After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
It was getting dark and late in the village of Iwakagure and one shinobi was racing down the streets with a bag in hand. He was starting to run late and if he arrived late he knew he would never hear the end of it, time to put all that ninja training into action. From the streets he jumped onto some of the village rooftops and hopped across them one by one until he saw his destination in sight. He soon came into the part of the village that belonged to a certain bee caring clan and stopped right at the door of a certain one. Not even bothering to knock he flung the door open with the bag of steaks held high. "HEY YUU I'M HERE! BROUGHT SOME GOOD MEATS TOO!"
Yuu winced from the kitchen when he heard his door slam against the wall. That boy never learned, did he? The dent from the last time still hadn't been patched yet.
“Mutt! For the hundredth time, knock!”
Pushing away from the sink, Yuu wiped his hands dry on a dishtowel, emerging from the kitchen in a loose tee and slacks. Miraculously—no, really, he needed a camera—his old teammate had arrived fully-clothed. But, the point of interest was not the male himself, but the red sack of meat he held overhead. Yuu accepted this as a peace offering, and the new dent in the wall was automatically forgiven.
“Little late now, but come on in. I just finished the dishes, so we should be able to cook it.”
I say we but what I really mean is you. Yuu couldn't cook. It must have been a genetic defect, because Kyo couldn't cook either. The siblings put together couldn't fry an egg in the heat of the fire itself. Taking the meat from his guest, Yuu closed the door. It had been a good while since he and Okami had shared quality time together, so he'd invited the blonde over. Omaki, aware he'd be food-poisoned if he left the Kamizuru up to the dinner plans, had offered to bring food, a mutually agreeable option.
“You want anything with it? I've got... stuff in cans... and... rice. Fruit too.”
Yuu then decided that he ought to check what “stuff in cans” he had, really.
"Oops. Sorry!" the blonde said as he slowly closed the door behind him, looking at the second dent he added to his friend's wall. Guess all that mimicking Mao's training methods was starting to pay off. As he walked in he placed the meat in the kitchen as he got a look around Yuu's home to try and remember if it was the same as the last time he had been here, so far things looked the same. As he stared at the place his focus was soon brought to the mention of food and cooking brought his focus back to his friend. Shit that's right he would have to help with the cooking, otherwise they would be eating burnt steak and no one wanted that.
"If you got some fruit I'll take some of that, been craving something a little juicy all day." he said as he set up the stuff to cook it, "Hey your brother around or is he out? Don't think I've seen him in a while too." He said as he turned on the stove and let the meat sizzle for a bit.
"If you got some fruit I'll take some of that, been craving something a little juicy all day."
With a nod Yu followed his guest to the kitchen, heading for the refrigerator to see what was in there. Raspberries, and pears. Both of those sounded like good options, so Yuu withdrew three pears and the small tub of raspberries, crouching to grab a bowl and keeping out of the wolf-boy's way.
"Hey your brother around or is he out? Don't think I've seen him in a while too."
Yuu looked up from slicing the pears into the bowl.
“Kyo doesn't live with me, he never did. Though he's around often enough that you'd think so, right?” the medic laughed. “He's out on some odd job requested by a civilian.”
The foreign sound of the meat sizzling was like beautiful music, the smell beginning to accompany it only enhancing the effect. Too bad for you, Kyo. The twins often ate dinner together, yet somehow the better food always came when Kyo was missing.
“And how are you doing?” Yuu asked, a half-smile on his lips as he sliced the pears. “Met any cute boys lately?”

"Oh you two don't share the place? Yeah you really could have fooled me. So you live by yourself huh? Aside from Kyo you ever get lonely?" he asked as he kept his eyes on the meat as it cooked, flipping it over so that it was nice and even when it was finished. When the question about cute boy's was asked a hint of red applied to Okami's face. "Well...I did see one, but he's always around other people so I can't ask privately, plus I'm not even sure he plays for that team, its not like we wear a sign stating it you know." The smell of meat was starting to get to him as he flipped it once again. "Meat's almost done, how about you? Life been treating ya well Yuu?" He asked, knowing he hasn't spoken a lot with his friend in recent days and also turned the stove off as the meat was finished cooking to perfection.
"Oh you two don't share the place? Yeah you really could have fooled me. So you live by yourself huh? Aside from Kyo you ever get lonely?"
“Mhm,” Yuu confirmed, carefully adjusting the pear in his bad hand to continue slicing. It does get lonely. That's why Kyo comes over so often. But... it's kind of easier for me to live on my own, you know? With... the things I have to deal with.”
Crossing his arm over his chest for emphasis on things, the medic set aside the core, cracking open the raspberry container to sprinkle them into the bowl of sliced pears.
"Well..” Yuu looked back when the male begun answering the question. He really needed to find someone already, poor pup. “I did see one, but he's always around other people so I can't ask privately, plus I'm not even sure he plays for that team, its not like we wear a sign stating it you know."
“Oh, I know all too well.” Yuu had a similar problem, himself. “Give me his name, maybe I can ask him for you some time. ♪”
It really would be a hell of a question to ask someone, especially for Yuu, but thanks to past incidents, he owed the blond a favor. Even if it meant going in red-faced with the cliché “Well, you see, I have this friend...”
"Meat's almost done, how about you? Life been treating ya well Yuu?"
Yuu flexed the fingers of his left hand at the question. He wasn't wearing his sling the way he should have been, but the length of the forearm was still wrapped in a support cloth bandage.
“Well, let's see. Recently the girl I like, remember Shi? We sparred and she speared my arm, severing most of the hypothenar and extensor... the muscles that make my hand and fingers move.” Yuu recognized that look of “english, please.” He held his arm up, looking at it. “I can finally hold things again but I can't grip worth a damn or lift things with handles. Oh, and she pilfered my bow and won't give it back until I can hold it again. Other than that, I've been great.”
Really, the literal only thing that bothered the medic about the whole affair was his bow being stolen, even if he couldn't use it. He'd rather watch it collect dust within his own home than it be out of sight. Yuu kind of felt naked the last two weeks, without his bow and quiver, which had also been entirely obliterated in the spar. Unable to talk to her in so long, and their first get together involved sharing dinner, while the second involved impalement, explosions, mud, patch jobs, and theft. Great start to any healthy relationship, really.
Taking the bowl, Yuu carried it to the small table outside of the kitchen, rather excited for the meal. He hadn't had meat in a while, not unless it came from a restaurant.
“Done anything interesting, lately?”

He wanted to give him the name of the guy he had a crush on? He wasn't going to pull some sort of ANBU stuff was he? "Hikari, at least that's all I know, don't know if he's in a clan or anything, like I said hangs around too many people to talk privately. He's about...my height, maybe an inch or two shorter, and has light brown hair, and green eyes I think." Okami said as he recounted the details of his "crush" to his friend. "Don't do anything to scare him alright? Or I'll bite you." And not in the playful kind of way.
Soon he served the meat on a plate and cut it up into equal portions for the two of them. All while listening to Yuu's poor story of how he not only got literally hurt by his own crush and was robbed by them as well. Talk about bummers. "You know I could always go and steal it back for you, I mean I may have to dirty my hands but, she did kinda rob you just because you couldn't move because of her. Isn't it only right that she get some karma coming her way?"
"Hikari, at least that's all I know, don't know if he's in a clan or anything, like I said hangs around too many people to talk privately. He's about...my height, maybe an inch or two shorter, and has light brown hair, and green eyes I think."
Yuu hummed at the description, running through the files in his head that matched that physical description. The clinic he worked at during the days was more of a family branch loosely connected to the Iwagakure hospital rather than being a part of the main hub. Still, a fair number came through, and because of his access to files, Yuu could probably pull up a file of a brown-haired, green-eyed Hikari. With his arm out of commission, it wasn't like Yuu had much better things he could be doing.
"Don't do anything to scare him alright? Or I'll bite you."
“Scare him? Me? Surely you have the wrong Kamizuru. And if you bite me, my bite stings a whole lot worse and I don't play nice.”
The medic flicked his friend in the forehead to illustrate his point, passing to fetch some cups for drinks. Yuu had brought home strawberry milk earlier in the day, planning on inviting Okami over, knowing it was the blonde's favorite. Carrying the empty cups in the bad hand and the jug in the other, Yuu seated himself in the chair adjacent to the blond, thanking him for the meal.
"You know I could always go and steal it back for you, I mean I may have to dirty my hands but, she did kinda rob you just because you couldn't move because of her. Isn't it only right that she get some karma coming her way?"
Yuu laughed.
“She might blow you to the moon if you break into her home. Don't worry about it, I can handle it. I can't use my bow right now anyway, so I don't need to get it back yet. I will be fetching it as soon as I can keep a grip on something, though. I won't lose the next spar.”
The meat was delicious. Yuu needed to make it a point to invite Okami over more often. It was a nice change of pace from instant ramen and minute rice.
“I heard you've been practicing taijutsu with Maou. How's he treating you? A good teacher at all?”
Once Yuu's arm was back in functioning order, he would consider learning taijutsu himself. It wasn't that he was weak; part of medic training required being able to carry dead, heavy weight a significant distance to a safe place swiftly. But he couldn't apply that strength in combat without significant guidance, and even then, Yuu was built for staying far, far away from the enemy and bringing them down before he would even need to think about hand-to-hand. That wouldn't save him forever, though.

"Hey I can handle myself alright. I mean you remember that spar we had? I got ya shaking in yer boots during that." he said as he served them their meals and poured himself some strawberry milk. While true he might not be as physically strong as other Shinobi out there that didn't mean he was weak in that department, heck just like Yuu mentioned he had bugged Mao into helping him out and increase his overall strength. "Mhm, its been pretty good so far, only managed to really bruise up my ribs lately. Actually planning on challenging him to an arm wrestling match to see if any of it has helped." he said casually as he finished up his food. "You think I got a good shot at it?" he said as he lifted up his sleeved and flexed his right arm to show his bicep to his friend with a big smile on his face, he sure seemed driven to beat their hulk of a friend.
"Hey I can handle myself alright. I mean you remember that spar we had? I got ya shaking in yer boots during that."
“That would require me having boots to shake in.” Yuu replied with a smirk.
That had been a tough spar, though. One of these days Yuu needed to challenge Okami to a straight up taijutsu-only spar. Although, Yuu had a pretty good idea of which one of them would win in a straight-up brawl, and it wouldn't be the guy in the glasses. Still.
"Mhm, its been pretty good so far, only managed to really bruise up my ribs lately. Actually planning on challenging him to an arm wrestling match to see if any of it has helped."
Arm wrestling.
"You think I got a good shot at it?"
Yuu covered his mouth, failing to conceal the amused giggle at the display.
“Sure. I'll put my bets on you, no way you'll lose.”
The mental image of it alone was enough to ensure Yuu would make himself present for this nonsense.
“Invite me along when you do it, I wanna see the match. I'll even offer my moral support: loser gets a home-made lunch by me,” he said with a grin. Both boys knew that even a half-starved mutt wouldn't touch the medic's cooking. “I've been bored out of my mind lately, since I can't work.”
WORD COUNT | 229 TAGS | Sakaki Okami ADDL. NOTES | Great chance to bring up the sign-stealing nonsense. XD Or start into it.
He knew that the guy was being a bit sarcastic about the idea of an arm wrestling match, but it was nice that he actually said those words. He knew his chances of even beating Mao at one were really slim. He'd probably break his arm, and speaking of broken arms. "Sure I'll bring ya along, will probably need you for when one of us breaks the other's arm. Speaking of which can't you just use some medical voodoo and fix your arm up? I mean you are a medical ninja after and what kind of medic can't heal themselves?"
"Sure I'll bring ya along, will probably need you for when one of us breaks the other's arm. Speaking of which can't you just use some medical voodoo and fix your arm up? I mean you are a medical ninja after and what kind of medic can't heal themselves?"
Yuu smiled, curling his fingers around his knife.
“It's not “voodoo,” Okami. Medics aren't made of magic. If we were, you wouldn't really need hospitals, then. The flesh is mended, but the strength isn't. Ever dislocated your shoulder? Just because you put the shoulder back in place doesn't mean your arm is just like new, you know? There are some pretty high level jutsu that can do that... but, well, I'm just an apprentice...”
There were a lot of medics that were better than Yuu, but Yuu wanted to get a lot better. Perhaps he just needed more practice.
“How's your crystal training going? Gotten any better at controlling your chakra?”
WORD COUNT | 160 TAGS | Sakaki Okami ADDL. NOTES | ಥ_ಥ Omg Okami trying to flirt with Yuu... “Okay, pretend I'm Hikari and ask me out. I'll tell you if it will work or not.” … *bitchslap* “wtf is wrong with you. Stay single FOREVER.”
"Medical ninjutsu, magic, voodoo, sacrificial rituals its all the same thing isn't it? But if you say its ninjutsu then whatever, so you can mend bones but not the pain huh, don't they have like pain pills for that?" Okami said as he picked up the dirty dishes and took them to the sink and soaked them in water while Yuu asked him about his special training. "Oh that. Yeah I've been practicing, managed to at least make some decent crystal shuriken without any effort," he said with a proud smile, "And speaking of practice, you'e had crushes before right? Do you know any dating advice I could use?"
"Medical ninjutsu, magic, voodoo, sacrificial rituals—" Oh he did not just say “sacrificial rituals.” "—its all the same thing isn't it?" He did. "But if you say its ninjutsu then whatever, so you can mend bones but not the pain huh, don't they have like pain pills for that?"
Yuu had to try very, very hard not to laugh. Knucklehead.
“More that I just need to build the strength back into the repaired muscles or I'll tear them easily and I'll need to have my arm in a sling even longer. The muscles are weak and that's why I can't grip things well, not really because of pain. I ought to get a stress ball. And yea, there are plenty of pills for that~”
It was good to hear he was getting better with his crystal. On a shelf in the living room sat a crystal shuriken Yuu had filched in a spar long ago, helping Okami curb his chakra use. He'd initially taken it because of his interest in bloodlines, but he kept it cus it was pretty.
"And speaking of practice, you've had crushes before right? Do you know any dating advice I could use?"
An image of Shi floated across the Kamizuru's mind.
“Uhm.” Then an image of her and him sharing dinner. “Yeah, I have.” Because his brother threatened Yuu if he didn't go out and talk to her across the street. “A little push helps, but...” Then the spar. “...I'm not sure...” Getting stabbed through the arm. “...if I can give the best advice.” And then the lovely affair of getting her to help him put everything back together and getting his belongings either destroyed or stolen.
Yuu stood from the table, pushing the chair in, and massaged the sore arm in thought. Surely there's something...
“Oh!” he brightened, having an idea. “Why don't you practice on me? Pretend I'm Hikari, and you finally got me away from my group of friends.”
Thankfully, Yuu was used to odd antics from the other male, because who knew what Okami would do. However, Yuu could at least know what would or wouldn't work, even if he didn't have the best advice.

Most of the medical talk went over the dog's ears as he mainly got the gist of it, the guy couldn't do anything for himself, poor medic. Okami should probably bring him some sort of stress ball to have around, those things really helped according to some of the other shinobi he's worked with, plus they're sort of fun to play with. It wasn't long before he heard Yuu reply to his question about advice, if he was a dog right now his ears would have been twitching.
"So you want me to practice on you? I guess we could do that." the blonde said as he sat across from Yuu and tried to imagine him as his little crush. "So Hikari-kun, I was wondering if maybe you would join me for a bit of afternoon fun~? We could go have a nice snack and maybe do some mountain climbing if your into that, or maybe we can spend some, quality time?" the blonde said with charisma and a face that could make a fangirl swoon.
