After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
The peaks cast shadows over the far training ground in the mountain. Even though it was after eight in the morning, it would take time for the sun to get high enough to cast proper light into the crater-like valley that was Iwagakure. Sitting cross-legged with his back against a tree, Yuu sipped water from a bottle, awaiting his company. Naturally the second date would involve trying to impale the girl. Holding back wasn't an option, he knew; it could get him killed in the long-run.
His bow and quiver lay across his lap and he calculated some methods to use against her. He wasn't the best strategist, but he could think of ways to disable her. He'd never personally seen Shi fight, just knew that she was a Bakuton user. That meant close-range explosions from her hands. He'd have to avoid close range if at all possible, and disabling her movements would be favorable to keep her far away long enough to get a good arrow into her. A barbed arrow wouldn't be pulled out and would cause pretty bad muscle tearing where it hit even without removal. Add that with a numbing or burning arrow and it would be an easy win. If she took to the trees then mud wouldn't work; he'd have to either shoot her down or bring the tree down, which would be needlessly difficult.
Using the tip of a kunai, Yuu carefully carved an array into his bow before the girl arrived. It would be his only proper defense if she brought it hand-to-hand. Brushing the carving dust away, he hoped the seal would work the way it was supposed to (he hadn't tried it since learning). Putting the kunai back in its holder, Yuu replaced the bow on his lap, closing his eyes and leaning back on the trunk of the tree, mind occupied over what the end result of this spar would be as he waited for the girl to arrive. MOKUZAI KYOUKA [WOOD ENHANCEMENT] D || FUUINJUTSU || N/A || CLOSE|| DEFENSIVE/SUPPLEMENTARY
By inking or carving the seal into wood, it can fortify the material. This seal is more effective on smaller pieces of wood than larger pieces of wood. It hardens the wood, but it also gives it a somewhat elastic property, allowing it to take a much larger amount of stress before it breaks. This is especially useful for wooden weapons. Once the seal is damaged the effects negate.

Shi made the hike in silence, sparing an occasional glance toward the feline that was chasing the early rising prey animals back into their burrows with a grin on his face. If only everyone could be so easily entertained. She wished she could say she was looking forward to this little sparring session but she didn't care to lie to herself. Shi enjoyed the routine she'd created for herself, and this was most certainly not a part of her routine. She didn't know what to expect from the boy who'd proposed this challenge, and as always the unfamiliar had her wary.
Her fingers dipped into the holsters on her thighs, fingertips caressing the tools she'd meticulously replaced after testing and cleaning them this morning. She tweaked the kunai idly so that her fingers could curl around the handle just right when she needed them, preferring them over some needless and likely cumbersome weapon when it came to close-range, hand-to-hand combat. Whether she'd get to use them with the archer remained to be seen. The knuckles of her left hand brushed the feathery fletching on her tranquilizer darts, she'd checked them this morning as well, and the thought of taking the medic down with one amused her some. He did express interest in her poison of choice, after all. Once she'd checked and rechecked her belongings she sighed softly, glancing skyward. She'd dressed in her older training clothes, she had no qualms about getting them dirty or torn up, and her hair was pulled into a ponytail to keep it out of the way, about as prepared for the unknown as she could get. 'May as well get this over with...'
Her fingers curled around one of the kunai in her holster as she finished her little trek, wary of an ambush as she approached the training grounds. No attempts to surprise her came, in fact when she did approach the edge of the grounds she saw he was seated. She made no attempt to close the distance, half-expecting some underhanded bit of treachery from the medic.
It was some time before he felt the girl enter his awareness zone. Yuu opened his eyes, peering off to the right where she stood. Not a hello, not even so much as attempting to announce her presence. Well, what had he expected? He knew at least that much about her already. Unless they were talking about poison or maiming, Yuu doubted he'd get good conversation out of her. From behind the treeline a vole dashed out frantically before being swooped up in the jaws of the oversized housecat. He could almost hear the crunch of its tiny spine.
Giving a small wave and a smile Yuu stood, stretching. Slipping the quiver over his head, Yuu rest the water bottle next to the bag he'd brought, filled with medical supplies. Who knew what would happen, but he suspected he'd need it. Pulling off his trademark hat, he dropped it on the bag, ruffling his hair and moving out into the open area. Hopefully this spar would provide satisfying challenge, unlike the fight he'd had with his former teammate recently.

She strolled away from the trees toward the male's position, her left hand dipping into her pouch as she turned to level a look on her companion when he started to follow. "Stay out of the way, Jun." She waited for the nod of assent before withdrawing her hand, needles glinting in the morning light as she turned, hurling the tranquilizer darts toward her opponent without preamble. She wasn't a fan of making the first move and generally she avoided it, but this time she didn't have the luxury of knowing what weaknesses to exploit and didn't have the patience to sit on the defensive and wait for them to present themselves.
A simple needle toss, Yuu's bow went over his shoulder and his hands moved together as he dodged. Blowing a spray of mud across the ground the bow slid down his arm and back into his grasp, a blue-fletched arrow just as quickly nocked, fingers pushing medical jutsu through the seals. Trying to predict a forward movement, he aimed the numbing arrow at the tenketsu in her left leg. So it begins.
DOTON: DOROANA [EARTH STYLE: MUDHOLE] C|| NINJUTSU || DOTON || MID || OFFENSIVE/SUPPLIMENTARY Taking in a deep breath, Yuu will eject a thin film of mud over a wide area. This mud will then soak into the ground, sinking to meet with any water flowing underneath, which then comes to the surface, similar to Suiton: Kawazoku. However, instead of rushing along the surface, the water will continue to come to the surface, creating a large mud pit. This is a wide-scale trap that can take 7-15 minutes to fully complete depending on available groundwater, but the process can be sped up by using an external water source. The center of the mud pit can be as deep as two and half feet, nearly impossible to escape from, growing gradually more shallow as it radiates outward. As always, area and depth depends on available water and earth, but Yuu cannot manage an area larger than 50 yards at its widest point. The jutsu is designed for entrapment over a large area. As the core of the jutsu's mud was mixed with his own chakra, Yuu can walk across the surface of the mud without sinking in, and he can easily free teammates who might accidentally get stuck. This jutsu does not do damage unless the enemy gets swallowed under the deeper mud's surface and suffocates.
FՍՍINJUTSU: MAHI YA [SEALING ART: NUMBING ARROW] C|| FՍՍINJUTSU || N/A || LONG || OFFENSIVE/SUPPLEMENTARY Of the three kinds of arrows Yuu carries, two types are used for sealing jutsu. Using either a straight-shaft bolt or barbed arrow, he dips them in Kamizuru beeswax. The seal is carved into the shaft through the wax. He fills the arrow with specialized healing chakra before firing. Upon impact, the modified chakra will eject into the target's body, causing a dead numbing to radiate outward from the wound. This can allow for loss of body function depending on where it strikes, but also allows for no pain, meaning blood loss will easily occur if the enemy cannot feel the wound. The numbing effect wears off within minutes of the arrow being removed, however, if struck through a tenketsu, the modified numbing chakra will mix with the target's chakra system and spread much faster, while taking a much longer time to wear off. The straight-shaft bolts are designed to easily strike the tenketsu points, but are easily pulled out. The barbed arrows don't have such precision but cannot be pulled out without causing massive excessive damage.

Her knees bent, muscles tensing as she watched the male. Mud. Wet earth usually meant a trap to avoid, inconvenient but nothing she hadn't experienced firsthand before. Her eyes narrowed at the sight of blue fletching, chakra powering her limbs in preparation for the attack she knew would come. The moment his fingers started to release she bolted, darting to the side to avoid the arrow. Once the danger passed she slowed long enough to arm herself, twirling a pair of kunai around her fingers and molding chakra into them as she moved backward, keeping her eyes on him. Putting distance between them gave him the advantage and limited her options. Take cover at the cost of losing visibility or risk becoming a walking pincushion and return fire? Decisions, decisions. She let the blades fly, hands dipping into her holsters for replacements once they were free.
Shunshin [Body Flicker] D-rank|| Ninjutsu || Short to Mid-Range || Supplementary
A basic ninjutsu technique used across the eternity of the shinobi world. This technique allows the user to perform a single instance of high-speed movement, at velocities so extreme that to the untrained eye it appears as if the user teleports away. Skilled combatants are able to track the user's movements as long as they maintain a line of sight, and thus many combine this technique with some sort of distraction to alleviate this issue. SPECIAL NOTE: One cannot attack during this high-speed movement provided by this attack; they must first slow back down to their normal speed before taking any other actions. This movement occurs in a linear path over a distance of no greater than ten meters.
Bakuton: Toukai Yaiba [Blast Release: Destruction Blades] C-Rank || Ninjutsu || Bakuton || Short to Mid-Range || Offensive
The user infuses their projectile weapons with chakra before utilizing them in battle, the chakra within them detonating on impact. These weapons explode on contact with any target, be it organic or mineral, and can be used on opponents or to effect changes in the surrounding scenery. Depending on the number of weapons used at a time and the amount of chakra concentrated within them the explosions vary in intensity.
The second arrow was already nocked when she came out of her dodge, string pulled tight. However, the weapon loosened when he saw her raise her hand. Dodging to the side proved a narrow miss when the kunai whizzed by, embedding in the tree behind. What was thought to be a (mostly) harmless miss turned otherwise when they detonated behind him milliseconds after impact, the blast sending him stumbling forward. Rather than leaving himself open, Yuu took a potshot towards her with another blue numbing arrow. In all likelihood it would miss, but it would occupy her attention hopefully long enough to prepare for the next attack.

Shi aimed for the earth between them as she leapt to the right to stay well out of his shot, rushing toward him with chakra-powered limbs without any concern for the flying shrapnel cutting through her path. Even when the burst faded and her speed dropped she kept moving, intent on her target. She just needed one good shot...
This time Yuu didn't draw his bow, holding the blue arrow loose in the string. When she started running towards him a heartbeat passed when he rushed towards her as well, bent low. The five foot bow would be ample enough to sweep under her legs, and with a tackle he could stab the numbing arrow into one of her arms. Rendering one of her arms unable to move would mean she couldn't form two-handed seals. Was just a matter of whether or not she dodged him.

The target had similar plans. She could work with this. Her right hand gripped at his clothes as her left thrust past his head, the chakra that hummed just beneath the surface rushing outward with explosive force as her palm slammed against the feathered sticks protruding from his quiver. The stinging pain and pervasive spread of numbness that were rapidly making her left arm all but useless was a small price to pay to achieve her goal. Her jaw clenched and she shoved at the male with her good arm, a violent burst of concussive force bursting outward to make the task easier. She wanted him off.
The user releases explosive chakra from their palm to create a localized explosion. Best used to deflect projectiles, destroy bindings, or as a small controlled source of destruction.
A defensive Bakuton technique requiring no hand seals. The user releases explosive chakra from several points simultaneously, resulting in a concussive blast at which they are the center. Essentially a larger scale version of [Bakuretsu Hirate], allowing the user to propel objects and enemies within the immediate vicinity away via the concussive force of the blast. Cons: This technique lacks the precision of [Bakuretsu Hirate], the broad application of force making larger objects (the human body for example) easier to blow away than smaller ones. As such, it's an ineffective defense against projectiles. The blast is indiscriminate, affecting anyone in the surrounding area, friend and foe alike. As the blast is low-level and concussive in nature, it does little in the way of actual damage. The worst it can do is throw an opponent, which, while an effective defense when under threat of being overpowered, is far from the most dangerous application of explosive chakra.
Unable to stop, Yuu had a pretty good idea something bad was about to happen when Shi's arm went passed his head as he brought her down. The loud pop in his ear, accompanied by a terrible ringing, with the sound of shattering wood verifying that. Before the medic even had the chance to curse he found himself propelled away from her body—hadn't he blocked her from using jutsu?—and slightly airborne.
There was a grunt of pain when he hit the ground, skidding in the mud. The destroyed quiver's strap snapped on impact, rolling out underneath him as he skid. Before Shi could even properly sit up, he whipped the bow around, holding it by the very end, the other end connecting with her head. He didn't particularly know her next move so a momentary stun was enough to get himself on his feet. Holding the recurve in both hands, he jumped at her, ramming the round end of it into her diaphragm. Moving back away from her, he held the bow in front of him. Without ammunition the bow would be a hinderance. He could deflect physical blows with it, but not projectiles; he wasn't that talented.
With annoyance he tossed the now-useless stick of wood. Her physical attacks consisted of instant explosions. Her ranged attacks consisted of explosions. From the conversation over dinner he knew she also fought with poisons. If she got close to him now, even handicapped by the deadened arm, he'd have a pretty good chance of being taken down. Assuming she got off the ground.
“And here I thought a Bakuton user would be a threat against a simple medic archer,” said Yuu, a little louder than necessary thanks to the deafening ringing in the right ear. By the tail end of the taunt his hands were moving, and his hands slammed into the increasingly muddy earth, sending a linear attack of spikes towards her. Dodge this... Doton: Doryūsō [Earth Style: Earth Flow Spears] C-Rank|| Ninjutsu || Earth || Short-Mid Range || Offensive This technique lets the user condense mud or stone from the ground and shape it into spikes that protrude from the ground in order to skewer the target. The spikes cannot penetrate targets of greater density.

Breath hissed through her teeth as she rolled, climbing to her feet. Violet eyes narrowed when his hands started to move. Damn it. She shoved aside the pain in her abdomen as she fled from the path of the spikes. She pushed away from the ground, catching on the bark of the tree and climbing up the trunk. Breathe deep. Focus. Control. Dark eyes narrowed as she glanced toward the male, calculating her next target. The primary objective of disarming the male had been achieved. Basic projectiles were not a concern; blades were nothing new to her. Her left arm was useless, and she had access to only one holster. Eight kunai, twenty shuriken, and one working arm. A challenge.
She leapt from the trunk toward the male, drawing a trio of shuriken from her thigh and letting them fly without bothering to waste chakra on them. Conserve energy. Wait for the opportune moment to strike. He wanted a threat. He would have one.
Kinobori no Waza (Act of Tree Climbing) You know damn well what it does.
The movement to his right indicated she had, indeed, dodged. Alighting to a tree and moving up it, Yuu found himself in an unfavorable position when she leapt towards him. Quickly he fetched a kunai from his holster when the shuriken flew, but upon remembering the last projectiles she threw at him exploded, he dove to cover behind the earth spikes of his previous jutsu. However, when the woman landed where he'd stood moments before, he realized very quickly he was shit out of luck.

Her weight shifted, her boot slamming toward his abdomen. Turnabout was an excellent place to start. Her lips quirked as she removed a kunai from it's place in her holster, twirling it once as she shifted her weight, aiming the next kick toward his face. Her grip on the handle tightened marginally when his arm lifted to protect himself and she dropped to a knee, stabbing the meticulously sharpened blade into the male's tense forearm, twisting casually.
Without time or room to dodge, the wind was knocked out of Yuu when the Bakuton user slammed her foot into his gut. Without even thinking he blocked the second kick with his arm, only to be met with pain. The resulting cry was distinctly feminine, blade running all the way through and out the other side. There was another loud yelp when she twisted it, and Yuu yanked his arm hard. More pain when the blade scraped the bones in the forearm, but he'd successfully torn it from his opponent. Kicking her foot from under her, Yuu scrambled to his feet and fled.
Reaching the area where the fight started, he retrieved an arrow that had survived; the one he'd hit Shi with in the first place. Charging it with chakra, he stabbed it into the injured arm. The numbing was instantaneous. The arm was useless. May as well not let the pain get in the way. Throwing it aside he gripped the freely bleeding wound, backing away and over the original mud pit, which should have been deep enough to catch her feet. Tripping her up in it would be his only salvation; the blood seeped through his fingers and would make the grip on the shuriken difficult when she was stuck. But throwing all of them would cause damage. He would be out of tricks if that didn't work.
