After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.

The weather forecasters in Amegakure sure had an easy job. Rain. Again. The city never changed, really. Here it was a fact of life. No matter how many times she'd even tried to think of a week of sunshine, Kazuna couldn't wrap her head around it. Wouldn't that much sun be painful on the eyes all the time? She wouldn't mind seeing it some time though, and there was every chance that she might.
But that meant that she had to be ready. She couldn't afford to let herself hold anyone back with her mistakes. The only way to fix those mistakes was, of course, to train. Nobody was out and walking around in the constant rain if they could avoid it, so she had some of the more exposed parts of the lower city to herself. It was a big, flat platform just above water level, and she unsheathed her nagamaki, holding it out level in front of her.
Her clan called this particular training 'rain dancing.' The objective was to build speed and precision, as you were supposed to take aim at a raindrop and strike it before it could escape you, and then without pause, aim for another one. It might sound like just flailing in the rain, but that didn't accomplish much of anything. Pulling the hood down on her jacket, she peered out from beneath its brim, her feet adopting a stance. The exercise was challenging, but when done right, it ended up in a fluid series of strikes that pushed the Seiryūken to their limits. And with an unlimited number of targets, it could get very difficult to pick out a specific one on a moments notice and then strike it.
All in all, it basically would train everything she needed. She'd develop more strength from lifting and swinging her weapon, more agility from moving quickly, and a stronger hand-eye coordination as she aimed at falling raindrops. Kazuna made it three raindrops in, before she felt her foot slip when she over-extended, unceremoniously depositing her on her rear. Oh god, that was embarrassing. Hopefully nobody'd noticed.

are my screams loud enough for you to hear me?
Kaede was perched on the roof of a building, getting rained on. He loved the rain; found it soothing, really. The constant downpour was one of his favorite things about the village. It was so different from Konoha's constant sunny weather. Hell, the last time he'd seen the sun was when he passed through Earth Country on his way home a few weeks back. And really, he didn't miss it. He liked the sky filled with dark storm clouds.
He was well and truly soaked to the bone; the baggy jacket he was wearing instead of his usual vest was plastered to him, and his bangs were sticking to his face. Kaede still didn't want to go inside and get dried off. He wanted something to do with his time. The tokujo was trying his best to come out of his shell and socialize and make friends, like the Iwa chuunin had suggested to him. It wasn't going well. Mostly because he was being a real coward about it - didn't want to try talking to his squad, end up fumbling up, and making everything awkward. So he figured he should start small and have a chat with whoever came out to train.
The figure of a teen girl came into view. Kaede watched her carefully, seeing what she was doing... Seemed to be going after the raindrops. Interesting exercise. As soon as the girl landed on her butt, Kaede was up. He hopped off the roof and landed gracefully on his feet, taking long strides to reduce the distance between them.

Kazuna grumbled to herself. Growing sucked, big-time, and the change in the length of her legs was throwing off her balance at inopportune moments, like the one that had just happened. Sure, she had tried to reach too far as well, but she didn't think it would have been as much of a problem. Certainly she wouldn't have fallen. The changes in her body's size were making her klutzy, and she couldn't afford to make mistakes because of it. Which she supposed was why she was training in the first place. Still falling down sucked and she was glad nobody had seen that...
At least she'd thought nobody'd seen that. She nearly jumped out of her skin when another ninja landed nearby and then asked her if she was alright. Sheepishly she averted her gaze and scratched the side of her face. "Uhh... yeah, I'm fine." she said. "Nothing hurt except my dignity," she followed up muttering to herself.
She stood up and took a better look at her visitor. She didn't recognize him, but that didn't mean much. Kazuna wouldn't recognize most other ninja from the village, since she'd spent most of her time after the academy training, like she had just been doing. "Thanks for asking though..." she trailed off, fishing for the name of the older shinobi.
(( senpaaaaaai~ also, eventually i'ma find a template to use, the laziness is real xD))

Kaede realized then that he probably wasn't the most presentable, soaking wet with clothes that were practically pasted to his skin. Frankly, he wouldn't be surprised if the genin was a little weirded out by him. Oh well. Wouldn't be the first time. Wouldn't be the last.
"You're welcome. The name's Kaede. And yours?" he asked politely. Well, so far the 'socializing' thing was going pretty well. She wasn't screaming and running, so that was a positive. Now he just needed to, well, not be rude. Which at times he found hard, admittedly; but he was sure the girl couldn't do anything to trigger his temper. Well. Mostly sure. Fairly sure. Okay, not sure at all. But he was going to try not to get irritated at her over some stupid, silly little thing. Provided that she wanted to talk to him in the first place.
"Neat exercise you're doing. It's pretty cool. Think I'll have to try it sometime." Okay, so he was bad at the small talk thing. Yeah. What a surprise.

Seeing the older (at least Kazuna assumed he was older) person standing there in the rain without a heavier style of coat was odd to her. The village was very rainy, so most people tended towards hooded jackets like hers. That wasn't to say that he couldn't go out into the rain in something that would be very easily soaked, but heck, what did she know? She wasn't in a position to judge anyone regardless if they were probably a walking case of the ways to catch pneumonia.
Hearing the guy in front of her introduce himself, she had to respond. It was at the very least the respectful thing to do, and Kazuna had nothing against anyone she'd met in the village so far, so there was no reason not to share. "I'm Kazuna, nice to make your acquaintance." Hmm, perhaps a bit on the formal side, but Kazuna really didn't have any idea of what to say to this stranger who'd caught her falling on her butt while she made mistakes on her training. It wouldn't seem right to just pick it up and resume either with him standing there. She'd seem like she was brushing him off. It'd feel rude too if she just asked him to leave, so she stood there until he made comments about how he found the exercise neat.
"Thanks?" She looked around with her eyes, as if she was trying to find someone so she could extract herself from the awkward pace of the conversation. She was smart, but there were times she really didn't know what to say. She wouldn't even personally call her clan's 'rain dance' anything like neat or cool. It was one of their most basic trainings that didn't require a near endless repetition of stances, to get their precision perfect, regardless of conditions. She scratched the side of her face again. Conversation with total strangers was definitely going to be on the list of things to improve next.
"Nice to meet you, Kazuna. You're a genin, right?" he asked, tucking his soaked bangs behind his ears. Okay, so the socializing thing was a lot harder than he anticipated. He just didn't know what to say to people. What did people talk about? He hadn't the slightest clue.
The last time he had had what he would consider a social conversation was when he and one of his ANBU squadmates had commented on how nice this one chick's butt was. And that conversation had lasted approximately ten seconds, and they hadn't even looked at each other. Yeah. He was so out of practice that it was ridiculous. "Other than the, uh, little incident there, how's your training going?" That was about the only thing he could think of to say. Pitiful.

"Yeah... I am a genin for now," Kazuna didn't see it changing any time in the immediate future, and she wasn't sure if she really wanted it to change very quickly either. Obviously she did want to progress beyond that level of skill. As an eternal genin the heir to the Seiryūken clan would just end up letting everybody down. She did know she had more skill than that, but she didn't want to be labeled some kind of brilliant genius, even if she was good with tests on paper. She already felt nearly suffocated by the pressure, still unaware that most of the pressure was from herself and nobody else.
As for awkward conversations, she felt that was a bit her fault too. Really, she was being rather standoffish with this stranger, but that wasn't 100% her fault... even if she did feel like it was. After all, if she'd not fallen flat on her ass, this whole situation would probably never have happened in the first place. Nervously she tugged at one of her white bangs underneath her hood, averting her eyes to the side. The 'incident' oh good, she was hoping maybe they hadn't seen. Oh well.
"It's uh... going good. Hey, maybe we should speak somewhere under shelter?" The fact that Kaede was still standing in the cold rain getting soaked didn't help put her at ease at all. And her desire to train was being slowly replaced by embarrassment from being caught failing. At this rate she'd prefer the awkward conversation.
Kaede nodded, glad he'd been right about the girl's age and that she wasn't some thirty year old jounin midget or something else equally ridiculous. He was also suddenly very glad that he hadn't been asked to train a team of genin upon his promotion; he had absolutely no idea how to deal with them. When he was twelve and thirteen, he had been dealing with his own set of problems completely different than those faced by most kids. So he didn't really know how to relate to them or anything. That could prove to be problematic in the future.
"Shelter. Right. Shelter is good." He grinned at the girl and gestured for her to follow him. With a flourish, he presented his idea of shelter to Kazuna: a nice little gazebo that let people look out at the training fields and watch the shinobi at work. It was nice and dry, and had some picnic tables within - Kaede promptly seated himself on top of one, instead of on the benches - and it was one of his favorite places to just chill.
"How's life treating you, Kazuna?" he asked jovially. Trying to figure out what the hell to say to a teenage girl was a lot more problematic than he had thought it would be.

Kazuna shifted from side to side. Naturally she was uneasy, that much had easily been established up to this point. She really did need to go out more and spend more time with people, and maybe a bit less time training. She shook her head, mostly to clear a wet bang out from her face than to disagree with the thought, though she was disagreeing with it greatly. She still felt she had a literal ton of training to do to even remotely feel qualified for... well just about anything. Genin were novice ninja and she took that perhaps a bit more seriously than might be healthy. At least healthy from a mental standpoint.
From a physical standpoint, simply getting out of the rain would be healthier. Seeing that the two of them had come to an agreement of sorts on that point, Kazuna pulled her nagamaki up, using a dry section of her sleeve to dry the blade before sheathing it. She wouldn't even know what she would do to herself if she got rust on the weapon. Probably crawl into a hole somewhere and die of embarrassment.
But Kaede asked how life was treating her. Honestly she wasn't entirely certain how she should respond to the question. After all it wasn't like she wanted to share the fact that she was filled with doubt about her own abilities or anything like that. It didn't make pleasant conversation, nor did it help her much at all talking about it with a complete stranger. So naturally the answer that would come out would be: "Uh, I'm doing okay I guess." With them underneath a picnic shelter now, Kazuna pulled back her hood, letting her white bangs free from the rest of her mass of aqua-colored hair. "And how are you doing?" It might be awkward still, but at least Kazuna wasn't going to let herself be rude.
