spotted his prey just as the village was coming into view in the distance. He quickly caught up to the girl, landing on top of her, pressing a knee into her back. This would cause her to fall forward and become pinned under him.

The girl skidded in the mud, dodging around a tree, breath heavy. She could feel him gaining on her. She didn't know any techniques to increase her speed. She couldn't outrun him. It wasn't long until she could hear him too, and she dug the spike of her parasol into the soft earth, using it to prevent from slipping as she dove herd to the side, narrowly missing his collision with her, and dug it into the earth a second time to regain her footing and continue her mad dash. The change in angle allowed her to glance at him from the corner of her eyes, and she spotted the mask on his face. The masked man. A pit of despair swelled into her stomach and she clutched the parasol with an iron grip, doing her damndest to run, using the point of it in the earth to zig her zags around the trees without slipping. Any prey animal knows that running in a straight line from a predator was suicide.
Xero clicked his tongue in impatience. This brat was beginning to get on his nerves. To think he'd actually need to use chakra for this was upsetting. Nevertheless he hadn't missed a step in his chase, getting close enough to pin her using his shadow by calculating and predicting her weaving pattern. She would feel herself slowly being dragged back toward the man. A very menacing figure indeed.
"I can't have you running off like that now can I, girlie?" He said, "I'm not above ending your life here if it comes to it." A lone shadowy tendril found itself wrapping around her neck and applying a moderate pressure to show that he was serious. "You're never going to be returning here. Ever." With that the man grabbed her by the back of her neck himself, lifting her off the ground and starting the walk back to where his other possessions were waiting.

I FEEL IT ALL IN THE CENTER OF MY HEART
you're the love of my life
Seiya's body froze involuntarily in mid step, but her emotions of fear were still surging forward, coming out in a choked, voiceless sob as her body was being pulled backward. Tears unwittingly sprung to her eyes. No, it couldn't be happening. Scared, so scared. She'd helped this man, and now she found herself pulled to a stop, Sano's presence like a mass of malicious intent burning into her spine.
"I can't have you running off like that now can I, girlie? I'm not above ending your life here if it comes to it."
When Seiya felt the constriction around her neck, her hands automatically went to her throat to claw the hand away, only to find herself clawing at nothing but the ribbon tied around it. She could feel fingers closing in, but no warmth of a hand or the feel of the appendage encircling. Terrified, her hands went together trying to dispel the genjutsu she was sure was cast on her.
"You're never going to be returning here. Ever."
But there was no genjutsu. Just as the constriction lessened, a warm hand did go around her neck, fingers digging in against her windpipe, lifting her small form from the ground completely. It took all of her willpower to not stab the man through with the spear of her parasol. She wouldn't do that much damage, the weapon would be taken away from her, and she really would be killed.
The genin choked under the weight of her own body dangling, free hand clawing at the arm that held her aloft—not to fight him, no, but to latch onto him so that she was not merely dangling from the joints of her neck. Seiya recalled the note she'd left for Kaede. 'I'll be fine. Don't come looking for me.' Perhaps that had been the best option. Being with this man meant the man wasn't near Kaede, and telling Kaede not to come meant him not seeking her out and putting himself in danger. It was hardly a comfort, but it was something she could cling to. It was the only thing she could cling to. Sano-san had raped and carved her aniue. Was he going to do the same to her? As long as she behaved, she would survive, and survival, above all else, was what the genin strived for.
The man carried her all the way until they were back to the area where his things were. He threw the girl down with the rest of his possessions before putting his cloak back on. It felt wonderful to be back in his normal attire. Then he addressed the kid. "Starting today, you've gone rogue." The term, while mainly reserved for defecting shinobi, meant one cut all loyalty and ties with their previous connections.
He was uncertain what he would do with the girl in the future, but for now her disappearance would stir trouble in the area. The time for him to move on had come, whether he wanted to or not. After returning all his gear to it's proper place, Xero began walking northward. Tsuchi no Kuni would be a nice location after the rain. He beckoned the girl to walk with him, in time she might even learn to appreciate his outlook.

Seiya hissed in pain when she was thrown, hitting the muddy ground beside his belongings, fingers sinking into the damp earth as she looked upward at the menacing man.
"Starting today, you've gone rogue."
Rogue. She, a genin, one with little to offer, marked a traitor to her village and her country. The term alone was frightening. When she was beckoned to follow him, she rose on shaky knees, scraping the mud free from her dress. She didn't bother popping open her parasol; she was already soaked through and filthy. It was only a matter of waiting for the rain to end, a sunny sky of which she had never seen and would not leave pleasant memories.
