After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
Akai Sanshōuo no Suna (Lit "Red Salamander of the Sand.")
Beyond his obstinacy and hotheadedness, Ryu is regarded as one of Sunagakure’s Elite Katon users—if not its greatest. Though young, legends circulate his life, detailing the stretch of missions the boy has taken, and his successful campaigns. A renowned Shakuton User, one of the few to be precise, villages across the continent have blended myth and realism and due to his openly destructive nature, has been described as a Dragon in lore.
Needless to say, his prowess with the Fire Element, and its more advanced variant—Shakuton—Ryu takes pride in his artistry, and it’s paid off in terms of his reputation. While not on pair with what he’s considered a Dragon’s strength to be, steps have been implicated—The Salamander will do for now. Age & DOB: 16, 09/07. Gender: Male. Sexuality: Heterosexual.
Village: Sunagakure. Rank & Position: Chūnin. Chakra Nature: Shakuton. Chakra Manipulations: Shakuton, Katon and Futon.
Appearance
Ryu is characterized with having youthful and delicate handsomeness. Even without the ability to grow thick facial hair it grows light and his face still glows with eternal youth making him naturally physically appealing. His facial features are described as being perfect and angular with high cheekbones and a strong curved jaw line. His skin is smooth like marble and slightly-tanned in nature. He has porcelain like skin with no imperfections further adding to his noble image. His vibrant pink hair is shiny and sleek but thick. Even though it’s thick it falls neatly along the side of his head, either swept over on an angle or straight backwards. Up above his ears it flows to roughly the top of his neck. A common trait seen by many is his charming grin. Stretching across his face it shows his pearly white teeth with humble intent. He also possesses a very unique colored iris. His eyes are a jeweled Obsidian color which gifts him a mesmerizing stare.
Despite his age, and his rather bloody past, the young shinobi has ascertained a piece of longevity as his face hasn’t truly aged since his mid-teens. Soft skin and a narrow jawline, the only hint of indifference comes in the form of his eyes, which are hosted in a dull mannerism most of the time.
His attire is symbolic of his warrior heritage. A black vest being the only cloth to cover his torso, the bulk of his chest is exposed revealing a toned physique. His pant legs are tucked nicely into his sandals, generating a billowing effect at his ankles while his arms are protected beneath steel forearm guards. A black sash usually spending a blade is always present while a thick wrap rests around his forehead as a headband. Sunagakure’s insignia is embroidered along such a headband in the form of a hitai-ate. Lastly, draped loosely, though affectionately around his neck, Ryūza dons a sallow white scarf—its importance being only known to himself.
No distinguishing features are present; his body is lean and toned and while he has no tattoos, his chest and back are pledged by scars of battle. Some healed to perfection then others, his strong chest and chiseled abdomens are riddled with tales from his previous battles.
Personality
At first blush, Ryu seems to be far different from other shinobi, being laid back where others may be serious, disrespectful where others tend toward polite aloofness, and disorganized where others are methodical; to a point, this is correct. Ryu is, at the surface, irreverent and outspoken with a mercurial temperament—both easily entertained and angered. He may act genuinely friendly at the right time; he may also attack even when unprovoked. He lacks any respect for authority—Manipulative ministrations have no effect on his headstrong, oblivious-to-the-opinions-of-others attitude. He speaks with enormous self-confidence, perhaps brought on by his consistent assertion of independence. The public face of Ryu is one that is haughty, discordant; crude, and somewhat neurotic—yet at times genuinely fun to be around. The most common reason why he does what he does is merely…Why not? While he is a fighter and not a lover, he enjoys feeling good, and certainly flirts when it strikes his fancy. He can pick them up with the best of them when he wants to; flirting is just another kind of hunt to him. Hunting is something he excels in.
Finding battle, finding prey, avoiding boredom, and setting the stage for his goals are all the extrinsic motivation that could move him to action; Ryu’s hedonistic tendencies to do whatever feels best account for many of his actions. He believes in himself almost to a fault, and is driven to prove his strength. He takes sadistic delight in defeating and humiliating opponents, and is mercilessly manipulative. He is keen to hone in on weakness, and quite capable of thinking on his feet.
Ryu maintains only a bare minimum of a moral code: repay favors, avenge wrongs, and do not attempt to fix what is not broken. Ryu isn’t very vengeful, holding grudges for as long as it takes to get revenge for them doesn’t appeal to his nature, not will he take on a grudge for something rather small—with the revenge being rather disproportional at times. The longer it takes him to avenge himself, the worse the beating will be when it comes, and he will never forget a wrong before it is set right. In his justice system, he is both sheriff and posse. He believes there is always a single someone to blame, and is a staunch opponent of group punishment, preferring to take failure out on either the responsible party or a scapegoat.
However, beneath the skin, Ryu does answer to one true calling, one strong purpose: to single-handedly obliterate the music and entertainment scene. Yes, he wants to be a rapper, and feels he’s actually quite good at it. It’s his dream if this Shinobi business his brother put him up to doesn’t fall through.
Ryu, beyond his arrogance and hauteur, considers one person his physical equal; Ken. Throughout the years, the two have been pitted against one another in combat and Ryu has gained a subtle appreciation for his kin. Their rivalry gradually turned into a competitive and complimentary partnership where their weaknesses are complimented by one another’s strengths. In reality, Ryu only has true respect for two things: worthy opponents, and his elder brother, Ken.
History
Sunagakure had given birth to a monster…
A chilled November night ushered in the existence of a newborn boy. He was born in a great time of despair and desolation, conflicts were on the rise between Sunagakure and Kirigakure and it was a very dangerous place, the boy's air was as vibrant as a pink rose that waited patiently along the meadows of open flora; eyes sealed beneath shades of flesh not ready to be exposed to the world. Spirited and buoyant, the young child possessed a raw energy that couldn't be contained by any normal means. A chakra so strong it was almost volatile and physical energy that exceeded a normal baby’s capacity so evident, it couldn’t be contained. He was a lively one, and had purpose. On such a day, the mother of the pink-haired protagonist would properly name her second son, Ryu.
Nonetheless, tragedy had struck the family, and due to unforeseen circumstances, the two boys were left in the care of a Foster Home. Their parents, killed in the line of duty. This happenstance occurring just after his birth, there is no real information to tell the tale of his life before, and since he was adopted months following, Ryu has only retained knowledge of his adoptive family. Luckily, the two prospective Shinobi weren’t separated and lived life together.
Their father was a lowly Anzai clansman, devoid of any real talent or stature within the Hidden Stone; a man aged enough for Jōnin status, but lacking the talent of anything above a Chūnin. A mother, as kind as one could be but lacking any shinobi training, it seemed that Ryu’s future would be quite uninspiring. Nonetheless, that wouldn’t be the case. A baby Salamander relied on his parents to help him gain strength in his wings so he could fly. Once he left the nest, he would have to grow into a powerful Dragon and undertake feats on his own; Ryu’s situation was no different. They would help him extend his wings but he’d soar on his own.
Joining the academy upon a desperate father’s wishes, Ryu had entered at 4, quite a youthful age for any prospecting shinobi. During his time, he adapted well, and took ahold of concepts normally considered difficult for even older individuals. During this time, his own unique kekkei-Tōta had manifested. His body, while young and naturally frail, possessed an uncanny residual heat. His affinity for the Fire element had manifested inadvertently, and without conscious control, the sprouting of accidental evaporations surfaced; his Shakuton emerged.
Graduating the Academy a year before the average of most, Ryu was punctually promoted to the title of Genin, along with his brother. Having joined the elder of the two’s team, Ryu had developed, unknowingly, a subconscious competitiveness with his relative, Ken. It pained him to see his sibling advanced beyond him, and his ego had developed just as quickly as his skill with Katon; a bad and destructive combination.
Missions came willingly as Ryu had it his objective to master the element and its advanced variation that had come almost intrinsically to him in his youth. This process seemingly forced him to neglect another key element which was vivacious to the understanding behind his Kekkei-Tōta—Fūton. While naturally possessing the wind element, he is ignorant to its existence within himself; conversely, he never learned to use it. Simply put, his strength with Shakuton had come accidentally, and he learned to use it more in a primal sense than scholastically.
Beyond the physical and verbal feuds Ryu shared with his brother, every other Shinobi within his age range and older became his targets. Sparring daily with Shinobi who he surpassed, and coincidentally, outclassed him, the pink-haired Ninja gained the reputation as a Hothead and brat; some even suggested the only thing stronger than his flames was his ego.
Such rumors and seemingly realistic decrees did little to stunt his progression, however. In the boy’s mind, he would become the strongest user of Katon known to all Shinobi. Those who belittled him were but mere obstacles, meant to never be circumvented, but challenged hot-head first; a means to justify the end.
The efforts of his bodily exertion, nonetheless, didn’t go unwarranted. His strength and stamina increased far surpassed the instructors, as well as his Jōnin commander’s anticipation. Even his brother, who was once his superior in every way, slowly inched into his realm of strength before the two were considered equals within their village.
The ample missions he accepted, be it low-ranking janitorial stunts, to team-oriented infiltration and assassination exploits assigned to his cell, the young boy garnished quite the reputation around Sunagakure. Once known as a brat and quarrelsome flare, his seemingly unsurpassed potency with Katon and Shakuton, coupled with his age granted him the title of, Salamander—meant to soon ascend to the “Dragon.” He awaited the day that would happen wholeheartedly, as he didn’t bother changing the alias, it fit him well for now.
Combat Stats
Paths of the Shinobi:
Primary: Path of the Soul. Secondary: Path of the Body. Weakest: Path of the Mind.
Equipment:
Left leg pouch: 2 kunai, 10 explosive tags and 1 kunai grenade.
Right leg pouch: 16 sendons, 2 blank scrolls and 2 smoke grenades.
Lower back: Ninja wire 30m, 2 fuuma shuriken.
Special Abilities:
i. Huge Chakra Reserves: Ryu has a huge pool of chakra reserves which was a trait passed down from his grandfather. Possessing the rare kekkai touta of Shakuton, Ryu must have a huge pool of chakra in order to harness the great responsibility that comes with Shakuton, the ability to potentially destroy villages. He has pushed his own limits and therefore developed a massive pool which he can use to his advantage. From these chakra pools he has an upper-hand in battle, he really does not have to be careful with his chakra unless he starts creating forest fires with his Shakuton or something. So at his current age, the Anzai contains an impressive mass of chakra within his being, even so for his rank. He usually starts getting tired after forty five minutes of battle or so which is a great feat for someone of his age
ii. Scorch Release: Focusing on both the elements equally, Ryu has an innate likeness for the Scorch element. A combination of Fūton and Katon, the young Shinobi can execute techniques within this field with immaculate results. Having created several techniques for close-quarter combat—Nintaijutsu--- Ryu has developed his own style of fighting solely possessed by him. It’s so effective that it makes hand-to-hand conflicts near fruitless against an ignorant foe. It’s believed his proficiency with this field is identical to that of his mastery in Katon.
iii. Dragon Scales: Strong in chakra and mind, his body is on par. Years of rigorous training and conditioning—with the added sessions with Ken—Ryu has comprised a robust body. Due to his affinity for the fire element and the connotation with his name and legacy, any compare his resilient physique—his skin—with the scales of a dragon. Physical punishment is nothing more than a formality for the young Shinobi, and he accepts it willingly. His tolerance for pain is sky-high, and he’s able to shrug off all but the most destructive or detrimental attacks. Conversely, with a strong body, he’s also produces strapping physical strength, able to lift his size 3-times over with relative ease as a show of his brunt.
