After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
The Enoki are an easy clan to pick out of a crowd due to their catlike appendages. Instead of having normal human ears, they have cat ears on top of their heads, and they have tails proportional to the size of their body. These appendages are as soft as a cat's fur and are usually the same color as the clan member's hair. Their tongues are similar to a cat's, and have the rough, sandpapery texture. Some, but not all, members of the clan have catlike eyes, pointed canine teeth, and sharp fingernails as well.
They are also distinct due to other catlike behaviors, such as fluid movements, grace, and balance, as well as the ability to purr.
The story of the clan begins with a man named Enoki Osamu. His family had a contract with a clan of large cat summons that aided them in battle. They were known as fierce warriors that fought as one with their companions.
Well, Osamu decided that he wanted the cats to be companions in more than just battle. He summoned the leader of the cat clan, a female named Kenmei, and set about seducing her. She allowed him to mate with her after some coercion. Not satisfied, she made use of the Henge to transform into a beautiful woman, and they mated once more.
Imagine the surprise of the clan when Kenmei turned out to be pregnant. Osamu had a lot of (rather awkward) explaining to do, as one might imagine. There was much debate over what to do in the situation at hand; many wished to terminate the pregnancy and prevent whatever abomination it would spawn from living a mostly horrible and probably short life. Others advocated to let her carry it to term in the name of science. Osamu and Kenmei demanded that their child be left alone, whatever it may turn out to be.
Thankfully, their child was born healthy. She had cat ears and a tail, and most of her body was covered in a thin layer of striped brown fur. She was intelligent and responsive, and there didn't appear to be anything wrong with her. They raised her like they would a normal child, and she proved to function just fine. In fact, she outdid many of her relatives in terms of natural skill.
So, the clan held a meeting. The hybrid turned out to be quite the success, and they wanted to decide whether or not it would be beneficial to encourage this type of relationship between the clan and the summons. After a very long and detailed story from Osamu, and some deliberation, they decided yes, they were absolutely going to encourage those of prime reproductive age to have intercourse with the cat summons.
Over the next several centuries, many things changed. For one, the clan of summons that the Enoki were bonded to went extinct, meaning no more generation one hybrids, or hybrid/summon offspring. They did discover that the hybrids were capable of breeding with regular humans, and nine times out of ten they produced similar hybrids.
Their catlike features evolved; they slowly lost the thin fur coat, being that it proved unnecessary; and their senses improved and changed. Upon reaching what was believed to be the optimum hybrid, easily detectable evolution slowed, and eventually, halted almost entirely.
The members of the clan scattered to the four winds, taking up residence in various shinobi villages. Many of them remain unaffiliated to this day, or live in small villages as civilians. One can find them just about anywhere, provided that one looks hard enough.
The clan is still small in number, and are rarely concentrated in groups of more than two or three to a village. Some lines have died out completely because of a lack of reproduction. Still, they are a tenacious lot, clinging to survival with tooth and claw.
LEGACY OF POWER
The Enoki clan, being hybrids of cat summons and humans, have the best traits of each species. Thus, they have many catlike features and abilities.
They have much better balance and dexterity than the average person, and tend to move with a natural grace. Their ears grant them enhanced hearing - they can hear at higher frequencies than normal humans, and their ears not only amplify sound but allow them to detect what direction the sound is coming from.
They have excellent night vision and can see at a quarter of the light level required for normal humans to see. However, they have relatively poor color vision - their ability to see reds, oranges, and browns is severely limited; these colors appear as shades of purple or gray. In contrast, they see purples, blues, and greens much more vividly than most people.
Members of the clan also have a better sense of smell than normal humans - about twice as good, to be precise. Male members of the clan are able to detect another male by their scent, and also know when females are in heat due to scents that regular people can't pick up. They're also very sensitive to plants containing nepetalactone, including catnip.
They has less of a response to sweet tastes and more of a response to bitter tastes and acids due to a gene mutation in their taste buds that is similar to that of domestic cats.
Females of the clan go into heat during the days they are ovulating. They produce a scent that is picked up by males, letting them know that it's the optimum time to mate. They tend to become more affectionate and vocal during this time period, and are more receptive to the possibility of intercourse. If they are impregnated, they carry the baby for nine months, just like normal humans.
Many substances that are poisonous to cats are also poisonous to members of the clan. This includes acetaminophen, aspirin, some essential oils, ethylene glycol, phenol-based products, chocolate, and large amounts of onion or garlic. Some, but not all, of them are lactose intolerant.
Their dietary needs are different from that of the average human, requiring a larger amount of meat - preferably a mix of chicken or turkey and some sort of red meat. While they can tolerate raw meat, most prefer to cook it because of taste and the potential that the raw meat contains harmful bacteria.
They eat fewer grains, fruits, and vegetables than the average person because they don't need as much. However, they have to make sure there's enough calcium and taurine in their diets. Some change their diets to reflect this; others prefer to take supplements.
This technique improves the user's vision, just like if they were wearing night vision goggles. They see in shades of green, and while it is still clearly dark, they are able to see better. When the technique is deactivated, it takes a minute or two for their eyes to readjust.
This technique allows the user to temporarily grow a set of whiskers. These whiskers give the user a heightened sense of feeling and helps them detect and respond to even the most minute of changes in their environment. When the technique is deactivated, the user experiences disorientation for a short period of time.
This technique makes the user's skin more like that of a cat's, supple and flexible. This allows them greater flexibility in movement and allows them to absorb physical blows better. However, they can also be picked up by the back of their neck, like one would pick a cat up by its scruff, which could prove dangerous in battle. The effects of this technique last for two to three hours.
This technique makes the user's fingernails elongated and as sharp as a cat's claws, allowing them to cause damage to the opponent by scratching them. The technique deactivates after about fifteen minutes.
This technique improves vision to the level that it's like the user is wearing heat-vision goggles, allowing them to detect life forms by their heat signals. A cold mist, or steam, etc., could obscure the signals of the life forms they are searching for, providing a drawback - since the user can only see in heat vision, something like mist that they could normally see through becomes an actual obstacle. After it is deactivated, there is a ten minute period of blindness as their eyes readjust.
This technique makes the user more feral. Their nails and canine teeth are elongated and sharpened, they have a set of whiskers that improve their response to changes in the environment, and most of their body is covered in a thin layer of chakra-enhanced fur that can prevent weapons like kunai and shuriken from doing as much damage.
The major drawback to this technique is that the user completely loses their ability to have rational thought. They devolve into a completely feral, instinct-driven state where they cannot distinguish between enemy and friend. There is a serious risk involved with using this technique, but the extra power it grants the user is often considered worth it.
