After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
It had been a long day filled with the exciting tales of the Tsuchikage and his battle against the horrendously villainous mountains of paper work that had piled up sky high in his office. He had been long searching for an excuse to put it off even longer than he already had, but no such solution came to him. Instead he only made things worse for himself and now he would likely be here for days on end just so that he could actually see people at the door when he was sitting on the other side of his damn desk. Better yet, how about clearing out the office enough to the point that he would actually be able to get out of the door. Yup. Open that door right now and likely there would be a paper-lanche. Yup. Fuck you paperwork.
So right now thanks to the ever so lovely mountains of paperwork that Chinatsu would be forced to scale, he and any of his assistants had to use the route going around to the outside balcony to get into his office. Sure it could be fun to go around that way, but it was also dangerous cause one wrong step and you were falling ten stories down to the ground where you would likely become the equivalent of a bug on the windshield, whatever that was. The thought of that happening to one of his assistants was enough to make the man shiver.
Chinatsu let out a sigh as he turned in his chair and set down his pen. His crimson gaze was set out of the window as he observed the nice weather with the fluffy white clouds drifting on the breeze and the vibrant oranges and red that painted the sky. Dusk was certainly a beautiful time, but it always made him wonder where the day went. Especially when he had been unable to make preparations for the arrival of someone that would be visiting their little hobble this evening. The white haired man shook his head before standing up from his chair and wandering to the window pane. He clasped his hands behind his back for a moment before hatching a plan. He would send Yuu to go greet this visitor. Yes, this person was here to meet those of her own kind after all, so why not send one of them? It was flawless. So Chinatsu wrote a small little note for his student, before creating a small clay carrier finch to go deliver it to him. It would be simple enough, right?
Go to the village gates where you will greet our guest from Kusagakure and show her around.

it's a starry starry night out here on hope street, paint my world in blue
The journey to Iwagakure no Sato had been long and difficult for the young girl. It had taken so much time and effort for her to convince the Kusakage that this wasn't just the whim of a stupid little girl, or a plot to run off and never come back. She'd shown her village's leader all the notes, including the one that simply named a village and a clan. She had begged and pleaded and yes, cried, and had finally received permission. The kage had deemed her competent enough to travel to the village on her own. Immediately after, she had gone home and penned a letter to add to the request her leader had to send to the leader of Iwagakure in order for her to obtain permission to go to the village. She had set out as soon as they had received the affirmative, with a big pack on her back and excitement in her eyes.
Chiyoko had dreamed about having a family her whole life, and now she was going to get to meet them at long last. Provided, of course, that the strange woman that had told her of the clan hadn't been lying. But why would she leave all those notes and be so helpful if she was just going to mislead her in the end? Surely there were better things to do with a person's time than crush the dreams of a fourteen year old girl. Besides, she had a feeling that she could trust the woman, Kayo, that everything she said was true. Chi didn't know why she felt so drawn to the woman, or how she could be so sure that she was trustworthy... But it was too late to turn back now.
Arriving outside the village gates at last, Chi couldn't help but be intimidated. What if she had gone through all this trouble to come and meet a family that wouldn't want anything to do with her? What if they didn't like her because she was from a different village, or because she didn't know who her parents were and therefore didn't know how she was related to the clan? Oh, she was so worried... But at least she would finally be among people that didn't look at her like she was a freak of nature. If she looked like this, her parents had to too, right? So surely the rest of this Kamizuru clan was like her.
Nervously, she approached the guard at the gate and handed over her identification papers and a document signed by the Tsuchikage that granted her, a foreign shinobi, the right to access the village. He scanned the papers, signed her in, and waved her through the gate. She sighed with relief. At least that had been simple.
Now she had to wait for her guide. Chi kept herself pressed close to the village wall, ears flattened, trying to avoid attracting attention with her strange features and Kusagakure headband. Hopefully, the guide would show up soon; she was beginning to feel a little sick to her stomach, and she noticed with a start that her hands were shaking.
Just a little longer and she would get to meet her family. Just a little bit longer...
It had been a long, tiring day. And expensive. Spending the day practicing taijutsu with Okami with the prize of the winner being treated to barbeque had been a good plan at the start, that was, unti Yuu had not been the last one standing. It was bizarre how much meat the wolf could pack away. That being said, the Kamizuru was trying to relax the day away, having just stepped into a hot bath. It was a shame the relaxation wouldn't last, however, because he was alerted to something coming through the cracked window overhead.
There was a twitch of irritation in Yuu's brow, but he still extended his hand to catch the familiar clay finch, retrieving the message within. “Go to the village gates where you will greet our guest from Kusagakure and show her around.” Really? Really. Even though the bird was not alive to begin with, the medic still attempted to drown it under the water until it stopped moving, and crushed the lifeless clay into a mutilated ball in his fist. Goddamnit, sensei. There went relaxing the work of the day off. With a sigh, the bath was cut short. At least he'd be nice and clean to greet the guest.
His usual clothes filthy from the training session, Yuu grabbed more casual ones, tightening the straps on his leather vest. Hopefully at this time of night, it was only to guide her to a place to sleep. With the turning of the seasons, the mountains were getting cooler, and Yuu grabbed his black cloak—a common garment for the males of the Kamizuru—along with his bow and quiver. He didn't like leaving the house without them, even if he didn't plan on using them. On that note, who knew what he actually needed to accomplish, so he grabbed his side bag as well. Pulling on his shoes, Yuu left with his proper longbow in hand.
The Tsuchikage could have at least provided a picture of who he was supposed to guide. It wasn't as if Yuu knew every face in Iwagakure; it was a huge village. So picking a stranger out at the gate might prove annoying. Not that he wasn't already annoyed. It took about ten minutes to reach the gate, Yuu not particularly in a rush but also not lagging behind. Slowing his pace once crossing the bridge that led to the main plaza where the gates were, Yuu's odd-colored eyes scanned the thin crowd behind frameless lenses, trying to identify his target. He realized who it was after a heartbeat. A small, blonde girl waiting near the station at the gate. If it had been anyone else, Yuu could have overlooked her. However, what caught his eye was not that she looked out of place, but that she looked like a different race.
The irritation he'd set out with was mingled with curiosity. Were those ears? They looked like a wolf... no, more like a cat's. Was she wearing a—oh my god they moved. Were those real? Another movement caught his eye, and for the first time he realized he was not the only one staring at the girl. Another moving appendage waved behind her; was that really a tail? This had to be the girl he was asked to guide. Yuu suddenly felt more forgiving to Chinatsu for interrupting what would have been a comfortable bath.
Moving closer, Yuu identified the headband she wore as not of Iwa, but of Kusa. Well. That aswered his question. Taking a breath to ward off any visible irritation that may have been left, Yuu directly approached the girl, waving with his free right hand to catch her attention.
“Hello... are you the girl from Kusa?” A rhetorical question perhaps, but it would tell her he was sent specifically to see her. “Welcome to Iwagakure. I am Kamizuru Yuu, and I will be your guide this evening.”
Yuu didn't play the role of guide too often, but he was suddenly feeling genuinely glad to have been picked, thus the smile when he greeted her was genuine as well. It would take a lot of willpower to not touch her though. The ears were so lifelike... and from what he could tell, she lacked in human ears, meaning the furred ones were the real deal. And not to mention that tail... did she have any other animalistic features? Was it a kekkei genkai? The result of experimentation? Maybe just a henge? So many questions bubbled in the young medic's mind and Yuu had to try so damn hard to not touch those ears.

She should be used to the stares by now. Everybody at home stared. Even the people she knew still stared when her ears flattened or her tail twitched, like the appendages made her some sort of being from another world - someone to poke and prod and do tests on, someone to make fun of, someone to look down on just 'cause she was different. Not all people were like that. But there were enough people that were that it still bothered her. Yeah, she was a little too emotionally fragile, she guessed - there were tons of people with worse problems than being stared at for looking different - but all the same, being part cat or whatever it was that she was didn't mean she wasn't human too. Chi didn't think that that was so easy to forget. Some people did.
It felt like she'd been waiting at the gate for an eternity, even though she knew it had only been a few minutes. Time passed slower than honey dripped off a spoon when she was nervous like this. She reached into the side pocket of her pack and pulled out a little strip of beef jerky. Chi had a tendency to grind her teeth when she was upset, and with pointed canines.. well, sometimes it could go bad. Thus she made a habit of keeping jerky in her pockets to nibble on. Plus, it was tasty. She had honey from the bees to dip it in, too, if she wanted to. The little guys were pretty generous with their golden bounty - she had an eight ounce jar of it in the bottom of her bag. Mmm.
Gnawing on the piece of jerky, Chi glanced around what bits of the village she could see from here. It was a whole lot different from Kusa, that was for sure. It was a lot less... well, green. She didn't know if she could ever live here after growing up in the lush fields of the grass village.
Finally, she was approached by a boy with really pretty hair and a snazzy hat. "Y-yes, that's me," Chiyoko confirmed, offering him a polite bow. Her ears perked up and she would swear her heart skipped a beat when he introduced himself as a Kamizuru. And then her face fell - for only a moment, though he was sure to have noticed. If he was a Kamizuru... why wasn't he like her? Was she really so much of a genetic freak that she didn't even resemble her own clan? It almost made her want to cry. But she schooled her face into a careful smile. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Chiyoko... Kamizuru Chiyoko."

"Y-yes, that's me,"
Yuu's gaze dropped to meet her azure eyes. The way she appeared crestfallen had him inclined to believe the girl wasn't exactly thrilled to have him as a guide. Perhaps she didn't like Kamizuru? Maybe it was the way he dressed, or looked. Who knew. Yuu just knew that she didn't appear happy.
"It's nice to meet you. I'm Chiyoko... Kamizuru Chiyoko."
Yuu blinked slowly, with a rather blank expression. This girl was one of his own? Looking over her features he really wanted to doubt her. He'd have known if someone in his clan were cat-like. In fact, Yuu felt a little insulted that she would throw his surname about easily only after just hearing it.
“Likewise, Chiyoko... I haven't seen you before. What made you come to Iwagakure?”
Perhaps he could flush some truth out of the child, and he stepped aside, gesturing for her to walk so they didn't loiter at the front gate.

He didn't seem all that thrilled to be her guide. Great. Was this going to be another person that was going to treat her like she was something less than human? Or was he going to do his best to ignore her while giving her the most brief tour he could? She was already regretting this trip; if all of her family was going to act this way, did she even want to meet them? Chi felt like she was going to be sick. This was already going nowhere near as well as she had hoped it would...
Hopefully he wouldn't notice the tears forming in the corners of her eyes.
"I-I... I grew up alone, as an orphan. Someone told me that if I came here, I-I could find my family." She paused, glancing down at the ground as they walked. "I was hoping I'd find a clan of people like me. Y'know... freaks. At least I wouldn't be the only one then." Her voice dropped to barely above a whisper; ears flattened, tail drug along the ground - already she looked quite defeated. "An' I wanted to learn more about the bees. I only summoned them once, but they seem really cool, a-and I don't wanna mess up and hurt them or something..."

"I-I... I grew up alone, as an orphan. Someone told me that if I came here, I-I could find my family."
Yuu watched her out of the corner of one blue eye. Either she was an exceptional liar, or she was telling the truth and he felt just a teensy bit bad.
"I was hoping I'd find a clan of people like me. Y'know... freaks. At least I wouldn't be the only one then."
This time he looked fully at her. If she considered herself a freak, that meant that cat-people weren't common in Kusagakure. But they weren't native to Iwagakure, either.
"An' I wanted to learn more about the bees. I only summoned them once, but they seem really cool, a-and I don't wanna mess up and hurt them or something..."
And Yuu was sold. Shifting his grip on his bow, he stopped walking.
“You don't look like a freak to me, you're just different.” He patted the girl on the head to reassure her, fingers tempted to stroke the fluffy ears on either side. “Different doesn't mean bad.” Yuu knew a lot about being “different.” “Is there anyplace you'd like to see or go? Perhaps you can show me your bees when we arrive.”

Chiyoko stopped short when Yuu did, glancing up at him in inquiry. "You're the only person that's ever said that to me," she murmured. How was it that a stranger could offer her kinder words than the people she'd known for her entire life? Such a strange world this was.
She leaned into his touch. It wasn't often that anyone wanted to get close enough to touch her, unless it was to flick her ears or pull her tail or something else equally mean, and that was sad. She wasn't exactly a cat, but that didn't mean she didn't want someone to stroke her ears. It felt nice. "Different's only bad when other people make it that way."
Chi pondered his question - and her stomach answered it for him. "Are there any good barbeque restaurants here? Or, or, do you have any food that can't be found anywhere else?" Sometimes her stomach did the thinking and the talking. And now she was thinking about meat. Warm, juicy, delicious meat... Mm. She licked her lips, tongue tracing the points of her canines. "Meat's my favorite food. All kinds of it."
Chinatsu sighed as he moved to sit back down behind his desk. It was no fair he wanted to be out there to greet this visitor as well. He wanted to tease her and poke some fun, not do paper work. He shook his head and leaned forward as he propped his elbows on his desk and held his head in his hands. He was going stir crazy from being cooped up in here, but there wasn't anything he could do about it. His cousin would kill him if he tried to bail. So he'd have to settle for that.
A laugh could be heard from off to the side of the conversation of the two Kamizuru. If they looked they would see the likeness of the Tsuchikage, Tsubasa Chinatsu, himself. Of course to the keen eye they'd notice it was merely a clay clone, but to most, it would appear as the real deal. "Yuu-kun I hope you've been making our guest feel welcome," the man laughed. As he placed a hand on his hip. He then looked to the pink haired girl, "I'd say it's a pleasure to meet you, but it wouldn't exactly be proper of me to do so. I'd say go visit the original sometime, but..." He turned to look towards the tall tower in the distance, "My office is over run with paper work and sadly I'm stuck there right now," 'Chinatsu' sighed and shrugged his shoulders as he looked back towards the other two. "I'm one of the clay clones that patrol around the village." He waved a hand outwards towards the village in general at this point and was about to say something when heard the girl's stomach rumble. He then chuckled again. "Hey why don't you go to Takaya Teriyaki? Oh! And take this with you. It'll put it on my tab. Just don't go crazy ok?"
If Yuu examined the item the clone has given him he would notice it was some sort of coin. An iconic coin known to be owned by the Tsuchikage, also known that he had multiple of them. It was a golden color with a square hole in the middle and an inscription along the side that when examined read, " 不幸の子用心Fukō no ko yōjin | Beware the Children of Misfortune."
"You're the only person that's ever said that to me,"
Yuu tilted his head at her.
“It's all about perspective. There are lots of ways to look at something; you just need to find the good side of it. It's how I get by.”
"Different's only bad when other people make it that way."
Yuu kept his hand on her head.
“A lot of people make it that way. Most people don't like people that are different from themselves.”
He almost couldn't resist the urge to stroke one of her ears when she leaned into his hand.
"Are there any good barbeque restaurants here? Or, or, do you have any food that can't be found anywhere else? Meat's my favorite food. All kinds of it."
Yuu felt his stomach drop and lowered his hand. He'd already emptied his wallet today feeding himself and the wolf at a barbeque place. Going back again for dinner sounded a bit... well, yuck. Hopefully she wouldn't expect him to pay for her; he needed to withdraw more money from savings as the medic didn't like to carry too much around at once.
“Well... if you want barbeque...”
Yuu trailed off, noticing a familiar presence nearby. He looked over in time to see the Tsuchikage himself laugh. Or at least, a likeness of him. Years of tutelage under Tsubasa Chinatsu allowed Yuu to see the difference between a clone of clay and the real deal. And speaking of clay, a streak of irritation crossed Yuu's face as the Chinatsu-clone spoke.
"Yuu-kun I hope you've been making our guest feel welcome,"
Yuu paused as he greeted the Chiyoko beside him.
“Of course, sensei. I always make guests feel welcome.”
This was said with a wry half-smile. He always made it a point to, anyway. Whether or not he always succeeded was another thing entirely.
"Hey why don't you go to Takaya Teriyaki? Oh! And take this with you. It'll put it on my tab. Just don't go crazy ok?"
Takaya Teriyaki, huh? Yuu had only eaten there once, and it wasn't exactly barbeque. That sounded better. He accepted the object given to him, examining it and recognizing it instantly. It was Chinatsu's coin; rather important to him. Looking up a little wide-eyed at Chinatsu, Yuu closed his fingers around the coin and pocketed. Fingers brushing something in his pocket, Yuu remembered why he was annoyed in the first place, and withdrew it.
“Got it. And I have something for you, as well.”
Taking the object, Yuu placed it into Chinatsu's hand. It was a half-dried, mutilated clay finch, almost unrecognizable considering how hard Yuu had tried to crush it in his hand initially.

Chi looked in the direction of the laughter and found a tall, intimidating man with snow white hair and a red eye. He was kind of... pretty, actually. Who was he? She wasn't quite sure - of course, from the way he spoke of his office and paperwork and the official air about him, she had an inkling that he was the Tsuchikage himself, and holy crap, was that cool as all hell. The girl never thought she would actually get to see him! But apparently he wasn't the original, whatever that meant... The concept of a clone that could walk around and interact with things and talk to people was foreign to her.
Chi looked back up to Yuu, tugging on his sleeve. "Yuu, let's go! Teriyaki, teriyaki~" Perhaps she was a little bit too excited about the food. It was very generous of the Tsuchikage to put the bill on his tab, and although she kind of wanted to, the genin promised herself that she wasn't going to take advantage of that fact and stuff her face till she couldn't eat more if she was paid to.
She grabbed his hand and started tugging - if she had known the location of the restaurant, she absolutely would have tried to drag the chuunin there. The idea that she probably shouldn't be all touchy with a complete stranger didn't even occur to the catgirl.

Yuu felt a little bit exasperated when the younger girl tugged his sleeve. Tonight was going to be just as tiring as the rest of the day was, wasn't it? He barely got a chance to say goodbye to his mentor, however, because just after that, his hand was grabbed and he was tugged away.
"Yuu, let's go! Teriyaki, teriyaki~"
Feeling kind of awkward about her hilding his hand, Yuu pulled it free and pointed in a different direction.
“It's this way, Chikoyo.”
After having redirected her, Yuu walked behind her, rather unabashedly watching the way her tail swayed.

A pout crossed the girl's face when her cousin, or whatever he was, pulled his hand away. Did he not want to hold her hand? That was rude. There was nothing wrong with her hand that would cause him to not want to hold it. Meanie.
She accepted his redirection without comment, just a nod and a wave of her tail. Teriyaki was awesome! She couldn't wait to get to the restaurant and get some chicken and beef and whatever else looked tasty. Within reason. Probably. Her tail was waving around due to her joy, and she had probably smacked the chuunin with it a couple of times.
Chi glanced back at the chuunin. "Yuu... are you lookin' at my butt?"
Chiyoko's tail hit his leg several times as they walked, and Yuu needed to resist the terrible urge to grab it. Giving in to the urge just a tiny bit, the Kamizuru extended his hand to touch the appendage the next time she flicked him. The fur was softer than it looked and—
"Yuu... are you lookin' at my butt?"
Yuu looked at the girl as if he'd been caught doing something horrible.
“No! I was looking at your tail! It's... uh... fluffy.”
But now he was looking. He looked up to meet her eyes, then looked over her head to see how far they were from the restaurant.
“We're almost there, it's just across the next bridge.”

She stopped short when he touched her tail. Chi was used to people touching her without asking, but normally they wanted to pull her tail or do something else mean. She'd been expecting to have to turn around and shout at the chuunin for hurting her, but got a pleasant surprise when all he did was briefly touch it. "Ooh. Well, you might wanna be careful 'bout how much you look. An' it is really soft. So are my ears. They're like real cat fur," she informed him, flicking her ears for emphasis.
"If you wanna look or touch, all you have to do is ask. I don't mind, really." She liked the attention when it was positive, like Yuu's. He could examine her cat parts as much as he wanted, so long as he continued to be nice about it.
Upon being informed that the restaurant was just across the next bridge, Chi grabbed for his hand again and proceeded to drag him (or, well, try to drag him) to the door of the place. Her mouth watered and she licked her lips, smelling the amazing aroma of freshly cooked meat.
