After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
A little café just across from the village square. That's where Eiji had told Yuu to meet him. The Iwa headband was absent from his face and neck, instead hidden in his bag. It made people visibly uneasy seeing a ninja from a different country roaming their streets, and rightly so, although Yuu wouldn't bring any harm. Not that they knew that, of course.
As always, Yuu chose a table outside, waiting for his company to arrive, purposely losing his mind in thought to ignore those who had comments about the foreigner. It had clearly been a long time since this village had visitors, but then, the same could be said about Iwagakure, now, couldn't it?
The wind country sported miles upon miles of open desert, but oases of various sizes dotted the barren landscape. It was closer to those areas that the plants grew, but there was always the occasional stray. Prickly pear would be a nice treat to bring home, but it would be difficult to get a substantial amount of it. Yuu had only read of desert plants in the books of the large library, but they had included detailed pictures and he knew where to look.
The most useful plant of all would be aloe vera. The succulent plant was used for countless remedies. If Yuu could get nothing else, he'd at least cut stalks of aloe if he could find it. If he could get root stalks, it would be possible to replicate the environment the need to survive and grow their own in the greenhouse. Assuming the plant was in somewhat decent condition upon arriving in Iwa.
In his thoughts, Yuu almost didn't notice the server come to him, asking about drinks. Politely he declined; he was waiting for someone, after all.

Eiji stood before a small cafe - if you could call it that - in a busier segment of the village. This is where Eiji had told Yuu to meet him. He could see the Iwagakure shinobi as he was approaching the building, even without his headband on. The bright hair was a very uncommon thing in the village, unless it was a result of exposure to the ever-present sun. Something about talking with the ninja made Eiji very... nervous. He wasn't sure why, though. Of course, Yuu was older - but not that much older. It was as if he was going to be interviewed for a very important job, but he had to give off a good impression. He had to represent the hard-working shinobi of the sand, didn't he? Maybe. Maybe not.
He approached the table from the side, and pulled out the chair opposite his company.
"Hello again,"
Proceeding to sit down, Eiji slouched forward a bit. He didn't take a bag with him, but he was very tempted to - not that he had any idea why he would need it, though. Perhaps it just made him look busier, or more interesting. Sitting there made him feel like some kind of little child, the kind who had to prove to their role models that they were worthy of something that didn't exist. Noko would slap him if he could see how Eiji was approaching this, though. He might be a ninja from another village, but that didn't put them on two entirely different levels. Suddenly feeling proud of himself, he fixed his posture somewhat and took a deep breath, the familiar scent of Suna wafting through his nostrils.
"Have you ordered anything?"
Eiji didn't bring too much money, because he didn't have too much. Life as a Genin was not exactly lavish, but this never phased him.
Yuu looked up when his company arrive. It wasn't as if he had been late, Yuu had just been early. The genin appeared to be nervous. It wasn't as if Yuu would bite, or anything.
"Have you ordered anthing?"
“I did not. I was waiting for you; I thought I'd have a taste of a local's recommendation.”
Yuu examined his companion while waiting for the server to come by. The clothes were a stark contrast to what he was used to back home. But it was hot in Suna. The sun was harsh, the winds were strong. The village itself was secluded in a dead crater of sorts, which avoided the sand blasts. The clothes worn by the locals were necessary to cope. Even before arriving in the village Yuu knew he wasn't dressed the part, and the deep chill that set in during the night was a drastic change from the day. The environment here was a lot harder than that of Iwa, although, he mused, that could very well be because Yuu had been born and raised in those mountains.
His tanned face looked young, of the earlier teens. Thirteen or fourteen, perhaps? A young genin then. Yuu remembered being that age. A lot of things changed drastically for him at that age, although everything changes for every shinobi at that age. After the order was placed with the waitress, Yuu turned his odd-colored eyes back to his company.
“What sorts of things did you want to ask me about?”

Recommendations. Eiji wasn't so sure that he could give them - he wasn't exactly an expert on the 'fine dining' in the Sand Village. His normal meals consisted of either instant noodles or the occasional exotic food he would stumble upon in the public market, but little else. Prices on food fluctuated quite a bit, for whatever could not survive in the harsh weather of the land of wind had to be shipped and traded for. This meant that Eiji never really got the chance to have 'real' food, but he wasn't interested in it to begin with. He had bigger fish to fry than actual fried fish. But he did love hot tea, which he ordered when the waitress came around again. Whether it be a sweltering hot day or an incredibly chilly night, Eiji was always ready for hot tea. It was one of his secret pleasures, of which he had few.
He cleared his mind when Yuu started to address him. He had formulated specific questions to ask prior to arriving, but couldn't recall any of them. Eventually, everything that was on his mind was condensed into one question.
"Well,"
He began.
"What is it like to be a ninja in Iwagakure?"
Eiji wondered about a lot of things. He wondered if life in Iwa was like life in Suna. Or in Konoha, or Kumo. But he hadn't met anyone from outside of the land of wind, save Yuu. This was a brand new experience for him, and his world was only getting better. He had to learn all he could from whoever could teach him - what would Yuu teach him today?
"Well, what's it like being a ninja in Iwagakure?"
Yuu tapped his lip in thought. Really the only places he'd been outside of Iwa were Suna, Kusa, and Taki. Each place had been drastically different from the rocky mountain that he called “home” and that, perhaps, was the only reason he was able to provide an answer.
“Well, there's no sand. It's craggy all the way around and sometimes it's difficult to reach places to train. As a medic I need to go into hard-to-reach places to collect fresh herbs that won't grow in the greenhouse. But from an early age, we're taught how to scale the cliffs with ease. Water cascades down from hidden caves higher in the mountains and forms a river similar to a moat that surrounds the border of the village. Most of the buildings are tall stone towers but we have terraces with wooden estate homes, and there are many cable bridges that span between each building. It's rather unnerving for those who fear heights, but there's a lot of flat ground down below with markets and homes and a park. I've discovered it's rather different from the few other countries I've traveled to.”
Taking a sip of the hot tea, which was the same as the young male across from him drank, Yuu wondered what other sorts of questions he'd have.
“You'll find that many of the shinobi in Iwa specialize in playing in the dirt.”

Eiji thanked the waitress for his coveted tea, and took a large gulp of it while he listened to Yuu speak. He was a medical ninja - of course, the sand had them, as well, but Eiji considered about the large differences between himself and them. Their job was arguably more important - and a lot more dangerous - than his own, when it came to the front lines. Herb gathering in the mountains must be a pretty normal experience for Yuu, but Eiji knew that these herbs were even harder to come by in Suna. Trade was the lifeblood of the village, it seemed. But then there was the biggest difference, the obvious lack of sand. Eiji only knew the sand. To him, this was it. Of course he'd seen pictures of other lands, paintings of mountains, photographs of rolling plains, but he'd never been to any of those places before. He didn't know what grass felt like, he'd never seen snow before - mountains were always in the distance, but he'd never been to them. His list of places to visit was just getting longer and longer...
He chuckled at Yuu's last comment.
"I think sand is more fun to play with than dirt, especially mud."
He'd built his fair-share of sand castle and hills and the likes as a young child.
"Can't say that it's easier to deal with, though."
Walking over sand dunes was no easy task, and he'd done it all of his life. Sometimes his legs still hurt when he reaches the top of a particularly tall one, and he trains atop them all of the time. This was just part of his training, though. The course that mother nature herself has spread out before him. Little did he know that life in Suna was arguably the hardest, due to the climate, but Suna-born citizens made it through all right. As fine as they could in the middle of a desert, that is.
Eiji took another sip.
"What kind of missions have you had to do before?"
"What kind of missions have you had to do before?"
Yuu hummed, thinking about the jobs he's had to do.
“A lot of my job consists of carting things around the village for one person or another, but I usually work at a clinic with my Shishou as an apprentice medic. We've had a few missions to take out rogue bandits bothering smaller villages; I stay on the sidelines and help my teammates fight to their fullest.”
Yuu's skills weren't fit to fight on the front lines, anyway. He disabled, he trapped, he healed. But he didn't have much offensive power on his own. It was his bow that provided him his attack power; if he loses it, he's more or less screwed. That was why it never left his possession and neither did his quiverful of arrows.
“How about yourself? What sorts of missions do Suna ninja take in the desert?”

Eiji continued sipping his tea and listening to Yuu as he spoke. From what it sounded like, his missions were pretty typical - that is, until he got into more of the front-line missions. Eiji still had never left the village grounds, and he could only imagine what an actual fight was like. The thought of a fight was very enticing to Eiji's youth, but he knew that battles were rarely 'fun'. And Yuu, as a medic, had to deal with more of the ugly stuff. Definitely not a job that Eiji would be able to handle. Not yet, at least. He wasn't expecting to get any questions directed at himself, either - he blinked, setting down his cup.
"Well..."
There wasn't anything truly interesting about his missions, specifically. He was still a genin, after all, and that meant that his missions were pretty general. He tried his best, though, to make it interesting.
"I run a lot of errands around the village. Just about anything I can, even if it's not a mission. Sometimes I have to water crops or carry heavy things, but sometimes I have to go out into the desert and find things. Never too far out, though."
Noko would kill him if he got himself lost in the desert, which was very easy to do if one wandered off too far. He shook the thought from his mind as soon as he could, and continues to drink his tea, which was almost gone.
"It's not all that interesting here, there's just a lot of sand."
Yuu listened, nodding every now and then, as Eiji explained what he did around the village. It seemed even in far away lands, the job of a low-ranking shinobi didn't change. How many errands and gardens and rockslides had he needed to take care of? It was nothing but busywork that exploited the abilities of a shinobi, which had irked him to no end when he was a genin, but now that Yuu was older, he realized it was to keep the children of the village safe; even as a shinobi, a child was a child.
“The same could be said of my home, how there's nothing but rocks and water.” Although it was not true; the mountains were laced with interconnected caves and caverns, many with water running through them, that had endless things to find. “It's just a matter of perspective. What sorts of things do you look for in the desert? From what I saw there wasn't a whole lot to find.”
