After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.

Iku is a diminutive five foot two with a weight of one hundred and twenty-two pounds. Athletically built, with a narrow waist, flat stomach, and toned muscles from years of training, she's much more than just a pretty face. Her white hair is naturally wavy and hangs a few inches past the small of her back; she either wears it loose or in a braid. She has a heart-shaped face - wide forehead and pointed chin - with high, wide cheekbones, round magenta eyes, and full lips. Her only prominent scar is a thin, dark line about two inches long on her right cheek.
Iku's choice of clothing is based as much on style and flair as practicality, in all honesty. Shinobi have to fight, yes, but there's no reason she has to wear unattractive clothing while doing so, now is there? Her most common outfit consists of a long-sleeved white blouse, a many-pocketed navy bridge coat that's always left unbuttoned, a seven inch long skirt - with shorts underneath, of course; while it might prove entertaining, she doesn't exactly want to flash someone in the middle of a fight - and thigh-high white laced boots with a small heel. However, she does ditch this getup on occasion for plain standard shinobi gear and sandals - just don't expect it very often.
One of the first things a person would notice about Iku is her flirtatious nature. She'll flirt with just about anyone, really, provided that she finds them attractive, and she's not afraid to get in someone's personal space. It's hard to dissuade her unless she doesn't find you entertaining enough to tease. And that's all she really expects to get out of it - a little entertainment. And despite this behavior, she's not exactly promiscuous; she doesn't expect or usually even want anything to go much further than kissing. And an actual romance - hell no. She's had precisely one romantic relationship and that's enough to last her the rest of her life, as far as she's concerned. Everything's much more fun with no strings attached.
She's a mostly cheerful person, and often affects happiness in public even when she's upset. The whole world doesn't need to know her business so she's not going to wear her heart on her sleeve and be an open book for anybody to read. Iku is intensely private - for as much as she talks, she hardly ever says anything about herself or her personal life. It's difficult to get close enough to her that she's willing to reveal more than what a casual observer could notice. She doesn't want to get too close to people because she's afraid of getting hurt so instead she forms shallow relationships and refuses to get attached.
Iku has a quick temper and she's quick to get violent in order to solve her problems. She's not above threatening or attacking a comrade if they're the cause of her ire - and even if they're not, she might take it out on them anyway. Fighting and screaming at someone is the only way she really knows how to deal with her problems; she certainly hasn't been taught otherwise by anyone. Learning to control her temper is one of her main goals, but it's so damn difficult that trying to keep calm usually just makes her even more mad. Well, it's a work in progress... And it's probably going to stay in progress for a long while if her previous efforts are any indication.
Her dedication to being a shinobi can't be doubted. She spends most of her free time training to improve her skills with the ambition of one day being one of the village's top jounin. However, she often ignores skills like leadership and teaching in favor of purely physical training; she hasn't yet learned that that kind of power can't get you everything you want in life and you need a balance of physical and mental skills to truly become a well-rounded shinobi and person.
The story of Yasui Seiji and Nagano Mai is not a love story. He was a womanizing chuunin with a little too much time on his hands and she was a civilian employed at a dango shop. She waited on his table one night and he thought her pretty enough to pay attention to. So, he stuck around till the end of her shift and offered to walk her home. She accepted and he flirted with her the entire way home. Flattered by his behavior, she was eventually coerced into letting him into her bed. After that night, the two of them never saw each other again. In fact, after a couple weeks, their affair had slipped from her mind. Until the day she found out that she was pregnant, anyway. Her parents disapproved highly when she moved back into their house - she was a practical woman and knew that with her income alone, she wouldn't be able to support two children and pay rent on her apartment - but all the same, they loved their daughter, even if they thought it was foolish to bed a man at seventeen and keep his children despite being unmarried.
Without her mother's aid over at least the next few years, Mai didn't know what she would've done. One baby was bad enough, but two? And they were both loud and active and fond of getting into things they shouldn't. Iku and Kazue were the children from hell. They never listened, they did whatever they wanted, broke every rule she set down for them - and as the years passed, they started picking on each other. Kazue was the target ninety percent of the time, until she discovered that her sister would back off if she hit her hard enough. And then Iku figured out that she could hit back... And the violence escalated.
They knew from the age of six that they wanted to be shinobi, and their mother was more than willing to let them sign up for the academy when the time came so they would have a productive outlet for their energy and would, hopefully, stop beating each other up all the time. While that didn't work out exactly the way she wanted it to, the girls had found something that they really loved doing and she was happy for them. She knew that being a shinobi could be dangerous, but they were held in higher regard than civilians and were paid better because of the risks. Mai didn't want her girls to have to get low income jobs and struggle the way she had for the two years she'd lived on her own.
Iku was a pretty poor student; she didn't really pay attention in class or do homework unless the subject was learning taijutsu stances or how to throw shuriken or something else that was practical and that she could actually work on. She didn't see how written assignments were going to make her into an awesome ninja; she wanted to be able to kick ass, not write a report. Her twin looked down on her for her low grades, which often incited Iku's anger and led to the two of them fighting once again. Other than a few incidents where she decided to pick a fight in class or otherwise do something stupid, their years at the academy were pretty normal, and while she was near the bottom of the class, Iku did manage to graduate on her first try.
She was assigned to a genin team with two of her classmates, neither of which she knew very well, and a sensei that she thought was pretty lame because his main skill was genjutsu and that wasn't very flashy or interesting. Genjutsu battles took place inside the mind and she couldn't really watch them so, in all honesty, she pretty much dismissed genjutsu as a whole as not worth her time in the slightest. But she supposed her sensei was worth something; although he refrained from using taijutsu unless it was absolutely necessary, he was able to give her plenty of tips for physical conditioning and, when she proved interested in kenjutsu, information on different types of blades and how difficult it would be to use them. He was full of knowledge, and she had to admit that maybe knowing things was just as important as being able to throw a punch or swing a sword. It was too bad she hadn't realized that while in the academy.
Teamwork wasn't her strong suit. She wanted to be able to do everything without any help from the boys whose names she barely remembered. And they weren't too keen on working with her after the first few times they were on the wrong end of her quick temper. Their sensei pretty much had to beat it into them and threaten that he wouldn't let them go on C-Rank missions for years if they didn't shape up and work together. Well, that scared them into cooperation and they eventually learned that they were stronger as a cohesive unit than they were separately. Iku still has issues with teamwork because she doesn't really trust people in general, but she knows she has to suck it up and deal with it.
Until recently, she hadn't thought herself strong enough to want to try for the rank of chuunin. Her teammates were a little pissed that she was holding them back, but Iku was stubborn and refused to change her mind when she wasn't comfortable with the idea of the exams. She'd rather piss off her teammates than get herself killed for no good reason or something equally as unpleasant.
As of now, she's still just your average genin, and that's perfectly fine with her.
Kunai, shuriken, explosive tags, and ninja wire carried in left hip pouch; soldier pills kept in a jacket pocket; tachi worn in a plain sheath on her right hip.
Enhanced Agility: Most of Iku's training has been focused on agility. She's not really built to take hits and instead focuses on movement speed, balance, and flexibility to dodge attacks and (hopefully) remain on her feet or at least have the ability to quickly regain her footing after taking hits in the case that she isn't able to dodge. She's faster and has more balance than the average genin, along with quicker reflexes.
Kenjutsu Iku has spent the past four years learning how to wield a tachi, a light blade that compliments her agility well. While it can't be said that she's a master of kenjutsu by any means - that's a milestone that's pretty far away - she's good enough to almost match a chuunin-level swordsman and her ability grows by the day.
As can be expected, she uses a style based on quick attacks and that relies on avoiding the opponent's retaliation rather than attempting to block with her blade or take hits in order to get off a good hit of her own. Often this results in smaller cuts and lacerations, not major injuries - but in a prolonged battle, a multitude of small, bleeding cuts can lead to an opponent tiring more quickly and making sloppy movements, which would then allow her to go for a killing blow with less danger to herself than if she tried something like that at the beginning of a fight.
One-Handed Seals As a swordsman that also makes use of ninjutsu, it is imperative to be able to use both at the same time for the sake of convenience and practicality. Iku has learned to perform ninjutsu using one-handed seals so she can perform them whilst using her blade.
