After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.

In truth, there is little to say about the young girl's appearance, outside of noting the tanned complexion of her skin, the rosiness of her cheeks, the golden rings that are her eyes, and the fiery crimson mop of messy hair sticking up from all ends atop her head. Zari is a lithe and limber young woman, whose body is often confused with that of a boy's given her lack of any mammary endowment. When the girl smiles, it's said her big pearly whites take up nearly half of her head, a frightening but heartwarming sight for all to see. To most, the young kunoichi is nothing short of adorable in terms of her looks.
Zari is not much for clothing, sticking with a rather loose and sleeveless white shirt and black, tight-fitting running shorts. Either atop her head or around her neck is a pair of goggles to protect her eyes in both her workshop and in the stinging sandstorms, its base bearing a metal plate on which her village's symbol has been inscribed. Unlike most shinobi, Zari is not one to wear the traditional shinobi sandals or boots, instead preferring to go about life barefooted, and thus resulting in having toughened soles. She is usually seen carrying a thick shinobi pouch at her waist, and a shoulder-slung satchel that hangs to the opposite side of her body.
The first thing most people learn about the young Zari upon making her acquaintance is her somewhat inscrutable childishness, often associated with her hyperactive and often ditsy behavior. She is more inclined to point and laugh at others than she is to ever help them, and is known for being quite the prankster despite her age. Zari just seems to be a dynamo of energy when it comes to acting far younger than her age lets on, though in any other occasion, she seemingly loses all of her activeness and becomes sluggish.
Most of this immaturity rises from an innate curiosity of all things, namely in the way people to respond to her erratic behavior. However, this desire to learn about odd things has manifested itself in other mediums, the most notable being the mechanics of intricate devices such as puppets, and the inner workings of the human body. Though she seems as thick as a brick at times, many are impressed at just how intuitive the child is concerning rather difficult to grasp topics.
Though with this curiosity comes an insatiable greed to gain answers, and to know more. This often leads to her become fixated on particular things, onto certain scrolls or books, and especially on things that would otherwise help her further her understanding. Food is a big part, given that it fuels her body which requires energy to learn, often leaving others without their lunches as the young Zari snatches them away.
Despite how intimately close she may seem to others, Zari is a girl who can't help but distance herself from her acquiantances. She feels little connection to anyone other than her puppets, whom she refers to by name and honorific, and would become much more emotional were something to happen to her tools than were something to befall an ally in battle. This could be a mask for a deep loneliness within the orphan, but even the council of the village seem to have trouble deciphering the reasons behind the way Zari behaves.

It seems that orphans such as Zari all posses similar backgrounds, either being the abandoned products of a mistake or the outcome of another's tragedy. In the girl's case, she is of the latter, her parents having died but two years after being graced with their first and only child. A relay mission had gone south, the Sunagakure shinobi were intercepted, and they were never seen from again; in the game of information, her parents are assumed to have been interrogated and killed.
This left a toddler all on her own, leaving her silent and nearly unresponsive to any and all adult figures. Isolation defined her when it came to of responsibility, but Zari remained her playful self around other children. Without parents, the girl no longer had someone to learn to behave from, encouraging her to be the child she was.
By the time she was eight, as most orphaned children undergo, Zari was brought to the Shinobi Academy. However, given her somewhat rambunctious personality, Zari was quick to become the class clown--not to mention the class loser. Without bonds to adults, her bonds with other children were considered to be most important in her life, encouraging the young girl to act out in order to gain their favor.
Her grades slipped and her performances were weak, but she was capable of entertaining others. In time, however, she would see the progress those who focused in their work achieved in comparison to her own. While they laughed at her antics, they still became something greater than they were before, while Zari fell short due to her actions.
This would once again inspire a loneliness within the girl, one that seemingly could not be filled no matter how hard she could try. Instead of trying to bring others close to her, Zari devoted herself to study and work in private. She found bonds with those that she could entertain with her antics, and those that could entertain her; the iconic puppets of the sand. Though they were lifeless in the hands of others, the girl found ways to give her puppets a persianlity that meshed ever so lovely with her own. They became her new family, her new friends, and even her new love interest in the case of a particular puppet. While other see it as odd, Zari looks at her puppets as the only true companions she will ever have.
Zari learned of how to make these puppets through her rudimentary studies of the human body, and all similar features she could within the Academy. This outside studying was alien to the Zari that her instructors knew, as the girl would be worthy of great promise as a shinobi were it not for her immaturity. Her often eratic behavior, in due time were she to advance within the ranks, may possibly be the cause of failures during missions, and thus cost the village lives. Were this the case, and the free-spirited child would become a liability to the village; such a waste of promising talent. Though many saw this flaw as her as a lost cause, her promise failed to escape the eyes of the Kazekage.
It was decided that, were she to become the expert kunoichi that her potential prophesied, Zari would be placed under the teaching of their village leader if and when she would ever graduate. She was one who knew loss, even at such a young age, and her growth from that great pain would determine whether she would become a great shinobi or a threat to her home. This decision could only be safely coaxed by someone as influential as the Sand's leader.
By the time the girl was thirteen, she had excelled in her shinobi studies to the point of being accepted as a graduate. However, given her poor ability to cooperate with others--the girl would rather make a show of herself and find fun from her environment--Zari still needed to be tested on her teamwork capabilities. Given how it seems to be the oil to her water in terms of her personality, this would become quite the task for who would have to be a very patient Kazekage.
Zari's school days had ended, but there was still so many more lessons to be taught to the young lady; lessons that would either make or break her future as a kunoichi.
Puppeteer: Given her curiosity for taking things apart, it was only natural that the young Sunagakure shinobi found great interest in the art of Kugutsu ninjutsu. Her knack for creating and repairing her animated tools is almost as great as her ability to identify how other puppets function based on their designs, something that has astounded others in the same field given her seemingly mindless behavior outside of her impromptu workshop. Her skill in manipulating puppets is considerable despite her age, as Zari bears enough ability to not only detach and reattach her strings in moments, but also in her potency to suppress her strings to the point of practical invisibility.
Medic Apprentice: Along with her knack of wondering what makes tools tick, Zari has shown great interest—not to mention prowess—in what makes people tick. This has begun a growth in her skills as a medical shinobi, having learned great detail of the human anatomy, as well as what medicines and toxins can be formed from particular vegetation. Though she possesses few medical ninjutsu, Zari is quite capable with a first aid kit, being able to patch simple wounds with ease.
