After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.

Kasumi quickly strutted up the stairs of the pinecone shaped prison building. The air at the top of the mountain was thin, but Kasumi was used to it. She passed through the tall dark double doors leading to the administrative offices. Her mother, the head of the prison, requested to see her - it seemed urgent. Kasumi rushed through the long corridor, her long braid waving behind her like a tail, until she reached her destination: a heavy red wood door, with a golden plaque embedded with the symbol "長" (meaning "chief"). Without stopping for a moment to think or even knock, Kasumi swung the door wide open and walked inside. The chief’s office was a well lit room in the shape of half a circle, in the middle of it stood a heavy stone desk with a wooden top surrounded by half a dozen dark wood chairs. The back wall was almost entirely glass, forming a giant window leading to a breath-taking view of the ocean, with lonely white clouds lazily floating over it, the view was always gorgeous on a clear day, and sometimes even more so during storms. Kasumi visited this office often but not even once cared to stop and appreciate the view. "You called?" she asked looking directly at her mother, the chief of the HATSUKA butai, a dark skinned woman with long dark brown dreads tied at her nape and piercing dark eyes. Tsuta raised her eyes from the papers on her desk "Yes," she answered "There is a new assignment, Kenzo Otari, A high level shinobi from our own Kumogakure has disappeared approximately a month ago, new sources indicate his disappearance is not by chance, but rather him going into hiding. He is accused of killing several high profile businessmen at the outskirts of the village" she explained, her voice very calm yet somehow strict. "The rest of the information is in this file" she added and closed a cardboard bound file on her table, as Kasumi reached to take the file she felt a boring sensation that somebody was looking at her. A quick use of Doton: Kenshutsumyaku quickly confirmed her suspicion: two. No, six legs standing behind her, a meter and a half or so from the entrance door. only two of them human though. Kasumi quickly turned around and looked the other person straight in the eyes, in front of her now stood a woman with spiky messy hair wearing a black and white mask with a wicked smile painted on. next to her, an almost jet black giant dog covered in long thick fur that only made him look even bigger. "ANBU?", Kasumi asked to the air, partially to Tsuta that was still behind her desk and partially to the person now in front of her.

There was a man who disappeared from Kumogakure some time ago. A shinobi if to be correct. The name is Kenzo Otari, not yet declared a rouge but the scouts around the village already had eyes looking for the man and the secret to his escape. 3 weeks and bodies were found. Bodies of important people. At this point the HATSUKA butai took it upon themselves to find him and bring him back.
By the Raikages order, a member of the ANBU interrogation division was to join in. There was information to be acquired. Something simply didn't smell good. Even if it was another shinobi going rouge for a random reason, there had to be a reason for him targeting specific individuals. All of the dead people were businessmen. All of them had high profiles and had a lot of power. Being summoned and assigned a mission was not a thing Hitomi was unfamiliar with. The man in charge of her gave her a simple file with information on the job as well as the place she need to be at. the uncommon thing was the hour. 4 am, it was not the time they would usually get their tasks. He said nothing. looking at the file she understood the reason of the unusually timed call. At 7 am she is to be at the great prison outside of the village deeper into the land. The prison that was keeping in check the most dangerous of criminals. Hitomi sure did want to see what kind of mind games can she play with those prisoners. And it was ,almost, what she was meant to do.
At the required time she came to the prison the way there was a pleasant one and her fluffy friends got a great morning run. The way was pleasant, the weather good and as there where going up the mountain to reach their destination air got thicker. Setokami was having a little of a hard time with is so the female ANBU with black and white mask took her into her arms for the rest of the climb. When they were up she left the pup with Torumaru at the entrance. going in with a puppy didn't look professional. Going in with all 3 dogs is inconvenient. Ordering the two to stay at their place and wait Hitomi 'told' Sumimaru to follow her in using only a small hand movement. He followed silently. heading to the top most level of the structure she reached the office of the HATSUKA butai's chief.
The door was wide open and there were two women inside. The chief herself who's face Hitomi knew by the data all ANBU are to learn, the other a very tall, pale skinned woman with a very, very long braid. Hitomi was surprised that she wasn't just as tall as she was, that woman was even taller than her. They silently came in. The Chief looked at her for a brief moment allowing the ANBU to understand she was notice. The young woman nodded with her head but saying nothing. THe other woman was looking at a similar file to the one Hitomi was given this very morning. When she turned around Hitomi saw that she has unordinary eyes, they were of a violet color. "ANBU?" she said in a slight surprised. Hitomi smirked under her mask and nodded with her head once again. "Indeed." was all that came out of her mouth.

"What the HELL?!" is what Kasumi wanted to say. "I’m not working with an ANBU!" is what she would say, if she was somebody else. Kasumi intended to maintain her stone faced elegance, especially now that there was a stranger near her. "There better be a good reason" she added half turning her head back to her mother; she opened the brown file and quickly glanced down to the papers inside. The first page was the data on her new partner; it had all of the standard fields, though most of them were redacted. Kasumi maintained a stone blank expression as she was skimming down the page, but an exceedingly sharp eye could notice a tinge of frustrated confusion as she flipped to the next page. The rest of the info was standard; a data page on the target (specially customized to include things like shoe size and gait), short data files of the victims, last location of residence, last location seen... standard. Kasumi snapped her file shut, and looked the ANBU directly in the eyes (or where the eyes should be, since the mask had no clearly visible eye slits). "This looks like standard job. Since when does the kage need the inside scoop on HATSUKA workings?” She asked, almost with contempt, and after a brief moment added "We bring results; it used to be all that mattered".

"This looks like standard job. Since when does the kage need the inside scoop on HATSUKA workings? We bring results; it used to be all that mattered". Were the words to leave the woman't mouth. She was unhappy and it only made Hitomi's mood better. She just loved it when people were feeling uncomfortable. Understanding that this was the woman she was going to work with made her feel that it will be an interesting job.
"What a reaction... She clearly held in a comment 'nicer' than that one." stated the massive beast beside the ANBU as it sat down. Hitomi came closer to the other woman. Looking at her file she saw the info about the victims and pointed at them. "You find the guy, I give him an 'interview'. After that, kill him or drag him back here, that is up to you." There was no need to say any more and the ANBU turned her back to he room. She put her hand on the dog's head giving him a fast pet and made her way out. The woman didn't look like she had any gear on her at this moment which means she she was bound to take a moment before joining her outside. It left the Hitomi a short moment to try and satisfy Setokami's demand for playing and feed her four legged friends before the leave.
Coming out she saw as the two remaining dogs were playing around happily. The moment they saw the two, they run to her, Toramaru sitting beside her 'like a good boy' "You took long!" came a complain for the male mixed dog. He never liked his owner leaving him behind or not letting him come with her. "Play with me! Play with me!" was all the pup was asking for. and so she did, setting Sumimaru on watch for the time when their companion from the mission will join them.

As the ANBU approached Kasumi, Kasumi shot a death stare at the ANBU's eyes (or their ideal location) and maintained it at her until she left the room. Only after she was sure the woman was out of range (with the help of Doton: Kenshutsumyaku again) she turned a perfect 180 turn on her heels and directed her death stare at the chief, "Explain?", she stated plainly. “There’s nothing to explain. It was a request by the Raikage and whether you want it or not, we all take orders from the kage" Tsuta replied calmly. Kasumi took a deep breath, it was a bitter pill, but it was one she had no choice but to swallow. "Alright, have it their way." Kasumi finalized with irritation, "I will need some spending cash, I...WE will be starting in an urban area". Tsuta reached into one of the drawers in her desk and took out a small satchel containing some banknotes and coins of different denominations. Kasumi stashed the satchel in a pocket, readjusted the straps on her pouches and senbon launcher, grabbed the folder tightly in her left hand and headed for the exit. Kasumi quickly rushed down the stairs and outside, where she saw the ANBU, the HIGHLY qualified take-orders-only-from-the-kage special soldier ANBU, standing on one knee playing tug with a tiny puppy with stumpy legs while surrounded by two other dogs: the black giant from before and another, striped dog staring enamoured of her owner. The polar shift of the ANBU image and the image laid before her eyes made her cock an eyebrow and swallow a chuckle. The black dog barked as soon as Kasumi showed up, Kasumi quickly walked towards the ANBU and slammed her file at her chest, pulling out some pages from the closed file and leaving only the ANBU data page (the data page that was so censored it had almost nothing beyond what Kasumi could see with her own eyes in front of her) inside the folder. "Were going, just make sure you keep up", she threw back without even turning her head as she headed for the path down the mountain

The air blowing in the direction of the door to the prison didn't help the Caucasian herder detect the prison worker before she got into the range od sight. It resulted in him barking, "She's here." the same moment as the oddle tall woman saw Hitomi playing around with the Corgi. There was still work to be done. Hitomi was surprised a bit to see the expression on her face. If earlier she looked confused not she had a spark of amusement in her eyes.
'Can resist a puppy, can you?' Was the thought thatcrossedd the ANBU's mind. Resulting in her grinning once more. She was gonna entertain herself with this new potential imformation. Setokami doesn't care who she plays with so why make the pup mess around with this 'angry companion' of thier? The mission file was shoved into Hitomi's chest. Moody isnt she? Well, at least now Hitomi knew the name of the woman. It was Ishihana Kasumi according to the name on the file. Must be the chief's kid. With every bit of information Hitomi saw a person she would have loved to 'play' with more and more.
6"We're going, just make sure you keep up." The much younger woman basicaly barked at her. Hitomi followed her adjusting her pace to Kadumi's and letting her lead the way right after picking up the pup, otherwise the small creature won't be able to keep up with them.
"You have the face of something between a cat who had it's tail stepped on and a kicjed pupoy. Be carfull not to be stuck with it." It wasnt true of course, at least not the part about being stuck with that face. Yet Hitomi made the comment just to see what will be the reaction. She might let it slide in silence but her body language will give it away.

Kasumi cocked her eyebrow again without turning back, she just continued down the stairs. She kept walking down the stairs with her pace gaining more and more speed, she did not intend to speed up but unlike the ANBU and her pets she was used to going up and down the mountain, the changes in pressure building up in her ears and pressing on her brain was something she was used to. Every dozen steps or so, Kasumi checked with Doton: Kenshutsumyaku whether the ANBU was keeping up and was she having a hard time with the rapid descent. The way down was long becasue of the isolated nature of the facility. Kasumi knew she could get down the mountain in 15 minutes if she was in a hurry or 20 or so minutes on a regular day, but she didnt believe the same would hold up for people who dont do the climb on a daily basis, no matter how physically trained and capable they were

The change in air pressure was slowly getting to Hitomi, her dogs were better than she was, that was for sure. Yet, Hitomi made sure to keep up. There was no chance she will give the woman leading her a reason to look down on her. Hitomi also wanted to see what kind of a person her temporary 'partner' is.
She already knew that the woman had high awareness of her surrounding and was constantly check ing on her. From that she understood that even if Kasumi had been unhappy with the way things are, she had a strong sense of responsibility, or was potentially the kind of person to follow orders even if she disagrees with them completely. Only time would tell what was it. Yet, Hitomi did wonder what majes this person seem like she despises the ANBU.
It didnt take long to reach the bottom on the mountain, about 20-25 minutes. There, breathing and moving around became easier. Realif washed over Hitomi's face, not like anyone could see it. Yet, the dogs could feel it well.

Kasumi noticed the fact the ANBU was indeed struggling. It wasn't anything visible; it was the way her steps got heavier and sloppier that indicated she was getting winded. Kasumi lowered her pace, just enough to allow her partner to catch up by a step or two and now rush as much. On the latter third (or so) of the stairway Kasumi reopened the pages she ripped out from the folder and continued the descent while reading them. (her familiarity with the steps as well as her feeling the way they go let her create a very precise mind image of the stairs and allowed her to go down the stairs as if she was looking at them). At the bottom of the stairs, Kasumi waited for a beat and let the ANBU catch up with her. When the ANBU was but a few steps away, Kasumi folded the papers she was reading and handed them to one of the guards who promptly set them on fire and let them burn. Kasumi threw a quick glance over her shoulder at the ANBU and started walking off to the north, "I hope you dont need a break yet? " she remarked over shoulder in a slightly mocking tone, "I'm planning to get to the next town before dinner".

The grin under the ANBU's mask grew wider. If there was something that was obvious is that this prison guard was more fit than her, far more fit. Must be the result of longer trainings and the life in this place. Hitomi like the idea that she might get to learn something new. Get an interesting idea for future training. Being down the mountain helped her body. She kept folowing the younger woman and trying to study her character. She wasn't an oponents or an enemy but Hitomi was going to have fun playing a game or two with her. For that, she needed information.

Kasumi made several steps away from the prison and when she noticed that the ANBU has not followed on her hint she turned around and riped the folder out of her hand. she quickly pulled the single page of paper out of it, and handed the now empty folder to the same guard with a sigh. Kasumi turned on her heels back to the ANBU and handed her her own data page (that included nothing but the most obvious things, it didnt even include Kasumi's custom feilds for shoe size and gait data... Of course, kasumi had plenty of time to learn those already) and started walking again, "You can explain this while we walk" she added coldly while her gaze shifted slowly to the stubby legged puppy tucked in the special agents arms that was curently napping in its newly aqcuiered warmth. "That as well probably..." she added in a more human tone.
