After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
At first glance Hitori appears to be about the size and shape of a red-tailed hawk, thought with a few key differences. First is that her entire plumage is flame-colored, from a deeper red and trailing down to a softer golden color towards the tips of her feathers, and the second being a tail that proportionally is more like a Macaw's. From tip to tip her wingspan is 4 feet.
Hitori's first impression (and typically response) is abrasive and a little aloof. There are few phoenixes in the world and she takes pride in being one, though she's currently the 'youngest' phoenix from Mount Akahane. Even though she's not had much experience with the outside world (her 'duty' while she is with Mitsunari), she's quite cynical and doubtful of what other people may say or do. She accepts praise very readily, though she is at least humble enough to try (not very hard mind you, but she tries) to give credit where credit is actually due. Unfortunately for her, she has developed close feelings with Mitsunari, and doubly unfortunate for her, he doesn't catch any of the subtle signs. That combined with the species difference increases her frustration which she (naturally) takes out on Mitsunari who (naturally) takes it in stride, causing the two of them to laugh about it and draw closer in a vicious cycle.
A phoenix of Mount Akahane, doesn't truly 'die.' Upon a physical death (as phoenixes do not die from 'old age') their body burns into ashes that scatter in the wind. They will be reborn from an egg on the mountain, but their memories all pass on to Suzaku-hime - the progenitor of all phoenixes. Then they are born anew with no memories of their past lives, though their skillset as they grow back to full strength will be largely the same (as an example: Hitori's focus has always been on wide-scale katon techniques, not on healing or direct combat).
The tears of a phoenix have curative properties to them, though Hitori does not focus or emphasize them. If she does deem to cry in order to help an individual, her tears help accelerate the affected individuals recovery time, but doesn't actually 'cure' their injuries. It advances recovery by about a week, but the rapid recovery is only possible through the injured's own chakra and stamina. It advances the injury's healing by about one week, but exhausts the injured person's body, possibly causing complications due to the strain, therefore she doesn't like to make use of this ability often, if at all (also doesn't like crying either).
As a highly intelligent 'animal,' Hitori can utilize ninjutsu. Most often she uses minor genjutsu to pass off as human in lands far away from Mount Akahane to avoid attracting the attention she would in her phoenix form. When she is passing off as human she tends to prefer a form of a slender, long-haired, red-headed woman appearing to be about 17 years of age, with feathers of a similar color to her own decorating her clothes
