After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
"I see so still need some work eh? Well then let's work on that today."
She looked at the redhead a bit sheepishly.
"So here's what we're going to do. I'm going to make sure that by the end of this week, you have not only mastered the basic academy standard techniques, but you also have a couple of other useful techniques under your belt."
There was that smile.
"Once you're done with my training Kodane, you should have no problem passing the end test."
She wasn't so sure of herself now. Not that she'd tell him that, of course. She watched the leaves dance around his pretty long hair, registering he had asked her for confirmation a beat too late.
“Yeah! I look forward to it.”
Going near where Shiro-sensei lay, Kodane crouched, then plopped in the grass, setting both ferrets down to run off and play. Putting a hand to her mouth, she leaned in close to the dog's ear, confident in Shirokage's silence.
“Make sure he doesn't go easy on me, 'kay?” she whispered. “I don't want him to think I'm weak or anything like that. I can handle anything he throws at me!”
Looking back at her Shikashu, her eyes sparkled as if challenging him to do his worst.
When Kodane sat down next to her, Shirokage looked up at her with big brown eyes. Her ear twitched as Kodane began whispering to her, and if she were capable too well of showing human expressions she'd probably have some sort of ridiculous grin on her face. "You know," she spoke back which would likely be much to the student's surprise, "You could always ask him." Shikashu arced an eyebrow before shrugging and placing his hands on his hips again.
At this point he took several steps out towards the middle of the clearing before turning towards his ward. "Alright so then lets begin with the basics." He waited for his ward to step forward with her full attention, "Do you know what the five basic jutsu that every shinobi needs to know before graduation are?"

"You know." Kodane froze, staring blankly at the source of the voice, a voice of which she'd only ever heard bark. "You could always ask him."
“You can TAAAAALK?!” Kodane screeched shrilly, getting the hell away from the canin. It wasn't that talking animals scared her, no, Pixie and Moxie had attested to that. But talking animals were of special breeding, and many of the ninken in Konoha didn't talk. Plus, Shiro-sensei had never talked before, she'd only ever barked and acted like, well, a dog. It was mind-boggling.
Realizing how incredibly embarrassing that display was, the girl shot to her feet, completely ignoring the grass blades stuck to her clothes.
"Alright so then lets begin with the basics."
Kodane came closer to Shikashu to assure him he did have her undivided attention now.
"Do you know what the five basic jutsu that every shinobi needs to know before graduation are?"
She brightened. That was such an easy question.
“Bunshin no jutsu, henge no jutsu, kakuremino no jutsu...” the girl counted off on her fingers, “Kawarimi no jutsu and...” Kodane faltered before the fifth one came to her, and she held out a hand with all five fingers extended. “Nawanuke no jutsu!”
Shirokage laughed a silent laugh at Kodane's reaction and went back to resting her head on her paws. She was such a shy creature that she rarely did ever talk, even when it was just her and Shikashu, but around him, she was braver and more calm. So day by day she came out of her shell, even if by just a tiny bit.
Meanwhile as Kodane recounted the five basic techniques of a shinobi, her mentor nodded his head. "Very good, and I presume you know the various applications for each and every one of them. By the end of my training sessions with you, I'll make sure you can perform each and every one of them without even batting an eye, but since we're focusing on chakra control for this particular lesson lets focus on bunshin no jutsu for now." Shikashu paused for a moment before continuing, "Bunshin no jutsu is a technique that is best used for disillusioning your adversary. It creates an illusionary clone of yourself which you can then use to trick your adversary and thus hide away to perform a sneak attack." Shikashu then motioned to Kodane, "It requires the perfect balance of chakra to not go too overboard and thus use too much in the making, but to also not use too little and thus fail at the attempt. So show me Kodane, just how are you at making clones?" Yes now instead of her mentor giving just a pure verbal lesson, it was time for the student to demonstrate her skills. If need be he would demonstrate how to perform said skill for her, but with these basic ones, he doubted that he would need to. If he did, well he might as well as march over to the academy right now and deck her chuunin sensei in the face.

Make a clone, eh? That was kidstuff.
“Of course I can make a clone.”
Forming the handseals, a copy of her flickered into existence beside her, and she smiled at it, the clone smiling back. To prove just how easy it was, she made a second one, all three giving broad grins and holding their fingers up in a V.
“I'm ready to be a genin, Shika-sensei, give me something challenging to dooo.”
Of course she was capable of doing it, that was no surprised really, but Shikashu nonetheless couldn't help but laugh at her enthusiasm. "Hold on, I'm going somewhere with all of this. I just need to make sure of something first," he held up one finger as he spoke before returning his hand to the other elbow with his arms folded across his chest. "Alright next I want you to perform a combination technique. For this you will be using the Bunshin no Jutsu and Henge no Jutsu." He looked around for a moment, before deciding he couldn't find a good subject.
"Your subject of choice for the transformation is up to you."

"Hold on, I'm going somewhere with all of this. I just need to make sure of something first."
The three Kodanes narrowed their eyes at Shika-sensei. Just what was he up to?
"Alright next I want you to perform a combination technique. For this you will be using the Bunshin no Jutsu and Henge no Jutsu."
The girl and her clones looked between each other.
"Your subject of choice for the transformation is up to you."
Well this should be fun. Kodane wasn't the best at transformations, but she wasn't the worst. She had to transform the clones too? How did one even do that? Her clones flickered like static on a channel when she thought about it, and she had to pull her attention forward.
“Uuhhh...”
Well, it didn't hurt to try. The clone to her right was focused first, and she managed to transform it into something like Shirokage-sensei. The psuedo-dog was chubbier than its original, fluff a bit exaggerated to Kodane's imagination. Shiro had super fluffy fur, and that was something she tried to portray. The second clone she transformed into a giant Moxie for lack of ideas. Okay, that wasn't so hard... now to transform herself.
She stared up at Shika-sensei, wondering what she should transform into. She considered transforming into him, but would that be too cliché? Then it struck her, how about Shika-sensei as a woman? That would be funny and worthy of praise, right? Putting her hands together to make the sign, she focused on that image and—the Shirokage clone poofed. In surprise she paused midway to look at the empty space where the clone had been, only to bump into the big ferret clone and dispel that one as well. Because she was in the middle of performing her henge when she got surprised, she transformed, and it wasn't exactly that of her imagination. Unfortunately, Kodane didn't realize that.
Trying to work as if that had not happened, she did, indeed, transform into a female Shikashu. The bulge of the breasts and the curve of the hips filled out his manly attire a bit strangely but not necessarily in a bad manner, and the hair was long and loose. It would have been okay, had the replica not possessed a ferret's mask and Shiro's tail, mental image having been marred by the surprise of the clones taking her attention. The face was deformed as well, the features wrong entirely to match the angular lines of the male's face, the shape of the nose, even the color of the eyes. Oblivious to her screw up, Kodane grinned wide.
When her transformation was complete, to say Shikashu was amused would definitely have been an understatement. The man reached up and covered his mouth with one hand to keep himself from laughing out loud, however this caused him to somewhat choke on his laughs. Hell even Shirokage, when she noticed, found the entire thing amusing. She wasn't exactly forcing back her laughter, but was rather chuckling over on the side to herself.
After a few moments, and Shikashu had collected himself again, he shook his head. "Most people transform themselves and the clones into the same thing, because focusing on three different things at one time is definitely difficult. I'd suggest in the future, doing that until you can make the clones not vanish." Was he trying to continue like nothing happened, yup. Was it working, hell no. After he got those words out he found himself chuckling again, and pulled hit konoha hitai-ate out of his pocket to use the reflective surface as a temporary mirror for the girl. "I'm certain 'this' wasn't quite your intention."
Kodane was first confused, then slightly embarrassed that Shika-sensei was laughing at him like that. Was it really that bad? Even Shiro-sensei was laughing at her, and she could hear the two ferrets giggle as well.
"Most people transform themselves and the clones into the same thing, because focusing on three different things at one time is definitely difficult. I'd suggest in the future, doing that until you can make the clones not vanish."
“But that would have been too easy,” she protested, growing red at all the laughing. She watched as the man pulled out his headband, confused as to why he was showing it to her. It looked like a normal headband.
"I'm certain 'this' wasn't quite your intention."
Her lilac eyes then focused on the reflection in the steel of the headband. No... Kodane took the headband from him and examined her reflection. She didn't look like Shika-sensei at all... she looked like a mutant ferret hybrid. Entirely mortified, she released the transformation, eyes locked on the reflection of her reddened face in the steel of Shika-sensei's headband. Suddenly remembering the headband belonged to Shika-sensei, she jutted it out at him, eyes locked onto the green grass.
Shirokage at this point got up to her feet and padded over to Kodane before shoving her head into the young girl's leg. It was her way of, without speaking, saying stop fretting and pet me for I am fluffy. As she did this a smirk crossed Shikashu's face. "Hmm.." He thought for a moment with his arms folded across his chest. Certainly he was expecting the transforming the clone and herself would be more difficult but he didn't entirely suspect that the girl would have failed so hard the first time. Oh well that just meant that she needed some more improvement. "Well then I have an idea if you really want to keep it like that." He motioned for her to come with him as he walked over to the edge of the nearby pond and sat by the edge.
"People typically find that they have an easier time transforming their own forms into people, animals, or even objects that have heavily influenced their lives. However holding a transformation while trying to do multiple different subjects at a time is difficult. You have to know how to precisely manipulate your chakra, because different sized subjects require different amounts of chakra for the transformation to hold." He held up a finger as a fox darted past them, "You see, that fox for example. If I were to transform into its likeness then it would require a small amount of chakra to do so. Likely just enough to activate and then hold the technique." He placed his hands on his legs. "Here I'm going to break it down somewhat. I'm sure you get it, but maybe I might bring light to something you didn't realize before."
"When you use the clone technique, you have to emit a small amount of chakra once in order to make a copy of yourself, too much and you might over do it, too little and the clone won't turn out right. Same thing if you want to transform yourself into the likeness of another, but what about when you make a clone not of yourself but something else entirely? Most people would think, make the clone and then transform it. You emit chakra into the clone twice, once to form the clone, and another to transform it, but what most people don't realize is that you can also only do it once." Shikashu looked at Kodane and held up one finger, "Don't create a clone of yourself, but rather your target." Shikashu then shrugged his shoulders, "Although you'll have to find the right balance of the chakra input for the new clone's size, though, so you don't screw it up."

Kodane almost hadn't noticed the dog approach until Shiro-sensei bumped into her leg. Taking a moment to stare at the canine, she dropped to a knee and started to pet and scratch the akita. When the headband wasn't taken from her, she pocketed it into her sweatshirt, waiting for the male's next move.
"Well then I have an idea if you really want to keep it like that."
Tilting her head in curiosity, Kodane followed Shika-sensei, seating herself beside him.
“What's your idea?” she asked him.
"People typically find that they have an easier time transforming their own forms into people, animals, or even objects that have heavily influenced their lives. However holding a transformation while trying to do multiple different subjects at a time is difficult. You have to know how to precisely manipulate your chakra, because different sized subjects require different amounts of chakra for the transformation to hold."
What he was saying made sense. She was just trying to show off, but her chakra control wasn't top-notch... she still needed more practice. She thought that if she wanted to do it right hard enough, it would all work out. Guess that doesn't work, eheh...
"You see, that fox for example. If I were to transform into its likeness then it would require a small amount of chakra to do so. Likely just enough to activate and then hold the technique."
Lilac eyes watched the fox dart past them. How did one transform into something that wasn't the same size as they were? Or into animals that walk on all fours? Did the person need to crawl around all hunched up? Or did the illusion just, like, make most of their body not exist?
"Here I'm going to break it down somewhat. I'm sure you get it, but maybe I might bring light to something you didn't realize before."
Perhaps that was something he was going to explain to her? If he didn't, the student would definitely ask about it.
“Okay.”
As Kodane listened to Shika-sensei's explanation, her brow furrowed. What he was saying kinda made sense, but sounded a lot harder than what she had been trying to do . Yeah, she should have picked the same thing instead of three different things, but. She got to her feet, brushing off blades of grass.
“I'll try that, then.”
She chose to transform into Shika-sensei again, but this time she chose to look like him proper without trying to make other shapes cloud her end result. Looking at the redhead intently, she focused, deciding to make a clone first so it didn't look like she was just cloning herself after transforming. That would be cheating, wouldn't it? It seemed like it would be. Keeping her focus, a copy of Shika-sensei flickered into life beside her. Success! Examining her clone for a few long moments, she poked it to ensure it was real. Of course, this action reminded her that no, the clone wasn't real, and the illusion dissolved when she touched it.
Shikashu watched his student for a moment and marveled somewhat as she made a perfect copy of him flicker into existence beside them. "Not bad," he commented but he couldn't help but snicker when she poked it as if trying to see as if it were real which made the clone go NOPE and poof back out of existence. "Heh, curiosity killed the Shu eh?" Pun off of the old saying 'curiosity killed the cat' but in this case it killed his clone, or rather Kodane's clone. Still the fact that she was getting this down so easily brought a thought to the man's mind. /It's possible she could learn THAT technique sometime in the future. Not now though./
At this point Shikashu stood up and shoved his hands into his pockets. "Not bad at all Kodane, you're learning quickly, but for now lets move on to where I was actually going with all of this." He looked over towards a near by tree, "Do you already know Kinobori no Waza, otherwise known as the Tree Walking Technique?"
Kodane was really happy about his compliment, but couldn't help but pout slightly at the joke.
"Not bad at all Kodane, you're learning quickly, but for now lets move on to where I was actually going with all of this."
“Oh?”
The student looked to the tree he looked at, gaze going all the way to the tip-top of it.
"Do you already know Kinobori no Waza, otherwise known as the Tree Walking Technique?"
Kodane approached the tree and put her palm flush with the bark, looking up the branches as high as she could see from here.
“Sensei was starting to teach us about it, but I'm not really good at it. Accidentally falling from so high sounds scary to me so I haven't wanted to practice much on my own.”
"I see." Shikashu looked up into the heights of the tree. It was one of the tallest trees here within the village limits and stretched up really rather high. In fact it was taller than the apartment building itself and it was at least four stories tall on its own.
Pulling a kunai out of its holster on his leg, Shikashu spoke once more, "Well then our goal is going to get you to bit by bit be able to reach point markers on the tree with the use of Kinobori no Waza." He tossed the kunai at the tree with a weak amount of force, for him, causing it to imbed itself half way into and up the tree. "Your goal for today will be to reach that point marker. Depending on how fast you're able to do it, we might increase the distance." He estimated the height in his head, "I realize that marker has to be at least thirty feet up, but don't worry about falling. I'm here. I won't let you get badly hurt."
Fully realizing what he said he looked at Kodane with a completely stern expression on his face, "A little pain is good use as a teaching tool. It follows the basic philosophy, 'If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.' Now then before you start, do you want me to cover anything about how to use Kinobori no Waza?"

"I see."
Shika-sensei's tone didn't sound quite too positive. He wasn't disappointed she couldn't do it, was he?
"Well then our goal is going to get you to bit by bit be able to reach point markers on the tree with the use of Kinobori no Waza."
Her lilac eyes trailed up the trunk, waaay up to where he had thrown the kunai. That was sooo high.
"Your goal for today will be to reach that point marker. Depending on how fast you're able to do it, we might increase the distance."
Oh, but she refused to let him down.
“I can do that easy.”
"I realize that marker has to be at least thirty feet up, but don't worry about falling. I'm here. I won't let you get badly hurt."
The sound of that meant he'd catch her if she fell, and the thought was comforting. “Badly hurt” implied he wouldn't let her get off harm-free for messing up, though. That was okay. That meant incentive to not mess up instead of just falling into her sensei's strong arms. She didn't want to break something.
"A little pain is good use as a teaching tool. It follows the basic philosophy, 'If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.' Now then before you start, do you want me to cover anything about how to use Kinobori no Waza?"
Made sense. She shook her head, the two curls sticking out of her head bouncing.
“I know how to use it... I just need to work on my control so I can stay attached to the surface. That's the part I'm really bad at.”
Placing her foot on the tree, Kodane looked way up where the kunai was. Would she even be able to reach that? Backing away, the student took a running start at the tree and jumped onto it. The girl only managed to get about ten feet up it before she slipped, knee grating into the bark, and fell back towards the ground.
