After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
Jutsu (術; "skills/techniques") are the mystical arts that a typical ninja will utilize in battle to successfully defeat an opponent. To use a technique, the ninja will need to use their chakra. To perform a technique, the ninja will bring out and release the two energies of chakra. By forming hand seals, the ninja is able to manifest the desired technique. Because of the extensive number of hand seals and different combinations, there are thousands of potential techniques to be discovered. Without the proper control and utilization of one's chakra,, a ninja will produce ineffective or weakened technique which will lead to them running out of chakra early in a fight. To manipulate their chakra more easily, hand seals can be used. With these hand seals, users can control their chakra and technique with higher efficiency. Different techniques require different hand seals.
There are three main categories of jutsu which comprise of ninjutsu, genjutsu and taijutsu. Subcategories exist, which are either specific branches of one of the three mian types of jutsu or combinations or two or more different categories. The types of jutsu found on Desolation are each detailed here, and organized under the Path of the Shinobi they are associated with for the purposes of character creation.
Path of the Soul
Ninjutsu refers to almost any technique which allows the user to do something that they otherwise would be incapable of doing, including the usage of weapons. They vary greatly in purpose, with the simpler ninjutsu serving such tasks as transforming the user or allowing them to evade attacks. These techniques are often second-nature for experienced shinobi, who can use them at will. More complex ninjutsu manipulate one's surroundings or utilize the elements, respectively serving such tasks as healing others or manipulating nature transformations. There are two formal types of ninjutsu one can choose to excel in; shape transformation and nature transformation. While both types are involved in most ninjutsu to a certain extent (e.g. nature transformation makes fire, while shape transformation molds it into a projectile), one type generally holds a greater presence than other. That is to say, a shinobi who chooses to focus on Shape Transformation would excel in technique that require minimal use of nature transformation, and vice-versa.
Shape transformation deals with controlling the form, movement, and potency of chakra. Techniques utilizing shape transformation consist of any chakra-intensive task that does not produce an illusion, create or modify an element. Examples of shape manipulation include the Shadow Clone technique and Rasengan; both involve shaping chakra without utilizing the chakra manipulation elements.
Nature transformation usually deals with changing the physical properties of chakra into an element. Using this chakra transformation allows one to produce and control one of the five basic chakra elements, and enables kekkei genkai users to control their respective advanced nature releases.
Summoning Techniques are a subcatgegory of ninjutsu that allows a shinobi to call forth fantastic creatures and constructs through chakra expenditure. In order to perform a these techniques shinobi must sign a contract, which details who or what exactly the shinobi is able to summon and the method by which to do so. Traditionally one uses the Kuchiyose no Jutsu [Summoning Technique] to bring forth contracted beasts and items, though specific summons might require an alternative technique. These differing summoning techniques can additionally alter the contracted item or creature, permitting it unique properties or ability than enhance it's usefulness in combat. However, such alterations are generally very chakra-intensive, and their difficult increases in relation to the rank of the summoning's target.
Path of the Mind
Genjutsu (幻術; "Illusionary Techniques") are techniques that are employed in the same fashion as ninjutsu, requiring chakra and hand seals. However, the primary difference between the two is that the effects of genjutsu are illusory; instead of attacking the victim's body, like taijutsu or ninjutsu, genjutsu techniques manipulate the flow of chakra in the victim's brain, thus causing a disruption in their senses. Genjutsu very fittingly falls into the category of the Yin Release. This is frequently used to create false images or to cause pain from trauma (because the body is led to believe it is in pain); however, there are plenty of other uses depending on the situation.
Iryō Ninjutsu (医療忍術, Medicla Ninjutsu) is a subdivision of ninjutsu that includes techniques focusing on healing effects.
In order to use Iryō Ninjutsu, a character cannot have the Mind or Soul Paths as their weakest paths.
Fūinjutsu (封印術, Sealing Techniques) is a branch of the shinobi arts that seals objects, living beings, and chakra within another object. Likewise these techniques can be used to separate sealed objects from their container. Fūinjutsu require the use of seal arrays, which are series of kanji and symbols laid out in a specific pattern, which acts as the "interface" between the object being sealed and that which it is sealed within. These arrays can be drawn out by hand or produced instantaneously via specialized techniques; damaging said arrays can disrupt the sealing process, releasing the sealed object into the world.
Path of the Body
Taijutsu (体術; "Body Techniques") is a basic form of techniques and refers to any techniques involving the martial arts or the optimization of natural human abilities. Taijutsu is executed by directly accessing the user's physical and mental energies, relying on the stamina and strength gained through training. It typically does not require chakra, though chakra may be used to enhance its techniques. Taijutsu generally requires no hand seals to perform, occasionally making use of certain stances or poses, and are far quicker to use than ninjutsu or genjutsu. Taijutsu is, simply put, the art of hand-to-hand combat and the many styles one can can use in its practice.
Bukijutsu is the art of combining a shinobi's martial prowess and superhuman physical attributes in conjunction with a weapon.
Characters whose weakest Path is the Body cannot use advanced shinobi weaponry beyond shuriken, kunai, and senbon
Nintaijutsu is unique in that it combines elements from the Path of the Soul in addition to martial combat abilities emphasized by the Path of the Body. This style of combat utilizing ninjutsu to augment one's taijutsu skills, either bolstering one's physical abilities or imparting additional effects to one's strikes. The most prominent example of this combat style comes from the Third and Fourth Raikage's Lightning Release Armor, which infused their bodies with raiton chakra that augmented their strength, speed, and reflexes far beyond their base capabilities.
In order to use Nintaijutsu, a character cannot have the Body or Soul Paths as their weakest paths.
