After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.

"And it finds me. The fight inside is coursing through my veins. And it's raging. The fight inside is breaking me again." ~RED - Fight Inside~
Zain kicked a small rock in near the barren field that was the Iwagakure training grounds. The rocky terrain was much different than the rich undergrowth and surrounding forest he was used to. The plain was shaped by divots and spires created by ninja practicing their earth jutsu. A living environment always changing in accordance to the battles it endured, not unlike many young, malleable shinobi.
The boy found a rock on the fringe of the grounds and sat down. It was here that he waited for his sensei to show up, the shiny new headband around his waist signifying he was a fresh genin. All he was told about the man was that he had blue hair and was kinda short. He didn't see anyone with blue hair out in the field, so he settled for watching the others who were there while he waited.
While he had thought he might be able to pick up a few tricks by observing his seniors, their techniques were hopelessly beyond the boy. At first this discouraged him, but then he realized that's what he was here for, to learn. He just hoped his teacher wasn't someone like miss Hitomi.
Fresh meat. Kashii was pretty excited to finally be assigned a student. Saiko had been all over him last night asking him about the new student he'd been assigned. Truthfully, Kashii knew very little. He'd been told what the hospital had learned of him and that there was no more information, not even a surname. So, essentially a clean slate that Kashii knew nothing about. That meant he would discover one of two things: A pup who wasn't worth his time, or a kid who had a lot of potential.
It was Cat that the man sent in first. Removing the harness that marked her as an animal shinobi of Iwagakure, he instructed her to go to the training grounds first to locate the red-headed male. Now, if Cat could see red it would have been easier, but it wasn't too hard to find the male by body language. Her spotted pelt somewhat blended into the color of the earth as she approached. A spotted feline wasn't exactly a native or commonplace animal, but sometimes exotics came in from who-knows where. So, Cat rolled her jaw and shook her head, giving off the “dumb animal” vibes. Appraoching the male, she gave a tenor trill and rubbed against his leg.

The boy normally would have been alerted to the cat's presence if he had been paying attention to his surroundings rather than the other shinobi who were deeper into the grounds. He had been around enough wildlife to be able to distinguish the soft padding of a predator from the prancing of its prey. However, he was more focused on the spar happening a good distance away and thus was rather surprised when the animal had managed to reach him unnoticed.
Zain, obviously startled when it rubbed against him, jumped into a crouch on top of the rock he had been using as a seat to build a small distance from the feline. He cocked his head to the side, looking it over. It smelled vaguely different from any of the cats he had encountered previously, a bit closer to the smell people around the village gave off. It's stature, while maintaining the grace of its feline heritage, gave off more of a refined vibe than he had come to expect.
The genin inspected the cat for a while longer. The smell, the impression he was getting, and other subtleties he had picked up on led him to believe this wasn't an ordinary feline. Given the circumstances he guessed it could be trained and belong to one of the ninja here, but when he looked around he didn't see anyone coming toward him to collect it. The other thought that crossed his mind struck him as unlikely, but it couldn't hurt asking. He doubted the animal could understand him anyway.
Cat startled at the same time the boy did, dancing away on light paws. She hadn't expected him to jump like that. Her tail lashed from side to side, slightly fluffed, before she relaxed her position and regarded the male, allowing the fur on her banded tail to fall back into place. The way he looked at her informed Cat she wasn't really fooling him and sat back on her haunches, still as a statue. Slitted gold eyes regarded him, waiting for the words that she could tell he was about to say.
"Sensei...? Is that you?"
There was a long, slow blink, and then her whiskers twitched. Everything about the human male read that question as being an honest one. Duty be damned, she was going to take advantage of this fun. From her peripherals she could see a shape shadowing the outskirts out of sight of the boy. Her master was approaching. But, she knew the jounin wouldn't approach until she gave the okay. That didn't mean she couldn't speak loud enough for Kashii to hear her from his closer position, though. Curling her tail around her feet neatly, she looked the boy directly in the eyes.
“Yes. You must be Zain? Stand up, child.”
Rising gracefully to her toes, the feline gauged where the male would be when erect and jumped to a segment of earth that jutted out as close to eye level as she could estimate, turning to look at him in a graceful sit once more. She did, technically, help Kashii teach, so cat wouldn't be completely lying.
“Introduce yourself.”
Silently, ever so silently, a diminutive male scaled a short scrubby tree and concealed himself among the branches to watch. A silent grin rest on his lips; he was just within earshot of the pair from here. Cat was going to save him some of the tedious details, it seemed.

At the sound of her voice, Zain fell backward off of the rock and onto his backside. He hadn't been expecting the animal to answer him. When he was younger he'd tried to strike up a conversation with the resident creatures to stem the loneliness, but he'd never gotten any intelligible response.
Obediently he stood as he was told. It was a bit unsettling that the cat could talk, but the boy was more curious than anything. Before he had the opportunity to voice any questions , however, he was told to introduce himself.
""I'm Zain," His eyes wandered searching for something else to say about himself, but nothing came to mind. So, he skipped right to his questions, ""Why are you a cat? Can you teach me how to do that? Does it feel weird?"
Honestly he would be perfectly okay having the cat as his sensei. He was more comfortable around animals than people anyway, especially after his unfortunate incident. Better to stick with what he understood than to what might wind up biting him.
With an amused twitch of her whiskers, the feline was amused at how startled he was at the sound of her voice. Cat was also pleased to see the boy followed orders well, and lifted her head slightly to meet his gaze. Eye contact was an acquired human trait that animals avoided, but when dealing with humans, you needed to use their body language.
"I'm Zain." Oh, she would have never guessed. "Why are you a cat? Can you teach me how to do that? Does it feel weird?"
Her whiskers twitched again. This boy thought she was a human henged as a cat? How insulting. Extending a paw attached to a long arm, the feline gauged the distance between herself and Zain's face. Confident she could make the distance, she swiped at him and raked her claws down his face.
“I was born a cat, I am a cat, I will always be a cat. Respect that, Zain.”

"H-hey!" The boy exclaimed in protest of being attacked. He had managed to get his arm up high enough to shield his face, but her claws still slid across his rough skin. When he was sure the cat was done assaulting him he lowed his guard, rubbing the arm that had gotten scratched. It wasn't bleeding, but that didn't mean the claws hadn't hurt.
Okay so maybe he had been a little deserving of the scratch, but how was he supposed to know his sensei would be a cat? Normally with a person he would be on edge, but since she was an animal Zain felt like he could handle it if things got out of hand. Besides, how many talking animals would he get a chance to learn from?
Still holding his stinging arm, the genin settled down. He would be more careful in picking his words before he spoke again. "So... if you're a cat..." He started, watching the feline's movements carefully. He would be prepared for another attack from her, "How can you talk?"
Cat's paw was still extended and she observed how the male reacted to her. She hadn't swiped hard, but her curved talons barely scratched his hide. She looked at him in curiosity. Sure it was obvious that his skin was weird, but it made a difference as well it seemed.
"So... if you're a cat... How can you talk?"
The feline narrowed her gaze at him, then stood. The boy was still underestimating her. Her banded tail rose to a horizontal position and she fixated on Zain's right arm. Then, she kicked off from her perch with the speed and power only a ninneko could muster, long talons extended. Her front claws hooked into the tough flesh on his forearm and she used the momentum of her body to swing it around his back. She kept the claws of her right paw trapped in his flesh, but the rest of her paws clawed and scrabbled at his back until she perched at his shoulder with his arm with her. Using her back claws to dig in, she used her freed left paw to clench onto the second hand that rose to dislodge her out of reflex, large teeth wrapped around his windpipe, tail lashing.
When the large body careened and fell to the ground, she did not relent, merely loosening her bite so that she did not accidentally clamp down on with the impact. Once grounded she released him and hissed in his ear. The entire movement took less than five seconds.
“I am not a normal cat.”
With that she retracted the lot of her claws, putting a considerable amount of distance between the two before stopping to look at him. He might just retaliate.

While the cat's intentions were very obvious to the boy, he wasn't expecting it to leap with such speed. As a result, when he reached forward to catch her throat he only succeded in making it easier for her to latch onto his arm. He was twisted, and stumbled forward as she collided with his back.
He had lost track of the situation, slowly becoming aware of the jaws at his neck. He felt hot liquid running from his right arm through several small gashes created when the creature slid down his it. The rest of her claws only scratched him. The entire attack and her comment were uncalled for. Of course she wasn't an ordinary animal, he of all people could tell that. He was just curious why she could talk like a person.
But that wasn't his concern at the moment. Once the cat jumped off of him, the boy curled up placing his back against the rock he had used as a seat. He instinctively grabbed the injured limb in an attempt to soothe the pain. He'd been in several situations like this when he was younger, but only recently had he started blacking out, and when he woke up again it was never pretty.
His watering eyes were shut tightly and he took deep breaths, trying not to give in. Who knew what he might do in the middle of the field. He'd likely get himself killed before he got back to normal. Stupid cat, it was like she had a death wish.
Cat's tail thrashed, and she paced a circle around the boy, watching his reactions carefully. She padded closer to him as she moved, noting at how he gripped at his arm and held tears in his eyes. Low pain tolerance? If Zain couldn't handle her, then there would be problems with her master. The feline's slitted eyes met the gold eyes of her master hidden away. Not yet.
“This won't be child's play,” the cat informed him. “You will not be coddled like a newborn kit. You are going to be trained to be a fighter. If you can't fend me off, you stand little chance of surviving against those who want to kill you. You carry the scent of the wild on you, but a shinobi is nothing like a rampant boar.”
Extending her claws in the earth, the cat gave a large bound, landing against his chest with all four paws. Her teeth clicked audibly in his face and she put all of her claws in pushing off of him to send him down to the ground once more. Thirty pounds of feline would prove a decent starting opponent.

The misunderstanding would not be pleasant for the cat. When she broke his concentration by pouncing on his chest his demeanor changed rapidly. Zain had lost his battle for control and his instincts took over. The glare into her eyes as she snapped her jaws at him signified the last of his reasoning leaving.
As the feline went to jump away, she would be stopped by a tight grip on her tail as he pulled her back. He rolled, placing his other hand on the animal's chest. She would be pinned on her back, finding it difficult to remove the arm by scratching or biting. Such injuries no longer mattered to the boy, who had a newfound bloodlust.
Zain snarled viciously, applying as much pressure as he could with his hand and fingers. He also bent forward, closing his own jaws around her neck. Clearly the boy was not playing around and if allowed to continue would most certainly kill the animal, even if he would be gravely wounded as well.

Cat let out an ungodly wail when her tail was grasped and wrenched back, feeling the bones in it pop. Instinctively she curled up, just to find herself crushed under the weight of the human, his hand threatening to shatter her ribcage. However, before he could get his teeth around her throat, he would find the heel of a black shoe colliding firmly with the side of his head, sending him flying. Kashii caught his feline partner when she was wrenched off the ground by the grip the male still hand on her, and Cat wheezed to take in the breath she'd been denied from the constriction, claws instinctively latching on to her master's thick leather coat.
Kashii overlooked the boy, his crazed expression, the way he responded to Cat. Yes, Kashii had been expecting retaliation, that was the point, to see how he took to aggression. But he hadn't expected the redhead to respond like an animal instead of a shinobi.

Zain twisted in the air, rolling a few feet away before catching himself. Blinking, he shook his head to get the ringing out of his ears. The beast of a boy glared up at the newcomer from down on all fours. A low growl rumbled in his throat from the loss of his prey. If this new thing wanted to fight, he would give it one.
Without warning the boy launched back toward the enemy, oblivious to fact that he could be killed at any instant. His sloppy swipes offered no tact, what worked on animals didn't transfer so easily to a human opponent. It would be clear from his fierce gaze that there was no shred of humanity in his actions. He was simply venting an overwhelming, unrelenting raw rage.
The look on the kid's face was absolutely rabid. It brought a grin to the bluenette's face. He liked this, he liked this a lot. Cat jumped loose from his arms and shook herself, rapidly cleaning her shoulder to cover the embarrassment of being taken down so quickly after talking big. He'd startled her, that's all. It happens.
It took little effort for Kashii to block the wide, slow blows. Zain had no form or training to him, his swipes were strong but clumsy and unguided. A diamond in the rough, perhaps? Or just a glass gem fallen in the dirt? He'd test Zain's potential once he understood the blind rage the child was so clearly lost in.
Once Kashii's arms stung from blocking the swipes, he grew bored. On Zain's next lunge forward, the diminutive male flickered behind the genin, piviting on his toes to deliver a kick that would take Zain's foreward movement and drop him on his face. Kneeling on the kid's back, Kashii's gloved hand gnarled and fisted into crimson hair, pulling upward. Not hard enough to tear it out, but certainly hard enough to pull Zain's head off the ground.

Lights flashed behind his eyes as his head was impacted first from behind, then again by the ground. A weak gasp escaped his lungs when the man's knee came down, forcing the air out of them. The position he was in made it pretty much impossible to retaliate, especially against someone stronger, but that wouldn't stop him from trying.
He struggled and squirmed against his captor, under the illusion that if somehow he could get up again it would change things. The words meant nothing to him at the present. Irritatedly Zain snapped his jaws. Nothing else was working so the boy grabbed at the arm that held his head off the ground. If he was allowed to grab hold of the limb, it would soon be enveloped in an intense heat.
