After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
It had been a painstakingly long process to allow himself to fully recover after that incident with the boars. He could have damn well lost his life during that fight, but thankfully the brat had been there to help him out. Not like he wanted her help in the first place, but she never did listen to what others told her. In the end, it was thanks to her that he was able to fully recover. Well that and some well done laying low on his part to avoid detection from the hunter-nin that were constantly after his rare hide. Seriously those guys could not pick worse times to show up, but thankfully it had been months since Saverio had last seen one, and now, he was growing bored. Or rather he was.
Since he had fully recovered he had decided to set out on an errand run. Well needless to say that this errand run required him to do quite the extensive amount of traveling and the first location of which he had gone to had been a small village in the land of tea, or rather on the border of the land of tea and the land of fire. Of course getting there was no easy feat, what with all of the mammoth boars and wolf pigs chasing after him constantly. Yes, wolf pigs. Nasty little bastards. Still Saverio had made it in the end, and at this point constantly wore Samekiba at his hip to replace the blade he had broken at the time his own arm broke.
He visited the little town only to have to fight back hordes of drunken bastards on his way to visit what might as well be known as the best goddamn blacksmith of all time. Of course he didn't kill any of the men, no didn't want the authorities on his tail right now, but that didn't mean they didn't end up flying through the heavens to land on the woman's side of the bath house. Yup. That would take care of him. Especially once he heard the satisfying squeals of all of the women. Yup. They were gonners. Now then, back to the blacksmith.
The blacksmith was a stubborn old fool like always, however still a dear friend from back when he was a loyal shinobi. The man didn't care who or what his customers were so long as they were willing to pay the coin and didn't bring the wrong sort of crowd to his establishment. Only every time someone came to him for work to be done, he always insisted on one thing, and that was the mandatory five hour story time. No, he didn't want to remember the spoon.
Thankfully the blacksmith told him to return in a week's time for the finished product, a new wrist long-blade, and sent him on his way. Which led to his second errand, replenishing his supplies. Saverio knew of a quaint little town in Taki no Kuni, and while that was definitely going to be a trek, to and from, that would be longer than seven days, it would be worth it in the end to go. Back to the village; so this quaint little village was very remote. Hidden off of the beaten path in the thicket of the vast jungles of Taki no Kuni, but it itself was not the destination the man had in mind, but rather the general location. He knew of a special sort of tree that grew in Taki no Kuni, and more so than that, but a peddlar that lived not far from the quaint little village that dealt in the goods the tree produced. Something he required in his line of work.
So here he was, trekking through the jungles of Taki no Kuni, swearing quite loudly about how annoying the insect life was and swatting at his own neck from time to time. He plowed through marshes, and knolls alike. He forged through vines, and sometimes had to fight them back. Yup, jungle was alive folks. But he was thankful none of the native animals here decided to bother him; yet, that was.
"God dammit, I had to choose to come here during the summer," he growled and looked up towards the canopy above, "Even with it being midday though, it's still dark as fuck in the thicket of these trees."

Tired yellow eyes stared back at her from the mirror, dark circles the color of bruises surrounding them. Despite her best tinctures and teas, insomnia had struck the woman once again and refused to release her from its insidious grasp to the comfort of a dreamless sleep. Fingers ghosted lightly over the discolored skin, a soft sigh falling from her lips. She hadn't slept in over a week, and it was truly beginning to take its toll. Jittery, as if she had had too much caffeine, with increasing paranoia as time passed, the woman was starting to seem like a real mess.
Thus why she had left her sanctuary in the Land of Honey to seek out the plants that grew in the rainforests and jungles of Taki no Kuni. Many were known for their medicinal properties, and were very difficult to find elsewhere. Once she found what she was looking for, she was determined to carefully uproot parts of the plants, safely store them, and take them home with her, where they would flourish in her greenhouse. The thought of filling the place with even more vibrant flora brought a soft smile to her ghostly pale face.
After another long moment, she stepped away from the mirror, silently moving through the room she had rented at a local inn. The drain on her limited finances was unwelcome, but for a trip like this, she needed a place more secure than a tent pitched in the forest to return to at night.
The woman carefully replaced a jar of ground tea leaves and a small bottle of rose water into their respective slots in the compartmented metal case she used to carry her poisons and herbal remedies, snapping the case shut and sliding it into a canvas bag that she placed over her shoulder. One never knew when they would need such things; therefore it was prudent to carry them with her always.
The woman was dressed rather conservatively in a snug white top and long black shorts. She wore a cloak over the top to conceal the supplies she carried and that had a hood with which to hide her face if it proved necessary. Satisfied that she was prepared, her encyclopedia of flora also tucked into her bag, she headed out into the untamed jungle in search of muira puama, a small tree whose roots and bark could be used in tea and infusions to calm the nerves, and passion flower, which was often used as a sedative. Both grew in these rainforest-like areas, so she didn't believe her quest would prove all that difficult.
As she pushed her way through the thick brush, she heard a voice, and froze. Who else would be out here? Someone who had followed her, perhaps? An intense unease settled over her. In the lush green forests, her stark white hair stood out like a beacon. Hurriedly pulling the hood over her head, she retreated into the thick of the vines and small trees, trying to catch a glimpse of the voice's source.

He let out a rather irritated sigh. It was definitely a little more than annoying what with all the bugs and plants trying to eat him. However after giving it a little thought the swordsman came to a conclusion. He was a dumbass. Why was he traveling on the ground when he could leap through the tree branches with so much more ease? Besides the pedlar he was looking for lived in a tree house, no? It was the perfect plan. Only when he looked up at the tree branches he felt almost a sense of foreboding. All of those branches up there were like a labyrinth network just on their own. Nature sure had its way of saying 'Fuck you' when it wanted to.
He shook his head. It was downright impossible for him to pass that way, and so unfortunately he'd have to take the low road. Damn. So now he drew his rapier, Samekiba, from its scabbard and held it at his side as he looked down to the surprisingly reflective marsh waters below him. He saw a man looking back up at him. Or rather downwards at him as the case may be for his reflection. The man looked to be well trained, but something was off. He looked as though he were lost. Not here persay, but rather lost in life. He looked tired.
He shook his head again. Damn jungle playing tricks with his mind. At this point he continued moving onwards, being lost in his own thoughts and the sounds of the jungle preventing him from detecting the presence of the nearby observer.

Tera was intimately familiar with the pages of the bingo book simply due to the fact that, not only was she listed within it, but it contained information on those most likely to pursue her, be it for fame, profit, their country, or whatever other ridiculous notions caused a man to want to kill. Thus, the face of the other person within the jungle, when she managed to catch a glimpse of it, proved to be familiar. His identity could not quite be placed, but she knew he was dangerous; whether he was as dangerous as the woman whose yellow eyes bored into him with unrivaled intensity was a mystery. She did not wish to find out.
His presence in the same patch of forest disturbed her immensely. He did not seem to be pursuing a target of any sort, or even searching for another person. Indeed, he seemed entirely unaware of her existence. How odd, to not be on alert for possible hunters, so ensconced in his thoughts that the presence of an immensely powerful shinobi did not even register on his radar. Intriguing as well.
The cloaked woman was tempted to approach him despite every instinct screaming at her about the possible danger. Really, she should ignore him and continue searching for her plants. Perhaps she would not directly approach him, merely... get his attention.
She snapped a thick stick on the ground with the application of a little chakra to the ball of her foot, a large cracking sound reverberating through the area. If that didn't get his attention, he was either truly oblivious, or deaf.

The hair on the back of Saverio's neck stood on end as the resounding crack reverberated throughout the thicket. It was definitely the crack of wood, a branch most likely, but no animal for force of nature would cause a large branch like how that one sounded to break in a place like this. That had to of been the act of someone else. Someone human. Someone most definitely unintelligent. /Behind me?/
The crack had definitely sounded like it was in decently close proximity to him, especially with how loud it had been. Which only made him wonder, was someone perhaps searching for firewood and knew not of his presence, or was someone perhaps just some fat ass fool that knew not what they were doing? Of course there was also the possibility that they knew well he was there and was trying to get his attention, but he highly doubted that was the case here.
Great now he was face with a dilemma.
He didn't know whether or not he wanted to pursue this crack. Would he go check it out, or would he go against his better judgement and keep moving forward? Choices were certainly a pain in the a- Fuck it. He turned so that his left shoulder was facing the direction he was certain the crack had come from. His grey eyes scanned the surrounding area, but it was simply too dark for him to really see much of anything. So instead he listened, and waited.

He was not foolish, able to tell that anyone or anything that could snap a branch of that size was not likely to be anyone he wanted to deal with. At least, she assumed that to be the reasoning behind his action - or, rather, lack of it.
Silently, the woman prowled closer, circling through the fauna until she was directly behind him. "Surprise," she purred into his ear, an amused smirk on her face. Her body was tensed for the inevitable violent response, but she didn't move away from him. No, he had caught her attention, and he wouldn't be allowed to escape her grasp until he no longer interested her.

His heightened sense of hearing thanks to the art of silent killing, was able to pick up the feint shifts of movement among the flora. His eyes followed it to a degree without moving his head until he was certain that whatever this thing was was right behind him. His body was tense, ready to strike.
"Surprise." A female voice came from the darkness directly behind him. He chose not to move his body, not yet, but rather his eyes darted to his left side as if trying to see around his skull. "What is a woman doing traveling all alone here?" his voice came out more of a growl than anything else. His fingers of his left hand curled slightly but he made no further actions. Instead he chose to listen to her, and study her movements based of the sounds her clothing made as she moved. He wouldn't strike, not yet; not when he didn't know whether or not this one would actually be a threat. Lest he risk re-fracturing his recently healed arm.

He was calmer than she had thought he would be. Curious. She saw no reason to tell him anything but the truth; being in the jungle to find a rare plant for medicine wasn't anything suspicious. "I deal in herbal medicines; I need a plant that only grows in the jungles of Taki," she answered simply. "I was not expecting to find another person first..."
From her pleasant tone and her stance, he shouldn't see her as all that much of an immediate threat. Normally, she wished to appear a very dangerous woman, to discourage others from approaching her or trying anything stupid. However, in the presence of someone she knew she'd seen within the pages of a bingo book, that act might get her in trouble. Tera was far from the strongest woman in the world; antagonizing someone else of notable strength could very well get her killed. She was no fool.

"I see," he replied to her words, and turned so he could view her. Although it wasn't much considering that she had a cloak on over her head masking her face in darker shadow than what was already in this fucking jungle. "How the hell you expect to move well in an area that loves grabbing your clothes with that thing on is beyond me," he then turned and started walking again, "But it's also not like it matters to me either way anyway." As he reached the edge of the small water logged clearing and propped his foot up on a large root mid-way through climbing over it, he turned his head to look over his shoulder.
"It's best you forget I was ever here. I can tell by the way you carry yourself and how you're cautious as to not allow me to hear your approach that you too are skilled in more than what you have told me. I'd rather not have to dispose of a liability right now," with that he climbed over the large root and continued to press on into the thicket. Whether or not the woman chose to follow him was entirely up to her, but for him, he preferred to be alone.
Just having been near that woman for as long as he had been had made him rather flustered. While he hadn't shown it in front of her, his face was now beet red. He couldn't help but let his mind wander, conceiving of the possibilities of what kind of enchantress could be hiding under the hood. God dammit, he needed to get his head into the game. He needed to focus otherwise he would.... get...... lo.... SON OF A FUCK BISCUIT!
Yup. That was definitely the same tree he had slashed two hours ago.

"On occasion, privacy is more important than comfort or even ease of movement," she replied simply, shrugging beneath the cloak. It wasn't as bad as he thought it was, although that could simply be due to her experience in traversing this type of terrain.
Her lips quirked when he spoke his warning. "You seem very sure that you are capable of... 'disposing' of me. You know not to whom you speak." She didn't fear him. Fear was a petty human emotion that she had experienced far too much of to continue to allow it to be even a consideration in her mind.
Tera let him depart and continued on her search for the plants. After nearly an hour of scouring the jungle, she found a patch of the passion flowers and set to carefully harvesting them. With a few hand seals, she gathered enough water to wet one of the large cloths she had brought and wrapped several intact specimens up so she'd be able to replant them upon returning home. About half of the rest of the patch was pulled apart and sorted into various containers depending on how useful they would be. She left the rest where they were; it would be highly irresponsible to completely destroy the plants.
Hearing a nearby noise, she packed up the flowers and went to investigate; she figured it was likely the man she had encountered before, but in case it wasn't, she needed to know. Indeed, it was he.
Popping up beside him, she spoke. "You look lost."

"You look lost." It wasn't bad enough that he was already mentally flipping a shit at the realization that he was indeed lost, but now this bitch had found him again. Just great. Oh god be could feel the blush coming back to his cheeks, and he looked away from her as he placed his hands on his hips. He projected his voice loud and proud, although quite unnecessary, "I'M NOT LOST I JUST DON'T KNOW WHERE I'M GOING," yup that was totally it. He was totally just wandering around the jungle for no fucking reason at all.
Yup.
That was when he made a sharp turn to look of into the eastward direction of the forest, away from the woman. His ears had picked up a sound that didn't sound at all like it was natural. Something was slithering through the foliage. Some sort of animal? No. That wasn't it, but just what was it. "Hey do you hear that?"

Her lips quirked in amusement. What a silly little man he was. Her sharp eyes caught the reddening of his cheeks; he was embarrassed, perhaps because he had lost his way, perhaps for other reasons. It was no real concern of hers. "I was going to offer you my assistance, but since you're not lost I don't suppose you'll be needing it."
She hadn't heard the sound until the man had pointed it out. Then it was evident, the slithering of some creature or thing through the jungle. It sounded like this thing, whatever it was, was heading toward them. "I don't like the sound of that... Keep your guard up."
