After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
Uzu'Nara Shikashu sat on the overhanging, slanted, roof of his apartment building. His muscular arms rested on his legs as he looked out over the village. Rested in the shade of the overhang was his ninken partner, a white brindle akita, Shirokage. Together the two were thoroughly enjoying the wondrous weather that had graced Konoha today. It was sunny, with large fluffy clouds lazily drifting on the breeze as they hugged the brilliant blue sky. A gentle breeze also graced the village making even the summer's heat feel as though nothing but a distant memory.
"Heh, are you as happy as I am... Shiro?" Shikashu spoke causing the ninken to raise her head slightly before readjusting her position. "Depends," was the only word uttered from her muzzle, barely audible enough for her partner to hear. "Eh? What do you mean it depends?" Shikashu grew somewhat flustered for a moment before chuckling and settling back down, "The academy is going to be ending classes soon." Shirokage cast her gaze up towards the under-part of the overhang, to the area where her partner sat. "Wanna go greet Kodane," he asked as he slid off of the roof and landed, on his feet, on the ground two stories down with ease. Shirokage jumped up from her spot, "Sure." With that the two began to go for a stroll.
Kodane's protest fell on deaf ears. She growled, hands firmly grasped behind her back, standing stock-still to avoid dropping the steel pail of water that balanced meticulously on top of her head. She'd have stuck her tongue out at the sensei had she not been sure the action would overbalance the water. After five minutes of standing still, her supervisor made the mistake of looking the other way when something particularly noisy caught his attention. 'Lucky!' With the man's attention elsewhere, she bolted, some of the water spilling onto her head before bolting the scene of her crime, which she really did commit. She shook the water from her head like a dog and took off, the loud clatter of the pail hitting the ground alerting her babysitter to her escape, but she'd already merged into the crowd.
Poking the ferrets in her shirt—the real culprits, she carefully maneuvered the people to casually not be noticed by the sensei. As she walked, she noticed a tall, familiar face topped with red hair and dashed toward it. Reaching him, she dashed behind him to hide from the pursuing academy teacher.
“Pretend I'm not here, Shika-sensei.” I am not sure the suffix Kodane is to use to call Shikashu by. :v
Shikashu couldn't help but stifle a laugh when he noticed that Kodane had gotten in trouble once again. Needless to say that his influence likely wasn't one of the best influences on her, but he had a sneaking suspicion that, like always, it wasn't exactly her fault that she was being punished. So of course, when she bolted as soon as the other teacher was distracted he wasn't surprised. In fact, he was even less surprised by the fact that she hid behind him. Ah well, guess he spoiled her a little too much. Still, this was too amusing and if she were to be caught here, well that would spoil his own plans. Now he couldn't have that, that would be too much of a pain after all.
"Shiro-chan," he took a ball out of his pocket. It was a small black ball. "Play along, kay?" Yup he was definitely doing this. He lobbed the ball high up into the air angled towards the pissed off sensei. Shirokage, spotting the ball, couldn't resist the urge to leap up after it, only there was one small issue once it was secured. That issue resulted in an 80 lb dog standing atop a squirming full grown man, before with a very wet, "woof." dropping the slobbery ball on his head as her tail wagged at a mile a minute. "Oh geeze sorry Souou." Shikashu walked up to the man, who by now was too concerned with the dog that was slobbering all over his face with wet kisses, and bent over slightly to look at him with his hands shoved into the pockets of his trousers. "Shiro-chan, come." With that Shirokage bounded off of the man who got up, slowly, to his feet in somewhat of a daze.
"Seriously man, sorry about that. I kind of threw the ball to hard," speaking of which, Shirokage now came up to his side having resecured the ball and gave another muffled, wet, "woof." The man gave an irritated sigh and waved the man off, no longer giving a single fuck about the student that had ran away. Most likely because he knew she was Shikashu's ward. At that moment Shikashu shrugged his shoulders and slipped back into the crowd of people as the sensei wandered back to the academy.
"Do I need to ask what happened," Shikashu asked Kodane once he had relocated and approached her.
Pale violet eyes peeked in curiosity from around the man as he flung the ball at Souou-sensei. She could always count on Shika-sensei, couldn't she? Two teardrop-shaped heads peered out from the top of her shirt, watching with snickers as the dog tackled into the man she was running from. Kodane stayed where she was when Shika-sensei went to help Souou-sensei, stiffening when the Nara turned back to look at her.
"Do I need to ask what happened?"
The student kicked at a leaf on the pavement.
“I may or may not have hit him in the head with an eraser for not calling on me all day today even though I had my hand raised lotsa times.”
Her big eyes looked waaay up to see his, Pixie and Moxie climbing loose from her clothes to greet the large, slobbering dog.
Shikashu grinned at his ward's response. That was so like her to the point that he couldn't even be mad at her for doing something so stupid to get herself in trouble. "I see," he placed a large hand on her head, "Well I could pick on ya if ya'd like?" He was somewhat joking but the smaller purple haired girl would likely know at the same time he was being somewhat serious. "I have a lot of free time today so want to play the usual 'game'?" When speaking with Kodane, she knew what he meant wasn't so much a game as it was him helping her in getting even stronger so she could show those dumbass boys in her class, and family, who's boss.
As Shikashu spoke to Kodane, Shirokage dropped the ball at his feet, not so much because she wanted him to throw it, but more so because she was currently engaging in an intense staring contest with the two fluffy furrets that popped out of Kodane's jacket. She never really spoke with them though.

"I see," Kodane jerked her head to the side when the large hand came down on top of it, just barely allowing the man to pet her. She was not a pet she was a shinobi. Well... in-training."Well I could pick on ya if ya'd like?"
Kodane's eye's sparkled. Shika-sensei knew how to make her feel important.
“Yeah!”
"I have a lot of free time today so want to play the usual 'game'?"
He asked like there was any question as to what her answer would be. Of course she wanted to play. One of these days, she'd beat him at the card game, and she'd be known all over the village for beating one of the super-smart Naras at a game of chance.
“I'll beat you this time, Shika-sensei,” she promised with a wide grin.
Meanwhile on the ground, the two weasels stared down the much, much larger dog.
“Playing catch, doggie? Be careful~ I heard dogs lose a brain cell for every bounce of their ball.”
The creamy white ferret found her muzzle clamped shut by brown paws.
“Pixie,” came Moxie's hiss, “Don't talk to Shiro-sama like that.”
The creamy ferret stuck her tongue out at the banded one, but dipped her head in apology. Didn't they know? Insults were how she said “hello.”
Shikashu nodded to her response and began to lead the small little caravan out towards the Nara compound and the area of town where his apartment complex was. There was a wide open area near his complex that was never in use and thus, perfect for their little game. Well much more perfect than the training grounds anyway. It would take them about ten minutes to reach their destination just walking, so in the meantime Shikashu decided for a little conversation while Shiro padded by his side now ignoring the words of the tiny little ferrets in favor of keeping pace with her partner.
"So how are you doing in your classes," he asked her as he shoved his hands into his pockets, "Have my tips and pointers been helping any?"
Kodane bounced along happily behind Shika-sensei, hands stuffed into the pockets of her sweatshirt. She loved playing together with him. The two ferrets on the ground gave their characteristic bizarre run before eying the dog, scurrying up the canine to ride on her back like the lazy ferrets they were.
"So how are you doing in your classes," pale violet eyes glanced up at the tall man, "Have my tips and pointers been helping any?"
Kodane paused, thinking of one particular bit of advice he'd given her.
"Kodane there are several things you need to remember. However the most important one of all, is to never abandon your comrades. Even when you're staring death in the face, never abandon those along side you...."
She remembered a class trip. They'd gone to a far part of the Fire Country to practice survival and scouting. At one rest area there had been a waterfall, and her friend, Jirona, had been standing at the edge of the river to admire the rushing water. Well, a large boy, the meanest kid in the class, thought it would be an absolutely wonderful idea to shove Jirona into the water. Well, even if Jirona did know how to swim, she wouldn't have been able to do anything against the fast moving current, and she toppled over the edge of the waterfall. Miraculously, a branch had been jutting out, and the girl got caught up on it, dangling hundreds of feet in the air.
Kodane had remembered Shika-sensei's words and had scaled down the slippery rocks herself to try and save Jirona. However, she didn't know wall climbing or water walking (she still didn't know water walking, honestly), so it had been suicide trying to save the girl. But she was determined to save her. Kodane wasn't going to abandon her friend, even if it meant staring death in the face, just like Shika-sensei had said.
It had been the supervising academy instructor that had saved both girls from falling to a watery death. Trying to save the girl herself instead of calling for help? Kodane had gotten in so much trouble, and she couldn't understand what she did wrong. But the bully in the background laughing at her for getting in trouble was the last straw. The ferrets who had been hiding in her shirt were sent forward towards the male, diving into his clothes, each going up a leg. Two sets of sharp fangs sunk into tender family jewels, and even though the resulting, ear-splitting yowl was satisfying, it did nothing to help Kodane's case.
“I tried doing what you told me to, but I only got in trouble for trying to get down the waterfall to rescue Jirona-chan. I was staring death in the face and not abandoning her! I don't know what I did wrong!”
Shiro watched to two little ferrets skitter along for a moment, but when they climbed up onto her back she couldn't help but shiver. She hated it when things smaller than her touched her, especially those horrible little demons that the humans called bugs. They were so gross and disgusting. So when the little ones climbed up onto her back she couldn't hep but find herself running around and bucking like an unbroken horse. It was just so disturbing to feel something smaller than you ride on your back.
Meanwhile when Kodane explained what had happened Shikashu only found himself laughing. "Well it's nice to know you took my words to heart, but you should have probably let your teacher handle rescuing her. There is more than one way to not abandon your comrades than physically going to rescue them yourself." He shoved his hands into his pockets and watched now as Shirokage freaked out, "Slow down Kodane. Analyze the situation, and act accordingly. There will be times where you are unable to do that, but the more you do, the faster decisions will come to you. Some of them may even surprise you." As Shirokage continued to run around in circles Shikashu soon found that he was beside himself with laughter. However after a couple of minutes he went to the dog with blinding speed and caught her, "It's okay Shiro, they aren't going to hurt you."

Pink dusted Kodane's cheeks when Shika-sensei laughed at her. Was he making fun of her hard work? She puffed her cheeks as he spoke back.
"Well it's nice to know you took my words to heart, but you should have probably let your teacher handle rescuing her. There is more than one way to not abandon your comrades than physically going to rescue them yourself."
“I had everything under control,” she muttered. She most certainly hadn't but she sure felt like she did at the time.
"Slow down Kodane. Analyze the situation, and act accordingly. There will be times where you are unable to do that, but the more you do, the faster decisions will come to you. Some of them may even surprise you."
“Eheheh...” the girl awkwardly laughed, rubbing the back of her head. “Sorry, Shika-sensei.”
The girl's attention span was soon distracted by the dog completely freaking out, Pixie and Moxie clutched into her thick fur both looking absolutely enthralled to be riding a bucking bronco-kage. Kodane found herself in a fit of giggles. She wiped the tears from her eyes when the Nara finally rescued Shiro-sensei.
"It's okay Shiro, they aren't going to hurt you."
“We just might,” came Pixie's cheeky reply. Moxie, however, vacated the canine and opted to instead jump on his shirt, sharp little claws allowing his snakey little body to scale the redhead with ease, taking a seat nestled against his neck. Why ride the dog when you can ride the master? That was so much better, in the masked ferret's opinion.

"Sorry, Shika-sensai." Kodane replied to his words, making the Nara cast his gaze to her before going to rescue his companion from the terror of the terrible two. When he uttered his words to calm the Akita and the sassy little ferret replied with, "We just might," a dangerous grin appeared on the Jounin's face as he quickly went to snatch up the white one while the maxed one went to climb up his jacket to rest around his neck. "Can't be having you torment my partner, now can I?" He sat the ferret on Kodane's head, "Now sit there and think about what you've done," he said those words in a rather non-serious and more chastising tone before taking a couple steps back so Pixie couldn't simply leap to his shoulder or something from her master's head.
After a bit of more walking Shikashu looked down to Kodane, "What were you sorry for earlier? Its not like you did anything wrong. You're still learning after all," He reached up, and rubbed the back of his neck, careful not to jar the male ferret that had hitched a ride meanwhile Shirokage padded next to him clearly happy to be rid of the 'vermin'. "Even I make mistakes Kodane. The difference between my mistakes and a student's however, can be something such as life and death. You have to make sure that when you do make mistakes, especially at your tender age, that you learn from them. Otherwise they could be costly down the road." He sighed a rather depressing sigh before picking up the mood again, "But hey, in other news, did you hear that I have a genin team now? Sure that means I won't be able to see you as much, but you're in your last year at the academy right?" He paused for a moment before continuing, "I only have two genin, a standard team has three genin and a sensei."

"Can't be having you torment my partner, now can I?"
The ferret puffed out her furry little cheeks—a habit she'd picked up from her master—when she was snatched and placed on top of Kodane's head.
"Now sit there and think about what you've done,"
She huffed, gripping into the student's hair.
“I di'n't do nothin' wrong.”
“Yes you did,” came the dry reply of her brother from around the man's neck. “Now suffeeeeerrr.”
“Pixie, Moxie, knock it off.”
Kodane lifted the white ferret off of her head and clutched her under her arm. She took a few steps forward towards Shika-sensei to fetch Moxie from around the redhead's neck, but froze completely when her fingers brushed the taller man's warm neck. Pink dusting her cheeks, she recoiled her hand.
“Just stay there, yeh little weasel.”
She immediately turned her lilac gaze to the dog. She watched Shiro-sensei walk, amused at how the akita had bucked around with the ferrets riding her back, the mental image taking her mind off of the male and forcing her to giggle.
"What were you sorry for earlier? Its not like you did anything wrong. You're still learning after all."
She ducked her head, embarrassed all over again.
"Even I make mistakes Kodane. The difference between my mistakes and a student's however, can be something such as life and death. You have to make sure that when you do make mistakes, especially at your tender age, that you learn from them. Otherwise they could be costly down the road."
Whatever response she would have had for why she was sorry completely blew out the window when he said she was at a “tender age.”
“I am not a tender anything!” she protested loudly. “I'm twelve years old and almost a certified kunoichi! That makes me practically an adult!”
The angry vibes just rolled off of the girl.
"But hey, in other news, did you hear that I have a genin team now? Sure that means I won't be able to see you as much, but you're in your last year at the academy right?"
She stuck her tongue out at him, still mad about being called “tender.” “I bet you can't even teach them to pat their heads and rub their bellies at the same time, let alone how to ninja, Shika-sensei!” That was kinda mean though, wasn't it? She deflated a bit.
"I only have two genin, a standard team has three genin and a sensei."
Her expression scrunched. Did he just...? He did not. The anger melted away and she squealed, latching on to him in a hug.
“I'm gonna study really hard and try to get on your team! Better prepare yourself!”
After a few long moments, Kodane's eyes shot open. Oh my god I am hugging him. Releasing her grip, she backed up, arms still stiffly out, face beet red. Right, she should hug Shiro-sensei too. That would make it seem so much more casual. Eyes going directly to the canine, she dived the beast to hug her around the neck.
Post by Nara Shikashu on Nov 18, 2014 14:27:15 GMT
When she suddenly hugged him, he went to place a large hand on her head, and he was about to say something about how she had been acting strange lately when suddenly she pounced onto Shiro-chan with a huge hug for her too. This instead left the jounin beside himself with laughter for a minute or so. "You better work damn hard. I expect nothing less from you after all."
Watching Kodane at the age she was at, it always reminded him of how he was when he was younger. Sure he had his lazy moments as did most of the Nara clan, but more than anything else, he exhibited traits of the Uzumaki clan. At her age he was often outgoing and rambunctious, and it had certainly gotten him into more than just a couple of scraps with the authorities as well as wildlife. Hell almost all of them ended up with his mother chucking him across the living room and through the wall into the bathroom. On more than one occasion did they have to replace their toilet, and Shikashu kind of felt bad for his dad after all he married the She Wolf.
Before they'd know it, they're reach their destination. It was a nicely wide area within the complex of some appartments. Since it was still early in the afternoon most of the tenants were still out and about in the village leaving the two, or rather five, with plenty of space and time to themselves. Here in this wide open area, were several trees one of them with a rope and wood bench swing under it, and another with several lacerations from what appeared to be a kunai, made even more apparent with a kunai stuck in the bark way up in the tree. Hell the space was even wide enough that there was a shallow pond, shallow to Shikashu's standards at least, in the middle of the grassy area. "So I have an idea on something we could work on today Kodane." He removed Moxie from around his neck and sat the ferret on her head as he had done with Pixie earlier. "How is your control over your chakra so far?"

"You better work damn hard. I expect nothing less from you after all."
She raised her hand in a salute after releasing Shiro-sensei.
“I won't let you down.”
They walked on for a while longer, and Kodane looked on in curiosity as she was taken to an apartment complex, looking waaaay upwards to the top of it. It sure seemed tall. She looked around at the area as well. It sure seemed neat. She trotted off to examine the rope swing, sitting on it to gently swing and examine the features of the area. It seemed some people liked to play ninja around here, because the trees were scuffed up, some even had weapons still sticking out of them. What a waste!
"So I have an idea on something we could work on today Kodane."
Lilac eyes looked up to the man, having just been ready to pluck a slightly rusted shuriken from the tree behind her. Kodane snuggled Moxie to her chest when Shika-sensei put him on her head, opting to pay attention instead of play with the shuriken.
"How is your control over your chakra so far?"
“Uhm.”
The girl paused, looking at the water and then the building and then the shuriken and then the dog and then the everywhere except Shikashu.
“It's...better...than it used to be.”
Yeah, she needed to work on it more. It seemed her sensei at the academy was annoyed with teaching her, for whatever reason. It couldn't possibly be the ferret allergy, could it?
The Uzunara placed his hands on his hips and gave her a big grin at hearing her answer. "I see so still need some work eh? Well then let's work on that today." He looked around him at the surrounding area for a moment before walking over to the tree the swing was attached to and leaning against it. He folded his arms across his chest at that point and Shirokage padded over before laying down in the grass at his feet. "So here's what we're going to do. I'm going to make sure that by the end of this week, you have not only mastered the basic academy standard techniques, but you also have a couple of other useful techniques under your belt." He cast a sideways look at her.
That smile appeared on his face again, "Once you're done with my training Kodane, you should have no problem passing the end test." A rogue gale brushed past them toying with his hair and dancing with a few stray leaves before leaving them. "Understood?" He was likely going to go above and beyond with this training for her. Since he had left the other two with independant study, since they needed to learn clan related things from their clan elders, for the time being, he had quite a bit of free time for the next couple of weeks. Time that he was going to focus on training the third candidate for his team.
