After the Fourth Great Shinobi World War ended, the world was experiencing a time of peace. The villages for once were able to live in relative harmony with one another as they rebuilt, and for once, all seemed to be well. The kage were able to live peaceful lives and soon began retiring, passing on the baton to the next generations. That is until an unknown virus infects the northern coast. The first to fall is the once powerful Raikage, Ay. While many thought this virus was a simple mutation of what may have well been the flu, no one would ever think of the destruction it would cause. Especially when it infected a certain Uzumaki Naruto.
With his death came the malice; with the malice came the destruction; with the destruction came the shinobi' revolt; and with the revolt came the sacrifices. The Bijuu became filled with malice that they sought to destroy the world. Shinobi sought a way to fight them and once again capture each of the Bijuu. Time passed, and a plan was devised. The Jinchuuriki would be sacrificed for the greater good of the world, and with the deaths of nine individuals, an uneasy peace began.
As time continued, the villages began to truly restructure. In a peace that would last 80 years after the downfall of the Bijuu, the world would see the creation of a great many things. Technology was beginning to take root and before long the blossoms that grew from the tree of the advanced mind would bear fruit. A many great things came to be. A railroad between the vast many nations. Mechanical limbs to replace lost ones. Radios that could reach between villages. Everything seemed to be becoming less reliant on the shinobi. Only the need for them never truly vanished. As with the growth of time, also continued the growth of malice.
Standing at 5'3'', Rin is just short of unimpressive. However, she has mass. Rather than being described as small, a better term for Rin is compact. She has no fat on her body, lined with wiry muscles that give her the strength and agility she needs to best her opponents on the battlefield. These muscles coat a lean skeletal frame that make her seem frail from afar. She is cloaked in fair, smooth skin, sun-kissed where it lay bare along her face, arms, and legs. On close inspection you can see her arms riddled with small white scars, a testament to years fighting close-range with her crystal techniques to perfection. Many scars like this, and some even larger, litter her hide, but as she is a bit vain about her appearance, Rin cares for her skin to ensure nothing scars too badly. Her eyes are an icy crystal blue, while her short hair is a platinum as white as snow with the slightest of curl to it.
Rin favors greens, blacks, blues, and whites, often dressing extravagantly when off-duty, She is never, never seen without a black ribbon tied around her head like a headband, tied off in a frill-edged bow. Her clothes are generally breathable and form-fitting, with sleeves that go to the elbows and skirts that stop several inches above the knee. Rin wears heavy boots with flexible soles that reach just below her knee, adding that much extra weight to help keep her grounded while against an opponent. Around her neck, the true reason she has her name, Rin wears a heart pendant two inches across at its widest. This pendant is made of her father's crystal, a deep, dark sanquine red that attests to the density of the material it was made from. It was made by her father as an engagement gift to her mother; he hadn't been a rich man, but he showed excellent craftsmanship and there were many other ways to declare love. She keeps this pendant on a titanium chain around her neck and never removes it, earning her her name.
When on-duty, Rin dons her Jōnin vest, wearing clothes that will not catch and cannot be grabbed by an enemy. A bit drab for her tastes, really, but a kunoichi, when fighting, was to worry about utility. Aesthetics came second. Sacrificing quality over such a thing is pointless to Rin. She keeps her normal kunai and hip holsters on her left leg and right hip respectively, for unlike most, Rin is left-handed. She wears a utility belt that houses a lot of small things, such as smokebombs, two scrolls, soldier pills, and other odds and ends. The most noticeable feature of this belt, however, is that it has many holders for weapons, none of which she seems to possess.
Personality
Rin comes across as sweet—a lover, not a fighter. She is known to have quite the passion for glass figurines, delicately crafting figurines of her own out of her sanguine crystals. When she was young, she gifted the animal figurines—often pegasi—to friends and family. As she aged, she saw profit (a girl needs pocket change now and then, right?) in selling these crystal creatures and sells them through her parents' thrift shop.
On the note of being a lover, Rin has never been in love, never even had a crush. Others have had crushes on her, but the girl is rather oblivious to those feelings, focusing too much on her desires and whims than looking for love. Often Rin will act on a whim and not think of the consequences of her actions until much later after the fact. At times this would get her in trouble, and she often feels devastated to learn what she did was bad. She's a rather fickle individual.
On the battlefield, Rin turns a 180, becoming fierce as a wolverine, and despite her small size, takes opponents down much larger than herself. It is rare for her to go ranged, instead using her crystal jutsus to make weapons for close-range fighting, using all of her strength to crush her foes. When she does go ranged, she combines the fire element with her crystals, heating and softening the material and manipulating the minerals like earth within to physically attack the opponent like a puppet. If she's forced to go ranged, that means it's wise to stay away from the opponent.
History
Rin's story begins not with her birth, but with her parents. Rin's mother was the owner of a trinket shop, selling small valuables to the citizens of Kumogakure. When she was seventeen, her mother, Rosa, had an eye on a young shinobi by the name of Kenta. Kenta had been a Shōton user and had quite the fancy to Rosa as well. He would often come to the girl and bring her trinkets to place in her shop windows. Rosa would always marvel at the pink crystals he brought to her, and it wasn't until she was eighteen that she was gifted a heart-shaped necklace that she learned he made them himself, creating it before her eyes.
The couple wed the late fall afterward, and became pregnant two years later. At that time Kenta had been having troubles with the Raikage. Their ideals clashed. Unable to deal with the stress of working for a man he could not agree with, Kenta decided to flee the village. It was a hard decision, but he felt he had no choice. The man was unable to leave his wife behind, and there were many fights that would often end in tears on both ends, but in the end, she agreed to flee with him. Taking the necessities from their home, the small family fled.
The husband had possessed a “pet” of sorts, as Rosa would call it. A young black cub named Rasta. The family of three fled the village and soon after the country. The wife's pregnancy was still in its first trimester, meaning it would be easier to travel. Because he was avoiding detection as best he could, Kenta took to traveling by foot instead of using the railways which were governed by shinobi. Yes, it was more dangerous, but it was also the best way to escape Kaminari no Kuni.
It was a week into the escape that Kenta had picked up on being pursued, no doubt labeled as a traitor. Well, they weren't exactly wrong. Fearing for his wife and his unborn child's safety, he told her to continue onward and gave her all the money he possessed, what little of it there was. He told her he would lead the pursuit away and meet up with her again later. There were more tears; although Rosa agreed, they both knew he wasn't coming back. They would only be after Kenta.
Rosa continued on with the black cub in-tow, barely surviving one day to the next without her husband to guide her. The small lion cub proved useful, capturing small prey for both of them to eat. Rosa would never admit it out loud, but over time she'd come to enjoy the taste of roasted mouse.
After some time, she had crossed over into the border of Hi no Kuni, her husband having guided her into Yu no Kuni before breaking away. Despite the earliness, the pregnancy was taking a toll on her fatigued body and she fell to rest on the base of a tree. Rosa didn't remember how it happened, but when she opened her eyes again she saw the blue-eyed lion cub running towards her out of the foliage, three shinobi close behind. Rosa was too tired to even show fear, and passed out asleep upon seeing the shinobi arrive.
Rosa didn't awake again until she was inside the village of Konohagakure, laying in a hospital bed, the small cub curled asleep at her feet, black fur a stark contrast to the white sheets. The nurses that came through had scratches and bitemarks on they hands, and Rosa had a pretty good idea of how they had gotten there.
Once back on her feet, Rosa decided to make her life in Konoha. Without her husband, she didn't want to return to Kumagakure. Founding a collectable shop as she had owned back in Kumo, Rosa eased through her pregnancy and gave birth to a single child, a little girl. While the girl took after her mother in looks, by the time little Rin was a toddler Rosa discovered she had inherited the abilities of her father as well. Kenta lived within this little girl.
As Shōton was not a release native to Konohagakure, there were no teachers for Rin. Rosa did what she could for the girl, telling her everything she knew from her experiences with Kenta, but Rosa was not a shinobi and could only teach the girl so much alongside her studies at the academy.
Rin was a good learner, however, with an imagination big enough to fill in all of the blanks. She would often practice her crystals by copying her mother's trinkets, crafting small animals and items in an attempt to mirror the ceramic and glass figurines that lined the shelves in her mother's shop.
Rasta, the lion cub, was passed on to Rin. The cub never left Rin's side and joined her at the academy. While he appeared to mature over the years, he barely grew larger than a housecat. It wasn't until Rin became a genin and dropped a soldier pill when their sensei was explaining the properties that she learned Rasta's true abilities. The lion had saw the pill as a toy and pounced it, eating it. The entire group was in a mix of both awe and fear when the tiny feline grew to a rather threatening and massive size. And, as he had always done, Rasta immediately reared up at Rin thinking he'd done something good, heavy weight bringing her to the ground and giant nose rubbing her cheek. Rasta was Rasta, big or small.
Despite her superiors pushing Rin to go ranged as a crystal user, Rin had a passion with fighting with her hands. She always enjoyed being hands-on with whatever she did, and that included fighting. So, instead of attacking ranged with her crystals, Rin decided to make better use of her crafting skill and made weapons instead to compliment her fighting style.
Despite her strength, Rin was small. Physical taijutsu was a difficult choice, because small fists didn't produce a wide enough impact. No, Rin preferred to use weapons. And Rin loved weapons. If she could hold it in her hands, she wanted to use it. Her aim was terrible though, so she would stick to melee, even making weapons for teammates to use.
Through the years she would perfect this style, and with the help of Rasta, her team passed through the Chūnin exams, later on earning her the position of Jōnin. Rin is good at tracking people thanks to Rasta, however she takes pride in her position as a close-range fighter and is always ready to fight on the front lines as a shinobi of the Leaf.

Special Abilities:
i. Weapons Proficiency: While no master in any single weapon, Rin is capable of properly using most melee-style weapons. From swords to pikes to tonfa and hammers, Rin can both attack and defend with any weapon she holds. Her aim is poor after mid-range, however, so any thrown weapon is useless and discarded.
ii. Chakra-Enhanced Strength: Pumping her chakra into her muscles, Rin can increase her strength. This makes her blows hit harder, her legs jump farther, and her feet run faster. She often uses this in combination with crystal gauntlets to really crack the earth. This used to easily shatter the crystal, however with training, she applied the same concept to the crystal entrapping her hands when she pumps chakra into her muscles. However, the crystal can withstand few blows under that strength before it shatters, damaging her hands.
iii. Shōton User: Rin was born with a kekkei genkai known as Shōton, or Crystal Release. She is capable of conjuring crystals whenever she pleases. Because Rin has a lower chakra pool than average, and because she doesn't prefer large and showy attacks, Rin uses precision and creates objects out of her crystals that have utility use. The objects Rin can make range anywhere between a four-inch unicorn figurine to an eight-foot bladed polearm as sharp as any steel. She is often a godsend to teammates, who can utilize any weapons she makes. When possible, after the battle, Rin collects the crystal items she created to take home with her. If they aren't broken, then there's no reason to not reuse them. As such, the whole weapons Rin does have are all varying shades of pink. The darker the pink, the more dense the crystal, the better quality of the weapon.
iv. Chakra Control: Rin has excellent chakra control. As she doesn't use a whole lot of ninjutsu, she pours that precision into her crystal jutsus, always altering and perfecting new and exciting creations. She knows exactly how much chakra to put into each attack and never wastes any energy putting too much effort into a single blow she knows won't finish the enemy off. Those occaisions Rin does use her ninjutu, she knows precisely how much chakra to put into the jutsu to recieve at least close to the desired effect.
