After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
Just because Yuu's arm was getting better (he no longer needed a sling), it did not mean his boredom was alleviated. He would work at the clinic again, but was still on leave from official jobs. May as well be productive. So, Yuu had come to Maou. Okami had been getting taijutsu practice from him, so, why not? Without his bow, Yuu needed to get a little hand-to-hand, in case it came down to a match to retrieve it from the girl who'd taken it. As well as the fact he needed a little more defense when it came to close-combat.
Still, when he reached the training field and looked across at his training partner, well... part of Yuu thought maybe, maybe things wouldn't go so well, for a multitude of reasons. He'd seen the male fight, sometimes he got lost in the heat of the battle, and his taijutsu power was absolutely devastating. Yuu always kept his supplies on-hand for training, so that, at least, was of some solace should things go awry.
“So what do I do?"
WORD COUNT | 179 TAGS | Maō ADDL. NOTES | Sorta flashbacked then met him there, as requested.
So there he was minding his own business, and who should show up out of the woodwork then the weirdly boner giving male, Yuu-kun. Say hi then Maou, or not as he was in his own world, humming a sort of tune that he heard the last time he was able to leave from this village. It was a shindig in another village, a festival celebrating some sort of deity or something. Anyway that tune was catchy, so catchy that it had been weeks since it entered his ears, and it hadn't left since. Bobbing his head to the beat of his own thoughts, their came Yuu-kun asking a question that had finally caught the attention of the not-so-musically-inclined shinobi. His eyes were closed of course he didn't see him, not like he had that weird as Byakugan from those leaf shinobi, he knew a few ways he could use that power though, hehe...
"Stop asking dumb questions, first."
He crossed his arms as his eyes finally opened, a hint of being tired from his constant hard training had led to irritation it would seem. But he didn't mean anything by it, a large yawn exiting from his mouth chomping down on the air as he scratched the back of his head and went to Yuu's side as he started to poke and prod him, looking for what could be some source of information. Taijutsu wasn't just random kicking and punching. It depended on the person's body and training, and Yuu wasn't very fit (well as fit as he was anyway, though he was obsessed with training) and thus decided to allow some leeway in his processing a decent training. Wasn't he so nice, it would still be very difficult, cause that's how he did things.
"So your body, it's basically stick and bones, the only real "fat" you have are your breasts... What I'm going to do is make you capable of at least defending yourself in a combat scenario in close combat, Yuu... why is it important? Because chakra runs out, and opponents outsmart ya, you're pretty clever, but their's always someone better, and their are a great lack of martially inclined ninja, wishing to use ninjutsu or genjutsu because they prefer battles or range and tactic, taijutsu can have those things, but usually, it's about how you strike rather than what you have in an arsenal."
Grasping Yuu's arms, he elevated them and moved his hands into an orthodox stance, and then slid his left leg and foot forward. This was an orthodox stance. But he was so rough and pushy, but that was his thing to begin with. He didn't like explaining, showing was more his forte because it was also how he learned to throw his first punch. Naturally capable and very coordinated, it wasn't like he was sitting on his ass or just practicing the same shit over and over.
"Keep your dominate hand forward, and your recessive hand back, keep your stance forward and make sure your stance is secure."
Maou was to the point, for whatever reason it was just common knowledge for most taijutsu users, unless they were flashy morons. He was also something a genius in Iwagakure, for his age anyway. He knew everything about taijutsu, even studying the styles of the Hyuuga and understanding and deciphering their abilities. Too bad he couldn't understand tact and "elegance", but he knew him some fighting skills. Either way, a strong fist, and a better technique were the true fundamentals of any martial artist. Or so he believed.
Yuu huffed, trying to whitewash the cacophony of his friend's singing from his brain. The medic took a half-step back when Maou came right up, squirming at the poking and prodding, not especially liking where some of those pokes were prodding.
"So your body, it's basically stick and bones, the only real "fat" you have are your breasts...” What. "What I'm going to do is make you capable of at least defending yourself in a combat scenario in close combat, Yuu... why is it important? Because chakra runs out, and opponents outsmart ya, you're pretty clever, but there’s always someone better, and there are a great lack of martially inclined ninja, wishing to use ninjutsu or genjutsu because they prefer battles or range and tactic, taijutsu can have those things, but usually, it's about how you strike rather than what you have in an arsenal."
There was a grunt of annoyance, but instead of talk, Yuu focused on the way Maou yanked his body about, ascertaining the correct position he should be in. The grip was rough and movements jarring, but the chuunin knew the other male knew what he was doing. Of course, Maou could just be posing him like a doll for fun for all Yuu knew about taijutsu stances.
"Keep your dominant hand forward, and your recessive hand back, keep your stance forward and make sure your stance is secure."
“Right...” Yuu said, shifting his position to get a good feel for the stance. He did feel more grounded...
"Now, try to throw a jab."
Here's to the fat breasts comment.
“Roger!”
Mustering all the might he could, Yuu threw a punch into Maou's chest.
WORD COUNT | 283 TAGS | Maō ADDL. NOTES | OHMYGOD THE RED IT BURNS IT BUUUUUURNS. Your they're/their/there will drive me crazy. Also this is literally the first time in years I've done taijutus. #rangedfightingforlife
The gauntlet was thrown as she aimed the jab towards him, he also punched forward quickly, within a split-second of that arm extending. Yeah, Maou was something of a sadist in that realm of expertise, aiming to punch him in the face with that exceptional quickness of his own jab. But here was the thing, that speed wasn't just some sort of convoluted way to pick at Yuu... at least a little bit. It was also to help. The jab wouldn't do too much damage, only knocking him in the head with a tap of his knuckles, it wouldn't bruise a bit, not break the skin if it hit.
"If my jab reached you, that means that you threw it too slowly, the extension of the jab comes from your hips, that's why as you move forward don't just throw the punch, motion your entire body moving through the extension of your big toe, and then the bottom of your foot, then as that happens, rotate your hips and that should produce a greater sharpness in your form."
What could he say, the man was taught by an amazonian, she was sadistic, cruel, and uncaring, she was... his mom. Those methods were beaten into him, and should he die from the excessive force she produced from her own attacks, he would of been in a grave and she probably would have slept just as well, because she didn't like her son being a weakling. Oh his mother, how he loved her maternal instincts to punch him each time he lacked the depth to see through her attacks, how her string of teachings were both spartan and draconian. But he learned didn't he, and he was a force to be reckoned with against most opponents in a fist fight, true story, bro.
Anyway, Maou had gotten into the same position, Yuu had, making sure he would see. He extended his fist without hesitation, as the sharpness swept through the atmosphere, the wind and sharpness made a keen whistling sound, much like a high-pitched bird's mating song. That sound was what differed through it all, it meant that not only was it precise, but also dangerous to be struck with. Literally, the young taijutsu expert had torn clean holes through tree trunks, and boulders with that punch. He didn't like his form to be unclean, it was like he wished it to be the greatest killing weapon. An arsenal that he could always count on against any enemy. He didn't need silly ninjutsu or genjutsu to win, his strongest punch and greatest kick's had those bases covered.
Back to this, with that jab, it was somewhat hard to see, it was a clean jab, the form and extension were from the shoulder as well as the hips and wrist, rotating inwardly to give it a bit more oomph.
"I practice my jab and straight combos two-thousand times every day even on a day of rest, before I get to the other work outs, so I have that force because I've stayed keen on my training. But that's not all, perfection in form is important. You won't be as good as me, but if you build on at least three-hundred combinations of a one-two, you will have the ability to be precise, hitting an opponent's vital points, the nose, the cheek, the chin, and the eyes."
Yuu barely saw the hand go towards his face before Maou's knuckles collided with his forehead with a thunk. It wasn't a strong blow but it still jarred him back. Shaking his head and pulling out of his failed punch to rub his forehead, Yuu nodded at the instructions he was given.
“Got it.”
Reaching behind his neck, the medic untied the hitai-ate, tying it in place around his forehead and ruffling the hair out around it. In proper battle he'd have been wearing it anyway, may as well wear it here. The next punch may not be pulled so softly. He mirrored Maou when the taijutsu-user went into the stance he'd shown him, but when the larger male extended his arm forward,Yuu simply watched rather than mimicking. Maou was on an entirely different level, but then, that was why he came here, wasn't it?
"I practice my jab and straight combos two-thousand times every day even on a day of rest, before I get to the other work outs, so I have that force because I've stayed keen on my training.” T-two thousand... “But that's not all, perfection in form is important. You won't be as good as me, but if you build on at least three-hundred combinations of a one-two, you will have the ability to be precise, hitting an opponent's vital points, the nose, the cheek, the chin, and the eyes."
Th-three hundred combinations of a “one-two?” How on earth were there that many ways to add them together!? Yuu knew there were plenty of other vital points that could be hit, like the gullet and various pressure points, but he wasn't the teacher here. Just hitting any of the marks would be remarkable for the moment.
“Like this?” Yuu asked, trying to copy his teammate's fluid motion, albeit a lot slower to try and get a feel of the movements.
WORD COUNT | 315 TAGS | Maō ADDL. NOTES | Anyone else I'd reprimand for the pronoun slip, but since you're someone Yuu is close to, I'll let it slide.
"Don't ask, feel the movement, it should be natural..."
She was asking questions again, he didn't like answering questions and the look of seriousness on his face should have showed it. Maybe because he was more serious about his mastery of taijutsu and teaching it then anything else. Martial arts were his blood, his soul. He poured everything into them daily without hesitation and with no one telling him how he should go about it. He did complain to his mother while younger, but that was before his training in the forest, and before he truly understood what it was to be a person within a world full of questions. It was his means of existence, to become legendary as a fighter.
But Yuu didn't understand that, even with his skills in ninjutsu, he didn't practice or study it enough to be called devoted. But Maou didn't hold that against him, what kind of prick would he be should he do such a dumb thing. Maou was just more driven, and focused then your average person. It was both a good thing and a bad thing, often playful outside of his training, but within it completely different as a person.
"You unleash a strike that you feel is your own, every fighter is different, every person has their own ability as a martial artist, some don't have the ability to become one... Okami-kun for instance. Though he is interested in becoming a stronger martial artist, isn't motivated to train himself to a great extent. He does his own thing, and that is why... though he will get stronger, it will always be his weakest ability overall and he should stay his course as a mid-ranged combatant."
Maou knew what he was talking about. As said before, this art, his ability as a martial artist was his lifeline to existence.
"But you, Yuu-kun, have a knack for trying to your hearts content, to believe in your limits is to believe that you have them, focus on becoming eased into your martial arts and then understand your limits, but don't let them suppress your ability."
Maou had said this while once more placing himself back in stance and watching the horizon. A snuff from his nose, and an extension of his left fist at a break-neck pace would begin a combination of high-speed punches, from different angles and types. They were all the four-basic punches, but all of them were extremely sharp. As he stood in place, the air around them began to swirl with each and every combination finished. Not only that, each one gave off that same distinct whistle that he had made earlier, before creating a true sonic boom with the last straight punch.
"Know that if you devote yourself to this training regimen, you will become stronger, but taijutsu isn't something you can just quit when you wish to, it's an art that needs constant practice and whether you devote time to it after this training, is on you."
It was the truth, Maou never actually lied about anything, he was terrible at it. If Maou didn't want something known, he never said anything about it unless he wished to understand what everyone else thought about it. It was his way of keeping secrets.
"Don't ask, feel the movement, it should be natural..."
Natural. Right. The look on Maou's face prevented him from saying more, and the medic repeated the movement. He wasn't being told he was doing wrong, so he must have been doing it right. Yuu switched hands and practiced with throwing the left when Maou started talking about Okami, muscles in his forearm straining a bit from the thrust. That was to be expected at least.
“Okami is good at what he does.”
Yuu pulled out of the stance when Maou spoke again.
"But you, Yuu-kun, have a knack for trying to your heart's content, to believe in your limits is to believe that you have them, focus on becoming eased into your martial arts and then understand your limits, but don't let them suppress your ability."
“Thanks!” he said, a touch happier with the compliment.
When Maou took stance again, Yuu mirrored, hardly able to see the punches the larger male threw. Watching for a few long moments, he tried the movements himself, feeling like this would be easier if there was a target to hit instead of just the air.
However, the practice slowed as Maou sped up his practice, and Yuu put a little more space between them when the air itself started warping around the other male's fists. He was an impressive fighter, and the last thrust made his eardrums shake.
"Know that if you devote yourself to this training regimen, you will become stronger, but taijutsu isn't something you can just quit when you wish to, it's an art that needs constant practice and whether you devote time to it after this training, is on you."
“Devote myself to punching the air... doesn't sound so hard,” Yuu said, trying to mimic the movements. Creating a sonic boom with just your hands with be completely badass, but not something Yuu could ever hope to accomplish.
WORD COUNT | 318 TAGS | Maō ADDL. NOTES | Yuu's secondary path is ninjutsu, may be why he isn't devoted. His devotion is in his seals~ Also ilu for changing your red.
"It doesn't matter if Okami is good at what he does, if he doesn't practice it whole-heartedly, there's only so far you can get in this world without training, unless you have natural talent, but hard-work is the number one priority."
Even with his natural abilities borne from two strong specimens such as his parents, his mother had always taught him to be strong by training and not by raw talent. He followed her words as if a law, he needed that law to guide him through life. Maou was adamant that hardwork beat anything "talent-wise" because you understood your limits better when you work harder, and usually those who relied on their abilities had no understanding of what they were limited to. By working hard one could hope to surpass those limits, because once more training was absolutely necessary. It was the reason he disliked bloodlimits to some extent, many felt as if they were a god-send with their "power" but in reality they were just dumbasses who couldn't understand the essence of being truly strong. Because true strength came from polishing one's talent and honing it to the utmost limits. But that was only his way of doing things.
"It wasn't really a compliment... but sure, take it like that."
The young man's words seemed more serious again. It didn't take long before the situation had taken another turn. As he watched him move forward with the two punches making every single punch count. He was slowly getting attuned to it. Maou wasn't someone to stand around. Gaining the rhythm of Yuu's extension, he moved in front of him again.
"OK then, let's see if you can understand your weaknesses with a bit more practice."
Maou made his orthodox stance, and then with every punch, would extend his fist at the exact same moment Yuu had. He was mirroring his movements down to the letter. It wasn't that difficult for him, he saw those movements in such slow motion, not that this was a serious ordeal though so Yuu wasn't truly "weak" in a sense. Left, right. One-two. Each time he saw an imperfection in said movement, he stopped his fist with his own knuckles and through interlocking their knuckles he would say...
"When you move your left arm, rotate it into the strike, and attack by twisting from the wrist, by doing this you not only give your jab a bit more power, it also becomes sharper, every punch needs to follow that format, your straights must as well, otherwise the impact won't have enough force to take the enemy by surprise."
Understand my weaknesses, huh... Yuu knew there were plenty of those. Understanding what they were would probably help efforts to countering them, though. Out of the corner of his eye, Yuu could see Maou this time copying Yuu's movements. Compared to the punches the taijutsu user was throwing before, his movements now seemed slow and sluggish when matched up with his own tempo. How... discouraging. But Yuu didn't give up so easily, and continued punching at Thankfully, Maou provided him with one, positioning himself in front of the medic and mirroring the moves. Every time he messed up, Maou's larger hands would catch Yuu's fingers and stop the movement.
“Rotate, huh...”
Yuu pulled his right arm back, fisting it and turning the wrist. He then extended his arm in slow motion, feeling that movement. It felt a lot more fluid than trying to do a straight jab.
“I can do that,” he said, putting effort into getting each punch against his friend's knuckles right.
Straights, jabs, one-twos, Yuu didn't know a whole lot about taijutsu. It just wasn't one of the things that he studied. Medicine and seals took up the majority of his free time when he wasn't helping his clan out with the honey business. It wouldn't be hard to fit taijutsu training in. Yuu wasn't interested in becoming a master, he just didn't want to be so useless in that area. He'd been a liability before because of it. So it was about time he did something about it.
a man might befriend a wolf, even break a wolf, but no man could truly
tame a wolf
He had heard that both of his teammates were seen together which did not really sit well with the blonde. How dare they go off somewhere without inviting him! After all those times of getting to know each other, well mostly introductions, and they forgot about him?! Mao he understood since the two of them didn't really know much about each other, but Yuu? And here he thought that the special moment they shared trying to maim each other meant something."I swear when I find those two I'm-hm?"
Well he managed to catch up to them, only to find out that they were sparring? Well that was something he wasn't really expecting, but still it wouldn't have hurt to ask if he wanted to join in, the more the merrier after all. "So am I late the party guys? You know the one you started without me?" he said with a sarcastic smirk on his face.
This was taking too much time and effort, couldn't this guy just understand how to extend your arm for a punch. It was incredibly dull, the back and forth counteracting of their knuckles pushing into one another had given him something of a headache. So after Okami came into the picture, Maou's hands cruised through his hair, sighing heavily. He guessed that since he was a martial artist it was easier for him, he copied his mother's punching technique easily while young. So each punch for him was liable to knock one of his peers out, because form gave his strikes substance. But in this moment, Yuu with his constant banter of not understanding, or just doing things plain wrong, had given him something of an idea.
Turning his back to the both of them, before chuckling to himself, he looked back at the two.
"You know what, let's stop this and just, you know... fight."
That was his big plan, it wasn't that hard to understand, especially for a person as simplistic as him. Constantly having to fight gave him the instincts to move and dodge when he needed to. While he was within the wilderness, he had to hone his instincts or else he would be eaten or killed without an afterthought. The danger of such a situation though was the active thought of the two dying when facing him. After all, he was the physically best of the group, superior skills in taijutsu. They had their own abilities, but they couldn't use them well in close-quarters combat. Toughening them up was the way to go then, so why not do it?!
"You guys want to train, you want my help, right?"
He changed his tone into one of a sweet, whimsical one. Where would this lead later on?
"So am I late the party guys? You know the one you started without me?"
“Okami!” Yuu said breathlessly. Not only did the second male startle him, Yuu had been too focused on Maou's fists to even notice another person approaching. Now that was a bad thing; Okami wasn't exactly stealthy. Looking back to Maou, Yuu could see that telltale look of annoyance in his hazel eyes. There was an edge of disappointment when the uscular male turned his back. Was Yuu screwing up that badly?
"You know what, let's stop this and just, you know... fight."
“What.”
Oh that wouldn't end well at all.
"You guys want to train, you want my help, right?"
“Well...yes...”
"So come on, let's have some fun..."
The tone in Maou's voice made Yuu's odd-colored eyes narrow. Maou just wanted an excuse to pummel them. A large part of Yuu wanted to just walk away and find someone else who would be more forgiving. But that would essentially be giving up. Yuu had come to Maou for help, so he'd get help from him, regardless of the teaching methods. Yuu'd rather be taken down than give up the fight. With a sigh, the medic retreated to where his bag lay, shrugging off the short-sleeved sweatshirt and tossing it onto the bag. Ensuring the bandage wrap around his left arm was secure, the frameless glasses followed after, landing softly on the pile of cloth. Blinking once, then twice, to adjust to a world without corrective lenses, Yuu returned to where the other males were, shifting his weight with hands-on-hips.
a man might befriend a wolf, even break a wolf, but no man could truly
tame a wolf
Well now that was a quick change in Maou, so this was going to turn into one big braw now was it? Okami could get behind that, it would be nice to try and beat these two into the ground and show he was the top dog in this team. "Alright then, I'll start us off with a little target practice." the blonde said with a smirk as his hands got to work forming the hand signs for a familiar jutsu that Yuu should at least know about. Soon several, about ten, shuriken made of crystal began to form while spinning in the air around Okami which quickly split in two groups of five and were sent flying towards his two teammates.
As soon as he arrived, Okami was always up to his old tricks, always going off without understanding the surroundings, or even taking chances to deviate friend from foe. Or maybe he wanted payback for the ass-whooping given to him by Yuu, who cared really, since he was the one dong the training of the two "runts" he would be the one to call the shots here. Just as Okami's attack came, and if he would be allowed, he swept Yuu off his feet as he held him with both arms. But wait, how did he get their so fast, appearing in a location different from that which was the first. If this would work, he would set Yuu down, the instant he saw that he was out of danger. He would have to scold the "wolf" as well, for his misfiring.
"Calm the hell down, Okami... who said you could attack Yuu, you're giving away a very valuable teammate in this fight, and if you attack out of turn again, I'll punch you out."
It wasn't a boast, it was more like something he was going to do. Idle threats weren't his style, considering his brutal honesty at times, some people wished that he lied. It was also why a promise from him always held true if it could be helped by the fullest extent of his own ability. Right now, Okami was in his ire right now, and that wasn't a good thing.
"Don't start until I say, wrap your head around that for a bit, or go away and let me and Yuu train, either way... calm the fuck down."
The guy was like a raging fire, sometimes he died, but usually he was ablaze, and he didn't always think things through. It was both his gift and a curse to the team, and this young man right here knew that. That's why he stared directly into his eyes, that intimidation factor seething outward. Every intention set from the minuscule movements of both his muscles and veins pulsing, watching without batting an eyelash from Okami.
"Now, you two will fight against me, all your attacks will go against me, everything you have, will go against me... you fight me with all your strength or you learn nothing from this battle. Because I'm going to come at you with enough power to at least knock you the hell out, maybe not kill but your weekend and most of your next week will be gone, because of course, you learn nothing from a fight without something on the line, in this fight it'll be your flesh and bone, not necessarily your heart."
Rounding his shoulders left and right as he rotated his neck and head in two sweeps both clockwise and counter clockwise as he pressed both his hands outwards and clenched his fists. His eyes still didn't leave Okami.
Yuu didn't have a chance to respond, hell, barely had a chance to register Okami throwing weapons at him before his center of gravity disappeared completely, a small sound of surpise coming out at being lifted and relocated in seconds. Geez, Maou. I know how to dodge, Yuu thought as he was set back on his feet, adjusting the waistline of his shirt.
“Damn mutt, I'm not even armed.”
"Calm the hell down, Okami... who said you could attack Yuu, you're giving away a very valuable teammate in this fight, and if you attack out of turn again, I'll punch you out."
Yuu came here to practice throwing punches, not knives or jutsu, so hadn't brought any weapons along for the ride. This had been a taijutsu lesson. That was why the Kamizuru didn't intervene when Maou came down on the blonde, though he had to admit the taijutsu user was being a bit harsh. At the same time, though—wait, teammate?
“What?”
Without answer, Yuu watched as Maou continued to scold Okami.
"Don't start until I say, wrap your head around that for a bit, or go away and let me and Yuu train, either way... calm the fuck down."
“I think he gets it, Maou.”
Rather than defending him, it was more that the blonde looked ready to sock Maou, who would put Okami on his ass and not gently. Still... the larger male wanted Yuu and the crystal user to team up and fight against him? If it weren't for the fact Yuu had seen Maou fight in battle, he'd find that unfair, but at the same time without his bow, let alone any weapons, Yuu was going to be primarily useless in this fight. This should be fun.
“You could have at least taught me how to block,” Yuu muttered, just loud enough for both males to hear. Maou didn't even turn back to look back at him with the next words were spoken.
"Are we understood, you two?"
“Yea.”
Yuu was gonna be so screwed today.
