After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
One might think of special abilities as passive boosts to your character; while they cannot be classified as jutsu, they nevertheless define a character's combative style. These abilities can be compared to traits or feats, providing characters with a certain skill-set or physical property that sets them apart from others. Said abilities can be acquired through one of two ways; abilities can be assigned at character creation or earned through in-character efforts. While there is no limit to the number of special abilities one can earn in-character (though doing so requires administrator approval), the number of abilities one can start off with is determined by the character's rank. The chart in the section below denotes the maximum number of starting abilities, as well as additional details related to special ability selection.
Additionally, the special abilities that one is able to start with depends on how they organized their Paths of the Shinobi. Characters are initially unable to take abilities associated with their weakest Path - for example, a Jōnin whose weakest Path is Mind would be unable to take chakra control as one of their starting abilities.
New abilities that are purchased in-character can ignore the following restrictions, but require an approved veto to ensure members don't load up their characters with a potentially broken assortment of abilities.

Special abilities also serve as the means by which characters are assigned powers resulting from kekkei genkai, senjutsu training, and becoming a jinchuriki. Certain powerful techniques (see Forbidden Techniques) also consume a special ability slot. Characters who possess any of these abilities are considered to have an Advanced Position, all of which are detailed under the Advanced Position board in the guide book [found here]
Note that you are by no means limited to only the abilities listed below. If you have a custom ability you want to make for your character, or want to rename one of these abilities to make it sound prettier, by all means go for it! We encourage creativity, after all.
