After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.

Ringo walked on her tiptoes, balancing on a chosen row of bricks in the road. Today was one of those days she wore shorts and a wrapping cloth; the villagers shouldn't complain, really. She was wearing something now, yet they still felt the need to stare and cover their children's eyes. Her own scarlet ones rolled. Babies.
The werewolf was on a mission. Not just any mission, no. She wasn't going to pull weeds or fix a roof, this job was much, much more important. You see, Chiyoko was late, and Ringo had grown tired of waiting for her. So she was going to go find her. Ringo had already stopped by the girl's home, and while the scent was strong, the girl had appeared to be absent. So began the quest of following the feline's scent through the sea of smells. She felt she was getting closer, but the traffic made the girl hard to see.

Chi had gotten distracted on her way to meet Ringo by a particularly nice-smelling food stall. The guy manning the stall had barely had to give his pitch for her to decide to buy some of the skewered beef. Six sticks of it, to be precise. Once she had her prize, she wandered through the streets, following the wolfgirl's scent.
"'m right here, silly." Chi gently tugged on the tip of her scantily-clad friend's tail, and offered her three of the skewers. "Want some meat?"

The smell of meat cut through the crowd before the voice even hit her ears, and Ringo's tail began to wag once it was grabbed on to.
"'m right here, silly." The wolf turned back to look at the shorter girl. "Want some meat?"
The smile was wide, and instead of answering with words, Ringo bent instead, biting down and snatching the meat from the catgirl's fingers. Swallowing the bite, she took the other two sticks and licked the sauce from her lips, smiling to Chi.

The catgirl grinned and waved her skewers. "I was gettin' meat. It smelled too good to just walk by it." She punctuated her words by stripping the meat off one of the sticks and devouring it, tongue darting out to get the sauce she'd somehow managed to smear on her face.
"Whatcha wanna do t'day?" Chi asked, giving the wolf an inquisitive look. Whenever they got where they were going, she was going to reveal her big plans to her one and only friend.

"I was gettin' meat. It smelled too good to just walk by it."
Ringo couldn't agree more. It was a perfectly acceptable reason to be late. The meat was delicious.
"Whatcha wanna do t'day?"
Looking back to the girl from her meat, Ringo noticed a little sauce that Chi had failed to get off, leaning forward and licking it for her. She rolled the taste of the sauce on her tongue, thinking of what they could do. The grain fields were becoming golden with the turn of the seasons. All sorts of fun things could be found.

Chi finished off her skewers as Ringo thought, tail swishing happily. "Huntin' sounds fun, let's go~" she chirped, bouncing on the balls of her feet as she waited for the girl to hop off the brick wall (as last time she'd decided to pull her off, she'd been bitten and that hadn't been fun).
When the wolfgirl licked the sauce off her face, she pretty much automatically licked her back, trilling softly.

Ringo's tail wagged excitedly when Chi agreed, returning the lick with yet another lick. A cat and a wolf getting along, such an odd sight. Because that was exactly what was odd about it. Freezing to raise her ears at a sharp sound across the market, Ringo promptly forgot what she was doing and finished the meat skewers. Grabbing her friend's hand, the wolf tugged her to a waste bin to toss them, then towards the exit of the village. Ringo loved romping in the fields, and it provided excellent ninja practice. Somehow. I mean, if you can catch a mouse in a wheat field, you can catch a bad guy, right?
Note: I was kinda making the roads be made out of brick and walking the length of a pattern... :v but a wall is cool too.

Chi practically pranced along after the wolf, tail swishing excitedly. Sure, she wasn't the best at hunting - Ringo was better by a far margin - but that didn't mean it wasn't fun. And practice makes perfect, right? Besides, it was also fun to roll around in the wheat, even if not everybody exactly appreciated that particular action of hers.
"So, so, Ringo, I have some news!" she blurted, ears twitching.

"So, so, Ringo, I have some news!"
One ear turned towards Chi, followed by the rest of a tea-colored head. Ringo gave a mischevious smile at the sound of “news.” Who knew what sort of things would she have to tell?
“What's your news, Chi?” she asked with excitement.

The catgirl was bouncing on her feet, incredibly excited to share this news with her only friend. "I found out that there's a whole clan of people in Iwagakure that I'm related to! I have a last name now. Kamizuru." Tail swishing, she trilled.
"And the Kusakage signed the papers that will let me go visit them! I get to stay with my family for a whole month!"
"I found out that there's a whole clan of people in Iwagakure that I'm related to! I have a last name now. Kamizuru."
Ringo's mouth opened in a wide “O” when she heard that. Chi had always been an orphan, a one of a kind. She wasn't a wolf, she was a cat, so Ringo never knew where Chi had come from, and she didn't have a curse mark on her, either. And Chi didn't know, either. So the fact she had a family was so cool. But... Kamizuru. The name was familiar to Ringo. Not to her personally but through stories she'd heard.
"And the Kusakage signed the papers that will let me go visit them! I get to stay with my family for a whole month!"
Ringo pouted. She didn't want Chi to be one of those scary Kamizuru people. But the girl looked so absolutely happy that the wolf didn't want to say anything. Instead, she hugged Chi tight, pulling the catgirl's head against her chest.

If Chi had ever paid attention in history class in the academy, she would have known the connotations that the name 'Kamizuru' held in Kusa. But she hadn't. And she didn't have parents to tell her about it, so how would she know?
She hugged the wolf back, purring as hard as she could possibly purr. She didn't want to leave her best and only friend, but she had a family to meet. Family. The one thing she wanted more than anything else in the world. "In two days. I promise I'll come see you before I leave, okay? And I'll send you postcards and other cool stuff," Chi stated through her purr. "And I'll come back. I swear."

Two days? That was so soon. Ringo's tail drooped.
"And I'll come back. I swear."
“You better,” she mumbled before tackling the girl down into the wheat and biting one of the ears. It would have turned into a wrestling match if Ringo's sharp ears hadn't heard the sound of a field mouse. Hissing for the catgirl to be quiet, she pointed in the direction of the sound.
“I heard something over there.” It has been fixed. :v

Chi didn't like the fact that her leaving made her friend sad; well, she liked that that meant Ringo cared for her, but she didn't want her wolfy buddy to be sad. At least she had family she could hang out with while the catgirl was gone.
"I promise," she repeated as she was tackled, returning the friendly ear bite with one of her own. Then her ears perked up as she heard the rustling of the mouse as well.
"Well, get off me so we can go chase it," Chi murmured softly, tail twitching.

"Well, get off me so we can go chase it."
Ringo rapidly nodded twice, sanguine eyes never leaving the spot where she heard the creature scuffle. Securing her footing, the wolf launched off of the kitty below her, ears seeking out the creature that could make a gamey snack if she could catch it.
“Let's see who gets it first.” We should have planned this out better. Also, that “I'll come back, I swear.” sounds like such a filthy, dirty, foreshadowy lie.
